2012 Hyundai i20 fuel efficiency

My mom's just purchased a new i20 1.4 auto. The car drives reasonably well although seems to be consuming a high amount of fuel. A check on the onboard computer shows a figure of 12l/100km. Daily driving is quite free flowing with about maybe 5km's of "Durban traffic".

I understand an automatic transmission would consume abit more fuel but did not expect it to be this drastic compared to my Golf 6 at 7l/100km at the worst.

Any feedback from other i20 owners?
 
Yoh that is high, I do short trip city driving in my 1.6 manual and it sits at around 6.5 - 7.2 depending how I drive

Remember as it wears in it should drop but IMO that is too high

Is that still her first tank? is she using 93 or 95?

If it's her first tank and she using 93, tell her to get 95 next she fills up. Remember that the ECU takes time to "settle".

I get similar consumption. I would assume the 1.6m would be similar to the 1.4A
 
Did she release the handbrake ?? Only joking.. More relevant, is she maybe a two-foot driver?

Accent 1.6 manual gets 5.8-7.8 depending where & how I drive. I did find the onboard not to be very accurate though, especially if you have just filled up. It takes a while to settle.

when we bought it, the dealer said that initially the petrol consumption would be high. this is the 'settling-in' period referred to above. so no need to panic. if i can remember she said 1500km's then it should get better. phone the dealer and get an accurate figure though then you can get worried.
 
Wait till the car is run in. (around 2000km mark) then check.
 
My SO has the same vehicle, except it's a 2010 model. It has never used more than around 7.5 L/100km in the 11,000 km she has driven it
 
When se next fills ups, check how many 'real' K's she did on the tank.

Well second full tank. Gave the dealer a call today and as many have said it needs to run in for about 1000 kms.
 
Driven plenty of Hyundai's and one thing they all have in common is that their fuel efficiency increases dramatically as the engine gets run-in i.e. becomes nice and loose. My wife's i20 started coming into it's own when it got to around 10K km.
 
The 1.6l that is in the accent and the i20 is a better engine then the 1.4, its more efficient.

Also, you have to remember that when you drive the 140auto i20 u must still drive it like a 1.4!! people tend to forget that its a 1.4 because its got the auto gearbox..
 
I have this very problem when I drive my wifes auto i10. I drive it like I drive my 3 litre turbo diesel.
 
The performance and consumption of the i20 1.6 engine at 1 000km and at 10 000km is drastically different.

The performance improved dramatically after I hit around 10 000km, fuel usage did decrease a bit, but mostly because I drive less aggressively.
 
Yesterday we filled up our 2012 Elantra 1.8 GLS automatic, having used up its first full tank. Mostly short distances (<20km) were driven, and the comsumption was 7.4 l/100km and the efficiency was 13.5 km/l. The car now has ±1500km on the odometer. We now have filled up with 95 BP unleaded. We'll see how this next tank goes.

what, you did +- 1500km on a tank?
 
I have a 1.3 with a auto box. What kilometers i get is tied to how I drive. Driving a small capacity doesn't necessarily mean lots of kilos. Although that i20 1.4 has more grunt than my 1.3. Couldn't believe that .1 makes so much difference.
