2007 320i for R150K.....worth it?

Hey guys!

I found a 2007 with 70000kms on the clock going for R150000. It was originally going for R180000, but I managed to talk the seller down :D . Do you guys think its worth it? What should I look out for to ensure nothing is wrong with it? What precautions can I take? Another worry is the motorplan. How expensive is it to maintain these cars? Thanks in advance for your input.
 
BMWs are a bitch without a motorplan.
1. Make sure the FSH is there and everything is up to scratch.
2. Take the car to AA for a roadworth test.
3. Make sure there are no outstanding fines on the car

You can extend the motorplan to 200'000km so you should consider doing that.

The car should be under motorplan still. If you have the registration number, you can get full motorplan service history from most BMW dealers. They will also provide you information on any specific comments on the car including accident comments if any. On my previous E90 325i, BMW quoted R14 420 to upgrade the motorplan by 20 000kms plus 1 year.

I think its worth while

Its actually suspicious for that price unless its the "320i start" which is the baseline version.

I have a 2007 323i M /A with 52000km and my currently retail value is 235 so 180 000 is too much based on that..

You can purchase additional motor plan, last I checked was for an additional 20 000km was just over R20 000 (but it depends on the condition of the car).

I would take a chance especially if its a manual version as your chances of something happening which is beyond the repair of your pocket is not that high.

Its a 320i Exclusive with sunroof, PDC, rain sensors, Xenon lights etc... The motorplan extention price is kinda high huh. Is it SUCH a train smash to pay for the services myself once its out of motorplan? Does anyone have an idea of roughly howw much a service would cost on this car? Or maybe I can take out a warranty plan with Hollard or Motorite or something?
 
You have 30 000km to drive the hell out of the car. If anything breaks, the motorplan will cover it. You can extend the motorplan right near the end at 95 000km if it proves to be a "problem car".

Call BMW and ask for the service costs at, say 115 000km and 130 000km or whatever the interval is. They will quote you now. Ask for quotes on a clutch, aircon and brake disc replacement.

Yes, a warantee from McCarthy might be worthwhile once it reaches 100 000km.

AFAIK these are cam chain engines, so no cambelt service to pay for.

It was in September 2009. I just rechecked on bmw site and this is the latest quotation. Looks like its indeed around R1/km.

GULP :eek:

I'm wondering though...is it possible to just get an extended warranty from BMW that will just cover the "bigger" possible faults/ failures and not services. Therefore I pay for the actual services myself, but have some kind of "cover" for if anything breaks. Does such an option exist?
