2006/2007 Premiership Footy Thread

for once chelsea didnt get 89th minute winner

it had to happen sooner or later, they have been riding the lucky wagon for long enough

More agreement here.

Looks like 300 million hasn't bought them a squad that can last the whole season in all the competitions.

Shame.

The Chelsea manager was furious that Mark Halsey, the referee, turned down two penalty claims for his side and then went onto state that there is one rule for Manchester United and another for his side. Mourinho insisted that United had escaped defeat against Middlesbrough when Peter Walton ignored strong calls for a penalty when South Korean striker Lee Dong-Gook was felled by John O'Shea in the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford. He also said United got away with another incident in midweek when Gabriel Heinze appeared to bring down Luton Shelton in the 2-0 victory over Sheffield United.

Had these decisions gone Chelsea's way, Mourinho's side could potentially be level with United instead of being three points adrift. "One rule is not to allow penalties against Manchester United and another says none in favour of Chelsea," Mourinho said. "You are speaking about big decisions which affect points.

"We can speak about the game we saw or the game that could be if Chelsea is winning 1-0 (had they been awarded an early penalty at St James' Park)."
Referring to the Lee Dong-Gook incident at Old Trafford, he added: "They cannot lose. Yesterday it was a penalty in the last minute and they are forbidden to lose."
I can't speak about Chelsea's Newcastle game because I didn't watch it but on the second quote Jose is right, that was a stone-cold penalty, ManU were done a favour by the Ref...sickening! :(

Pathetic. As ever.

None of those were penalties. None at all.

Either way, you take your luck and go from there.

Moaninho cannot handle the fact that 300 million has bought him a team that conks out just short of the finish line.

I'm now sure that if Jose and Chelsea don't win either the league or CL then he'll be on his way out. Sad as I think he is a good character for the English game.

He is the worst thing that has happened to English footy for a long time.

Good riddance.

moan moan moan...penalties decisions are always controversial. Jose's just finding excuses now because he couldn't capitilise on the slip-up. It was the result that was important at the end not the 'could be' penalties.

LOL!!! better toon than that other blue piece of junk team.

There's a closet Chelsea supporter lurking around...careful.

Cors I do. Toon Army mate!! Always have. :D

A minutes silence for the long term and inconsolable suffering inflicted on Datura by his "football" team Newcastle.

*Pause*

Another big day of footy today...

Only 4 games left...United and Chelsea both in early action.

United to win, Chelsea to draw...

johnson injured, bolton have a reserve team playing so if Chelsea drew, it'll be a good result.

In other news...
Cristiano Ronaldo thinks Jose Mourinho "doesn't know how to admit his own failures" after the Chelsea manager's controversial comments about penalties.

Mourinho claimed last Sunday that "new laws" on spot-kicks applied to Manchester United but not to Chelsea, after his side were denied a penalty in the goalless draw at Newcastle.

A day earlier United had been fortunate not to concede a late penalty against Middlesbrough at Old Trafford.

"We all know how he is," Ronaldo was reported to have told Portuguese TV. "He always has to say something when he is not happy."

The PFA Player and Young Player of the Year added: "Jose Mourinho doesn't know how to admit his own failures."

Mourinho responded by reportedly telling RTP TV that Ronaldo will "never reach the level that he wants to reach" unless he accepts "facts".

He is reported to have said: "A player who wants to be the best one of the world, and he already may be, should have the uprightness and the sufficient maturity to verify that against facts there are not arguments.

"If he says that it is a lie that Manchester United have conceded some penalties this season which have not been awarded against them, he is lying.

"And if he lies he will never reach the level that he wants to reach."

United assistant manager Carlos Queiroz was also quoted as saying: "Mourinho has his own style, he always tries to divert everyone's attention to the points which are convenient for him.

"These are his tactics and that's the way he is."

and then ...

Sir Alex Ferguson has accused Jose Mourinho of lacking respect for anyone but himself.

The Manchester United boss is fuming with his Chelsea counterpart over an apparent attempt to put referees under pressure to give penalties against the Red Devils during the latter stages of the title run-in.

Ferguson is particularly angry about Mourinho's suggestion the rules are being manipulated to aid United's championship quest, with the Blues coach citing a number of recent decisions that have gone against his team.

And the Scot noted with disdain that Mourinho got round a UEFA touchline ban by hiding in a laundry basket in order to administer his team talks as normal.

"The story about him jumping into the laundry basket to do his team talk just shows he snubbed his nose up at UEFA," Ferguson told MUTV.

"It tells you that he doesn't respect anyone but himself. That is dangerous."

Given Mourinho's weekend comments about different rules now being in operation, followed up by his claim fellow countryman Cristiano Ronaldo is 'a liar' for questioning the motives behind the original attack, Ferguson cannot understand why the Football Association have not stepped into the row.

While he accepts penalty claims for both Sheffield United and Middlesbrough recently could easily have gone against his team, Ferguson believes Mourinho's reaction has gone much too far.

"It seems to me a couple of decisions have gone for us," said Ferguson.

"I know John O'Shea got the ball against Middlesbrough but a lot of referees would have given it.

"But the suggestion we have changed the regulations is bringing a suspicion into the game that we are corrupting it. That is a hell of a statement and it is wrong.

"Once you bring that kind of suspicion into our game, which is the most honest in the world, then we are finished. Our principles will have gone

"It is a calculated attempt to put pressure on referees to give penalty kicks against us.

"The FA should have done something about that. They have refused to do it."
