2009's best Linux releases

I think something's missing from the article. It doesn't have a heading for Ubuntu and it starts with
Karmic also included by default Ubuntu One, Canonical's file synchronising and collaborating

I wonder why Ubuntu isn't on that list..... Pity, really, it should have done better.

I haven't tried Mint yet myself, but I've only heard good things about it.
OpenSuse 11.2 is really awesome. I had some issues seeing my ethernet interface, but sorted that out with a static IP.
The new KDE 4.3 bundled with it is really awesome too. I compared this with 11.1 for kicks and wow.....

Edit... you're right.... and thus I missed that bit

PCLinuxOS (I'm using it now) is pretty good. It's like Mandriva, but uses apt instead of that horrid thing Mandriva's got.

Edit: And the fact that it's a rolling release distro means that I always have the latest (stable) software installed.

Sigh .... and still no Debian.

This "Its ready when its ready" is kinda getting tiring. Hell even FreeBSD 8 was on time and released Gnome 2.28, and is nothing but awesome. Look forward to March when Squeeze is Frozen.

Well done to the rest of the Linux Distros.

I've just been learning the ropes with kde4.3 on opensuse - and all I can say is "Awesome"

kde4.3 is also available for windows, and has had quite a warm reception.

Link to an offline/redist installer by any chance ?

Just to use up some 'excess' bandwidth, yesterday I downloaded Mandriva 2010 KDE Europe1 version and thought I would give it a test run.

My main problem was that once booted up I could not use the internet. I went through the motions using 'pppoe-setup' to set up the connection, used 'pppoe-start' to connect. 'Ifconfig' reported that I was connected (ppp0 was created), but I could not browse the internet. 'Browsing' the internet increased the data usage of the 'eth0' port, but that of 'ppp0' did not change from the initial 54bytes. One day when my router is no longer in 'bridge' mode, I'll give it another go.

Just my observations. ;)

Fedora 12 on the other hand did not suffer with this problem ;)

that's a view debian stalwarts do not hold. and its really only relevant if you use stable.
