2012 Polo GTi, Xenons & DRL, plus Satnav??

Howzit guys,

I've been very keen on getting this car after doing research and checking out my mates one, the only problem i have so far is the optional extras. I know that South Africa is importing the POlo GTi atm, and we along with Australia get the same models/extras etc..

When i did research online i noticed that the Gtis in europe and asia have the option of the Xenons and Leds as well as the Satnav radio. VW in SA has a knack of releasing the standard model first then after a lil while(a year or so) releasing the "full" model, as they did with the Golf 6 GTi.

Does anyone have an idea, if/when the Polos will come the Xenons&DRL or should i just give up hope all together?

Who on earth wants satnav built in these days?
 
I wouldn't mind satnav built in because using a phone is a bit of a mission and it kills your battery if you don't plug it in etc. Only problem being at VW prices that satnav will be at least 15k extra.
 
well satnav is not crucial, im more concerned about the Xenons and LED DRL. I just figured that they would release both of them at the same time.

VW will do the satnav for you, its the same radio thats in the Golf 6 GTi, RS510 i think, just ask them but they will charge over 10 000.

Garmin or Tom-Tom? You really have to ask yourself whether a good looking satnav is worth the extra R500pm in repayments. I'd rather put it towards a maintenance plan since the car doesn't come with one.

Yea i was also thinking the same thing, the RS510 is the touch normal touch screen interface, no GPS, i wouldn't actually mind that, used it on a G6, very nice..

any idea about if VW will release a model with these features?
 
Xenons and DRLs may never become available locally, or they might get introduced next month. There's really no way of knowing. The dealerships themselves get less than a month or two's notice with specification changes...

They likely won't, as the GPS antennae won't be present if the car wasn't assembled with satnav in the first place. We tried it once a couple of years ago with a GTI 5 - had to disassemble most of the interior to route the antennae to where they were meant to be. Not worth it. Regardless, with portable satnavs being cheap as chips and 90% of new phones being able to function as more than adequate navigation systems, I regard paying extra for OEM satnav as daft.
 
@HS: it's been about a year since this car has been released... Any feedback so far in terms of its reliability?

I'd love to be able to tell you, but I'm out of circulation at present and have been for far more than a year unfortunately. I haven't heard any horror stories, but then I'm not nearly as closely involved with VW as I used to be.

I'd still buy one though. :D

A friend of mine did it quite successfully, I think he put the parts in the driver side A pillar.

That might well be the case but there's a limit to the work a dealer will undertake, in the interest of minimising grounds for future claims and complaints.

Well, it'd be physically impossible for me to be a dealer... the whole bricks and mortar vs flesh and bone deal, ya know. But I've got a good couple of years' worth of dealership experience behind me. ;)
 
The VW satnav is awesome but not worth the R28,860 they charge for it.

They're smoking some real good **** when it comes to what they charge for extras.
 
Rns 510 can be had +-7k from ebay
The rcd510 looks similiar but does not have nav.

Fairly easy install with some vagcom coding. The gps antenae fits above the unit in the dash. So no need to remove interior etc.

New polo problems- heard of a few sunroofs exploding. Lol
