Hi,

I looked a car earlier listed as a 2011 model.

I took the VIN down to check with CHM ... and I see it's registered on 30 December 2010. Surely this makes it a 2010 model? When it comes time for me to trade - they'll take it as a 2010 model?

I'm trying to see if the price matches the 2010 or 2011 models though

That's simple - if you're buying, it's a 2011 model, if you're selling, it's a 2010 model :(

Um.

Why would they be different models when buying/selling?
Surely both 2010 or both 2011?

Just my cynical but often justified view of the second-hand motor trade :)

lol ... ok, I get it :P

Yea - that's what they're trying to do to me ... but I think it's fraud

That's used car salesmen for you (not that new ones are much better, there's just less they can lie about).
It seems odd to me that it was registered so late in the year. Normally cars bought in Nov/Dec are given a temporary registration and then registered in the new year.

I think you are confusing year of model with year of manufacturing. Unless the model changed between December and January no one will pay you more if the vehicle was manufactured 30 days later or earlier then you think it was.

Nope.

AFAIK, when a dealer trades a car he gives you a certain value for a certain year - based on date of first registration. Ever seen one of those books?

In my case a 2010 with 40,000km on the clock is R240,000.00 and a 2011 with 40,000km on the clock about R270,000.00. I don't want to pay R270,000.00 ... trade in a few years and get R100,000.00 due to them saying it's a 2010
