I've got a friend that's considering getting a yaris second hand. She asked me if I could help her research if there are any major factory faults or other issues she should be aware of.

So guys help? :o

my brothers GF has one from around that time, i know there was a recall she had to go in to have something on the seat belt replaced.

other than that she hasnt really had any issues.

wouldnt be my first choice of car but i suppose in that price range not bad, just hope it is the 1.3 and not 1.0?

Hey, this is a computer forum. Yaris is a car. You are in the wrong forum. Try the 4x4 forum. While is not exactly what you need, at least is closer. As the saying goes: Half of the knowledge is to know where to get the knowledge :D

actually you are in the wrong forum, this is not the troll the motoring sub-forum, this is the motoring and transportation sub-forum

Yaris is a nice car for the ladies.

@ OP , your friend should have minimal issues with the vehicle, aslong as the car has been serviced and maintained accordingly.

She can always take along a mechanic to test drive the vehicle and check for any issues.

I used 1 or 2 as rental cars a year or 2 ago. The only issue that i can recall is when the revs are low (or when the engine is about to stall) then the engine automatically increases the revs. Other than this I was impressed when driving one. Oh and get the 1.3.

This is a subforum of a computer forum. I only wanted to help the OP to get a fairly qualified answer instead of merely some user's opinion. But yeah, you are welcome to call me anything you wish, however keep in mind, only a pig understands pig language - if you prefer to see it that way :D

Some user's in these sub forums are fairly qualified to offer an informed opinion based on facts and/or experience.

I learned how to drive with a 2006 Yaris. And they are really good cars if taken care of. The only issue as said before are the auto rev increases. They seem to kick in at the wrong intervals. But you gets used to it and learn how to work around the issue.

Yup there is, she will be paying far more than the car is worth. However, if she can live with being overcharged for a car, then they appear to be fairly reliable, as most of the cars in that range these days.

If the motor gives trouble replace it with at least a 2L one.

My wife has the 2006 model. Car is fine. Clutch feels weird, but it is part of the car's design and most Toyotas in that period has very "soft" clutches. You know what I mean when you drive it. Otherwise, seatbelt recall was one of them, the other one was the petrol pedal getting stuck. The petrol pedal problem was the petrol pedal getting stuck under the car mat and revving like there is no tomorrow. This is easily resolved by moving the car mat (note, the toyota corollas of that period had the same problem). Otherwise, a great car. Light on petrol. Nippy. Big enough space for me in front (but the back is a different story).
