Howsit guys,
I hope I can get some advice. I have a 1.9tdi and it has been close to a year and not one auto electrician can help me with the electrical problem. All electronics inside the car has stopped working, appart from the sunroof and radio. I was told it's the steering column module and replaced it which cost me R4.5k. all relays were checked and ok. The diagnostics picked up a fault with the CAN bus and that's why I was told to replace the steering module. Please Any advice at all would help?????

What do you mean by all electronics? The gauge cluster, electric windows etc etc. For the components you are about to mention have you checked if they have power at their respective fuses?

Where are you based?

Good afternoon. In similar situations, we've come across instances where the steering column being replaced usually pertained to loss of power steering. Further investigation usually led to underlying problems, where the proximate cause of it all usually led to the vehicle being previously damaged in an accident or bad road conditions. This could range from going over a pothole, too fast over a speed bump or head-on collision. The wiring being done haphazardly after an accident, or simply becoming loose or dislodged causing a short or open circuit is often the culprit. You'd need a seasoned auto electrician to use a good-old multi-meter and trace the fault back to it's root. Visit one of our site by clicking here: JHB Auto Electrical : to book a technician, who will perform the required inspection and repair at your premises. Hope that helps. JHB Auto Electrical.

A friend of mine had this happen to her polo, the car was never in an accident, I assume it was a pothole but the entire gauge cluster would stop working with the power steering and then it would light up like a Christmas tree and then die again and rinse and repeat, nobody could fix it so she ended up trading it in.
