Is buying a 2006 BMW Z4 2.0L Roadster a stupid idea? If I could get it at a great price wouldn't it be worth it, even though it's a ridiculous car? I have come across one at a lower than usual price at a dealership with just over 140000kms on the clock.

I'm a mid-20s bachelor, I drive a solid but boring Polo and I was looking for an E91 BMW 320i at a low price.

Who had one of these Z4's? What could possibly go wrong with it and how much would fixing said common problems cost?

When test driving the car, what should one look out for?

I'd stay away personally. Sports cars with that kind of mileage (especially from the likes of BMW) just sound like a hole to throw money in.

Do a Google search for BMW E90 320i engine issues.

Should cure you right away.

Let me get this straight, you want to consider a sports car that is almost 10 years old?

GOOD LUCK!

Do a Google search for <any car> engine issues. You'll likely come across a similar amount of complaints...

IIRC some guys on a UK BMW forum wanted to start a class action against BMW due to problems with the x20i engine.

Nothing wrong with a Z4.

Obviously not a family car but you'll have fun in it :) Congrats.

Do it man.... later on in life you wont be able to and you will regret it.

I'm going to look at the car this morning. When I saw yesterday that there is something like a Z4 out there at a low price I thought, well why the hell not. It's a nice looking car. The Z4's interior is amazing. I actually, based on photos, prefer it over the new 3-series interior, which already is appealing. But I also thought about all the potential problems I could have. But these are not guaranteed. If the car already has issues I'll walk away of course. I will even have a mechanic I trust inspect it thoroughly.

If you have a mechanic then that is even better. Enjoy the car and don't put too much money into it
