Friday analysis - more to come from McLaren?

Everybody focused on learning the new sections of Silverstone’s very green Arena circuit on Friday, and doing the usual tyre comparisons. It didn’t help that the track temperature rose from 28 degrees Celsius to 43 by the afternoon, as the ambient temperature rose from 21 to 27. McLaren did not show quite the pace many had expected with their newly-upgraded MP4-25, though many rivals suspect the championship leaders are yet to play their hand. We take a team-by-team look at Friday progress…

As long as hamilton gives it a good go I'll be happy :)

Wow... what a race. Justice for Webber and a storming performance from Hamilton. The only reason many others couldn't be at the top (Alonso, Button) is because of an underpowered yellow machine driven by Kubica... great pace on low fuel, but poor after the start. Alonso would have challenged Hamilton IMO if not for the yellow train engine. That creates major issues in the race if you end up behind it.

Also, Alonso would have done much better if he hadn't gotten the ridiculous drive-through...

It was not ridiculous, he cut the corner and took the spot, the intelligent thing to do was let kubica back through and try over take properly. Instead they thought they would ride their luck and get away with it.

I loved how webber got out the car and basically said F you to the redbull team.

He is so clearly not the "blue eyed boy" of the team. But kudos to him. Mclaren pulled off a good damage limitation weekend, after their disasterous "blown diffuser" introduction.

Turns out Alonso and Ferrari were told three times by Charlie that they should rather let Kubica overtake... silly people. And why then complain that you got a penalty when you ignored the recommendation of the race director?

Ferrari was told three times that Fernando Alonso should have let Robert Kubica through during the British Grand Prix, according to the FIA race director Charlie Whiting.
