Is anyone else experiencing dashboard rattles in their kia rio's and if so did you manage to get it fixed?

My car is a year old now and its driving me mad,the only thing stopping me from taking it to the dealer is the fact that the whole dashboard will have to be removed and that might cause a few problems later on.

How old exactly? Afaik rattles are covered for a year on most brands.

I'd take it in.

the car is a year and 3 months old, apparently kia is requesting a recall in the united states as it is a very common problem.

My wife's Rio started rattling in the dash after a few months of buying it (Bought it June 2012, rattles started about August 2012). When she took it to Kia Alberton, for it's first service (at +-15000km), she told them about the rattling in the dash. She was then immediately told that she should have returned the Rio within the FIRST 2000km to fix any rattles or foreign knocking sounds. They were willing to remove the dash and fix the problem, but the car would have to be booked in for another day, and WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY for it. I find it ridiculous that we were never told about this, but were just expected to know about it. Needless to say, it still rattles now. We were considering trading in our other car (2005 VW Polo) for a new Kia Cerato, however, with bad service like we experienced at Kia Alberton... I don't think so...

Nothing yet, bought ours November 2012.

Obviously doesn't happen to every Korean car, but could happen to any manufacturer's car. Point is, the attitude when it does happen... I've had a similar experience with Hyundai Milnerton. I do not trust Korean (with their 150000km warranties) anymore. My current car (not Korean) had a small rattle in the C-pillar. The dealer immediately offered to fix it. Had to book it in twice, but they did fix it.

I have had bad experiences with Opel, VW (the worst) and Kia so far. I think the service levels in SA for a lot of brands are pathetic.

 The joys of owning Korean...;) :p

Cheap shot..

Four years ago you told me that if I bought a Kia it would be falling apart after a year. Four years later it looks and drives good as new

:D 4 years!

Contact Guinness Book of records!! :p

Jokes aside, you obviously look after your car very well, and for that I commend you. 4 Years ago, we were seeing some horror story Kia's and Hyundai's being traded in.

We currently have the new picanto and the rio. Previously we had the old picanto (when they just came out here). It drove for 10 years without a hitch, just sent it for regular services. My polo was in for serious repairs 4 times in four years. With services, she was at the dealership 8 times in four years. Opel said it's normal for a steering rack to go after 60000KM. With Kia so far it was just a case of bad service at one branch, not failure. Yet. Touch wood :p

:)

I reckon with proper maintenance and care the car will be good for 10 years easily. My mother had a 1996 Elantra which is still going today. Ironically, she sold it after 5 years and replaced it with an Audi A4 1.8 which is no longer alive.

I suspect that a lot of people who buy cheaper cars, treat them like cheaper cars and therefor take a harder beating...

I see I'm not alone here. I have a 2013 model with a rattle coming from the passenger side, close to the windshield / mini A-pillar triangle window thing. Is it the same for everyone else?

Between October last year and now I've taken the car in over 8 times (memory is foggy). Wrote a whore of an email that I'm sending to everyone I can find for it to just go in, be sorted, and sent back to me.

Their BS service is extremely frustrating.

It's honestly the only thing that brings the car down :(

I am really only kidding - the newer ones are better finished off and are definitely "wearing" better than the older ones.

I also know of quite a few VERY old Accents and Elantras running around. Not my first choice, but obviously they do their job otherwise they wouldn't be as popular as they are. :)

Just thought I'd drop by and mention how my issue was resolved. I gave up with the particular branch I was dealing with and threw my toys out the cot with customer care.

They directed me to a different branch, which handled the booking process quite nicely.

What happened next stunned me.

Took it in, test drove and demonstrated the noise to the foreman. When we got back, he took it in the workshop, did some voodoo and we tested it again - rattle gone.

It turned out to be the fender linings being loose. I don't remember what was done (he popped in new fasteners or something, on both sides). But yeah. Problem solved.

6+ months of pain, and all that was needed was the right person.

The only unfortunate thing is the soft noises coming from other parts of the dash, cause by them removing the dash so many times. But that I can live with.

thread resurrection: my boet is looking a at getting a 2012 Rio with 45,000km on the clock.

any major issues from the Kia owners after 5-6 years?

thanks

It's difficult to say, really nitpicking here.

- There is a rattle somewhere in the dash from my previous escapades of trying to get it sorted. The branch I took it to originally made things worse instead of improving it. I haven't had the care to get that sorted.
- There is something loose in the sunroof, it makes a very soft noise when it's open.
- The tyres it came with didn't last. I had to replace them after 41 000 k's, and it's not as if I go rally driving with the car. Still puzzled about this.
- Replacement tyres cost an arm and a leg, unless you don't mind cheapies. Original conti's were about R2500 a pop, the Michelins I have now were R1900 a pop, and some fongkong WindForce tyres were R1300 a pop.
- I had an incident the other day where the steering controls for the radio went ape. Mute turned the volume up, volume down turned the volume up, mode muted the sound. It self-regenerated, and it's working fine now :D
- Light rattle noise coming from the back, yet to have the care to discover where it's coming from.
- When the car is really cold, there is intense clutch shuddering when reversing / pulling off. It's been like that since about a year after I got the car. It's fine during the summer months though. I've been in two minds about getting it checked out.

I'm not really the best example, I've only had the car for just over 3 years.
