Before he scored from that free kick, the commentators were saying how he usually takes a few to get warmed up and that his conversion rate of free kicks isn't that high. :D
 
Fans make Liverpool takeover move

Liverpool supporters are to launch an ambitious plan to buy the football club from its current American owners.

US tycoons George Gillett and Tom Hicks recently finalised a £350m refinancing of the club which they bought in 2007.

But the Share Liverpool FC Group is to reveal plans for a buy-out of the club by 100,000 Reds fans around the world.

The model proposed will be a Barcelona style, "member-share" scheme, aimed at raising £500m to purchase the club from its US owners and build a new stadium.

Liverpool Are Standing Still
It's time to stop deluding ourselves, Liverpool are at the moment not in the same league as Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea and it's debatable whether they ever will be again.

In 1996/97 Arsenal and Liverpool finished level on points in the Premiership, Arsene Wenger had just taken over at Arsenal. Liverpool were a fine footballing team, they had a bigger stadium than Arsenal, a much larger European and worldwide fan base and still had the reputation for success to attract big-name players. Fast forward 10 years Arsenal are a fine footballing team with a much larger stadium than Liverpool, their worldwide fan base has grown exponentially and they have a reputation for good football and success that attracts some of the top young talent in the game. Liverpool has stood still while all around football has changed.

Liverpool has always seen Manchester United as their main rivals but hasn't competed with them where it matters for far too long and it matters not on the pitch but in the boardroom. 75,000 people to see United play Portsmouth, hundreds of millions spent on players, the highest turnover of any club in the world. In all this time the Liverpool board has not made the moves to try and close the gap on our main rivals and now we have been left a long way behind.

The Chelsea factor is a freak, one of the world's richest men turning up one day flashing his chequebook with a promise to turn the club into the most successful team in the land and it looked likely that the new era of Chelsea domination was here but Man Utd and Arsenal have found a way to fight back and compete, once again Liverpool have stood still and now find themselves like a hyena trying to feed off the scraps of a lion kill but knowing that they just aren't strong enough to take the lions on.

The American debacle over the past few months has further set back the cause however the sounds coming from stateside that Robert Kraft is considering a bid should be welcomed. His record for success speaks for itself he took an unfashionable New England Patriots side and built them into possibly the greatest team in Grid Iron history. They have a magnificent stadium and a marketing machine that has kicked into overdrive. They play a winning game and attract some of the best players in the sport. This kind of drive for success is exactly what Liverpool FC need.

Liverpool may be able to get a bit of a run together on the pitch, reach a cup final and the semis of the Champions league but it really doesn't matter a jot unless the right structure is put in place to allow them to compete with the big boys. I really hope that they can because they are the greatest club in the world but I feel they just can stop standing still.

actually they are wrong in a way because liverpool are no longer in the same league as united arsenal chelsea and everton

im sorry but everton are much better than liverpool and if you look at the team sheets it makes no sense

i guess this is where you see the difference between what moyes does with his limit squad and what benitez does with a star studded line up

A Miaow Moment From A Gooner
Quality free kick from Ronaldo last night, although I have to say 'best free kick ever!' is a little over the top. Roberto Carlos's bending rocket for Brazil was easily better.

Just out of interest, if Ronaldo FC win the league this season, will the Premier League be giving them more than one medal?

Things are rather bad at the moment. Must say many fans are making real a$$es out of themselves which is very dissapointing. Hopefully they'll follow Rafa out the door ;)

At least crises like these get rid of all the glory-hunting bandwagoners. Just watch you guys win the CL though, then they will all be back again. :p

Honestly, though, I don't think you guys will win anything this year...

Well I'm more worried about Rafa cultists :sick:. They are either blindly loyal or brain dead. Watching the game against Villa made me cringe. Singing 'get out of our club' to a guy thousands of miles away yet singing support for the guy in the duggout responsible for the mess on the pitch. You'd think they would realise that when Man Utd fans join you in singing 'in Rafa we trust' there just might be a problem.

But no the fact the team is playing like **** and sinking like a brick in the league they still wholeheartedly support Rafa and attack anybody who disagrees. Damn lemmings would follow him off a cliff :rolleyes:
 
im very glad to be honest because defoe does have alot of talent and its being wasted at spurs

benjani also to united for some odd reason, not sure why they would buy him

Liverpool as a city is in crisis in generaly - recession. They have had to change their focus to tourism with the beatles being the biggest attraction. I believe the city is being marketed very well and maybe this new industry will breathe life into the place... which will obviously have an effect on the team. It stands to reason.

What I attempted to say was that every industry suffers when the main income source disappears... it's like DCSA leaving East London... - the city will go from unknown to 'did it ever exist'?
 
Just an idea. Would it not be refreshing if the Premier League introduced a form of handicap deducting points at the beginning of the year so some teams would start in the negative.. The more you paid for your squad, the more points would be deducted at the start of the season. This way the poorer teams could compete more and it would make for a more competitive league instead of always seeing the usual suspects at the top. It would stop super wealthy businessmen (mostly from foreign countries) from buying a team and trying to "buy" the league.

If this were currently the case you could have Everton, Man C and Aston Villa at the top with MU and Arsenal. Chelsea would be some way down. This could force down the ridiculous prices paid for players and force the clubs to develop some young home grown talent.
