Neil McKenzie (c), Andrew Hall, Paul Harris, Gulam Bodi, Charl Langeveldt .
Mckenzie is 32 years old. You seriously want to bring him in now as captain of the international side? He played 41 tests for an average of 33 with only 2 100's.
Paul Harris to replace Smith ? as what ?
Dont see how the others you mention are even worth debate.

Nah, I just don't dig Granny Smith. I don't think he measures up all that well as a captain and he always seems to have some whinge about why he hasn't performed

Smith is good yes, but he is not a god, not by a long shot.
Cricket is a sport played with a bat and a ball. Bowlers try and get batsmen out, and batsmen try and score some runs. Sometime batsmen succeed and get a good score, sometime bowlers succeed and gets batsmen out for low scores.

So you want to replace Smith with McKenzie based on one score and his performance at local franchise cricket?
Smith has done more than McKenzie at a younger age at a higher level.
Mckenzie had his chances and failed.
Do you want Smith dropped cause he did not get the award, or does the reward automatically mean they are better players and captains?

Someone I'd swap with McKenzie is Prince. He's scoring rate is way too slow and it just looks like he doesn't know how to accelerate scoring regardless of the situation. On sat when Kallis went out, we needed someone that could come in and score a quickfire 30-50 at a rate of around 4/over. Prince comes in and plays as if he needed to save the game. I dont understand that...even Kallis knows when to score quick.

Fair point, but if Prince gets dropped (unlikely though) it will most probably be for someone like Duminy, although Mckenzie and Dippenaar (or even Van Wyk) should be in front of the queue.

i disagree. dude it was day 3 and SA had tons of runs. there was no need for a quick-fire 50 or to rush the runs. we were in a commanding position with tons of time left in the match. but i will agree with ur point on Ashwell.
I was under the impression that he was sort of playing himself (or trying to) into some form. Had no problem with what he and Amla did after Kallis went out.
Although their batting was boring as anything. I actually fell asleep watching them bat

I think it's the negative approach that he takes that annoys me. It seems to affect the team as well when he goes into that shell...SA do need him when we're in trouble to play out the difficult times but he doesn't seem to adapt to different situations in the game.
Hussey is an example what Prince should be like. Hussey can accelerate scoring when required and knows how to slow the game down. If Prince plays like that the he'll be a great batsmen.

Here's a comparison of the performance of a few of our captains in the modern game.
As you can see, Granny Smith is a consistent under-performer. Considering that Hansie was allegedly involved in match fixing, it makes the figures even more telling

Dont reckon Prince will ever be of that class.
In my opinion Duminy can become the type of player that you speak of.
Mmm Nothing to do with new ball and good bowling? You guys are just been petty and picking on possibly the best Captain this country have ever seen even beyond Hansie. But I am sure it is more a issue of who he is and his race! Maybe Ntini or Amla will make a better captain, NOT!

i don't think we're being petty, i think we are allowed to criticise where we see fit. be honest, when last has Graeme made any form of contribution with the bat? he is a captain and a batsman. that's 2 jobs and as harsh(yet fair) as it sounds, he should be doing both. ATM he is only doing one. but thank God for people like Kallis & Amla, who's great batting performances makes Graeme's poor batting displays go unnoticed.
You base all the plep on one game against poor NZ. Look at the 20/20 and Pakistan games and wake up a bit. Anybody could have a little slump. Maybe you should spend more time looking at cricket and looking at statistics. Recently everyone criticised Kallis and wrote him off, where are those F@@@ls now!
Well, he scored a 100 in the second test in Pakistan.
So short answer, a couple of weeks ago.
In fact, if I am not mistaken he averaged over 60 in Pakistan. And he is also 5th in the list of run scorers in Test Cricket in 2007.
