2010 world cup

Stop crying about the world cup now. It is here and the government has done extremely well getting ready, granted 4 years ago i could not see it happening and had my doubts but it is here and yes there is crime and blah blah but the world cup is here.

None of our concerns have really changed but this is something special and many have been proven wrong. Now is not the time for crying about it or hoping something bad happens. It is here and it will go off well. Leave the rest of the shyte and let's all get into the spirit of the world cup!!!!!!!!!

Fighting arguing is all good but GOD dammit we have pulled it off!!!!!!!!!! I guess if we can pull off a world cup maybe just maybe things will improve and get better, who knows but for now THE WORLD CUP IS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nothing else matters.

A good world cup would guarantee us an olympics next time we bid too.

We'll be the darlings of the world, the little african country with the big balls.

Don't say things might get better here. You will upset some people here. Marine1 might break into tears at the thought. He so badly wants the black run south africa to fail.
 
I am not a sports fan. The World Cup has its advantages and disadvantages. For one it is making a fair few South African's come together and be patriotic and I believe that it may put us into a first world country.
I see so much positivity coming out of it, even through the negatives.
I have two small kids and I am petrified of the potential human trafficking, so have taken every precaution I can to make sure they are safe.
I work in the travel industry and it has made my job exceptionally difficult.

I think this World Cup is going to do the country so much good, despite the negatives that go with the World Cup World wide and perhaps it will help us to realize what a wonderful Nation we have and what wonderful people we have here.
 
guys i thihnk this world cup is going to show the world how bad we are

how many tourists a day will die?
will be robbed?

its going to be like xmas for criminals

all these rich folk to kill and steal from

what about if they dont kill them but rape alot of them then what

i would never want a world cup in this country

such a nice tournament rape murder is not good for football

Yes john i did. i have admitted it. I really hope when the world cup starts that does not come true. I doubt it will with all the protection given to people who do not live here. I have come to realize 4 years later the government will ensure the tourists are safe.

Major blunder there i should have realize :D the tourists will be safe. It would look bad if tourists made up the 50 murders we have here daily.
 
Nah, fsuk it, I for one am not letting him get away with just saying he has egg on his face. Everything negative he says in future I will whip out this thread and rub it in his face! :D

You know we have 10 million tourists a year right ? This won't even be a drop in the ocean.


You know a tourist murder is an extremely rare thing to happen here. It doesn't even average 1 a year. You know if tourists suffered the same murder rate as the average poor South African there would be 3700 tourists murdered here a year (37 per 100 000 = 3700 per 10 million). That's just a nice example to show you how much violent crime discriminates against the people who live in poor areas tourists don't visit.


So to put it another way even your average poor south african has a very small chance to die of murder. Hundreds of less times less than cancer. But tourists ? They have thousands of times less of a chance even then. So sadly for marine1 and the rest other than a terrorist attack there's frankly an extremely slim chance of anything violent happening to a tourist in this country. If I thought there was I would never have encouraged people to come here.

Anyway, so i hope that helps you have a fresh perspective on crime.

Not only. But of the 18000 murders we have a year these days the gross majority of them do. 500 or so (according to the S.A.P) of those murders were related to house robberies, armed business robberies and hijackings etc (which I suggest probably happen more in rich areas.)

Anyway whatever the case our crime is too high. 1 murder is too high. But it's wrong to tell people it's not safe to visit this country given all the facts available.
