2006 FA Cup thread

disappointed.. :(

At least we got the league..makes me feel better.

It was a really awful game as well. At least penalties would have been an exciting way to end it after we had to sit through 120 mins of that :(

Oh well. League Champions.

Roll on 2007/2008.

Thought it was ok...2nd half was decent. Both team had chances. But Drogba - Lampard combination for the goal made me sick.

awful game though, fell asleep in the 80th minute.. usually enjoy watching united but they were entertaining as liverpool yesterday

Ya, you can't deny them that.

entertaining it was not.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson felt fatigue played a major part in his side's 1-0 FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea at Wembley.

Didier Drogba snatched the win four minutes from the end of extra time in a forgettable encounter.

'There was nothing between the two teams - neither deserved to lose or win and it is disappointing we have lost,' he said.

'The pitch was slow and that didn't help but from our point so view I think we were tired in two or three positions, which didn't help us.

'What the players have been through in the last few months (their Premiership title victory) has been exceptional and credit for that but we couldn't cross the line today.

'Maybe the number of games they play eventually gets to them.'

Yeah it was obvious that with such a "small" squad Manure weren't going to win more than one trophy.

I tuned in at the start of the second half and when I saw how slow the pitch was and how lackluster Manure were there was only going to be one winner and that was Chelsea :p .

Pity it was Drogba  but it was a laugh that Manure conceded so late in the game. Bit of their own medicine :D

Chelsea are know officially the new "last gasp" kings ;)

Ya, both sides looked flat and tired. The difference is that that is how Chlelsea normally play. If Giggs had put that chance away, things would be very different right now.

Still, given the squad United had, the limited resources and the injuries, to come to within 2 wins of another Treble is pretty special.

That 7-1 over Roma will live long in the memory.

rubbish hj

neither side should be tired when did they last play man

pullllzzzz it was a defensive crap game and im glad united lost

they are an attacking team and came out defending

im so disappointed in them, they did not even try and win, they play slow

shocking man

Ya I know they have not played for a week. But they were tired from the season. Don't forget Chelsea won the three-handled cup. Both teams went nearly all the way in the league, got to the semis of the CL and the final of the Fa Cup. That is a lot of games man!

I was really disappointed that they did not go all out attack though. Rooney was alone up front for most of the game. In the 1st half United played 6 midfielders and no strikers really. Was a pity indeed. Cos Chelsea were there for the taking.

united would have whipped chelsea if they werent so scared to loose

and what happened they freakin lost

sometimes sir alex makes me so freakin mad

from the kick off you go at them, we know their defense is shaky

fa cup final should have been united's if they just played their natural game

pffffft

This is true. Despite all Sir Alex's success, sometimes, for me, he still makes crazy decisions. Having Fletcher anywhere near the United team is one of them.

Was Evra injured? Because it signaled Manure’s intent if Heinze was picked ahead of Evra.

I saw him on the bench. I don't know.

Problem is, all our defenders were pure defenders who cannot attack. Wes brown tried to play Gary Neville's role on the right wing and was terrible there. Similarly Heinze cannot cross at all either. Which meant our wingers were our only source of attack. And it is easy to man-mark someone out of the game if you know where they are going to be all the time.

Starting with Smith instead of Fletcher, would have helped a bit though.

even Saha ahead of Fletcher wouldve been a better move.. is he injured?

Saha seems almost permanently injured. We need some new players in the summer, that is for sure.

The youth is just not going to cut it. Not yet anyway.
