I'm contemplating getting myself one of these. The only thing is that the options in this year is past their maintenance period.

Would someone have an idea what service costs would look like on the Subaru Outback diesel? Any ballpark figure would nice. Costs would obviously depend on what needs to be replaced, but there should be a base figure? First service for the one I look at would be at around 110k km.

Who cares? Just take the plunge. Lovely cars they are.

Best bet is to phone a dealership and ask for a quote. Just make sure that in your shopping you inspect things like brake discs as that is around the mileage that the front ones will need replacing and that'll set you back a fair bit.

Thanks for the advice. I saw that powerbrake have replacement brake discs for around R3600 per set, which is not too much.

Any other high cost maintenance items?

At that mileage, ask yourself these questions:

  1. Does it use a belt or chain for it's cam shafts?
  2. How much for that service from a dealership?
  3. Does the water pump need to be replaced as well?
  4. Tyre life expectancy with regular use?

Dont bother to take to a dealership once out of warranty. Subaru's services are insanely expensive at a dealership. I see you are in Cape Town so unfortunately can't recommend a place, but if you can find a good independent place to service it shouldn't be an issue.

Generally though, the parts are certainly more expensive than your vw, kia, etc.

Thanks for the input. Will definitely keep it all in mind.
