Hi, this is my first post to the forum and I hope you guys can help.:)
im looking at getting the 27 inch IMac (the latest one) but I need to know, is it worth it at R27000 compared to a windows pc. I do movie and photo editing and music production and just general school work (PowerPoint and word stuff)
thanks in advance
Vaughan

It'll be fantastic, but if you're looking for value for money, Mac's not the way to go. I would suppose it's how serious you are about the video & photo editing.

Thanks for the reply's,
one of the main reasons was the compatibility with my iPhone iPad etc, and their stability.
I have always been a windows fan, but after windows 8 and the amount of issues I have had with my computer crashing I thought that I would try apple. Event though the cost is higher than a windows comparison.
I might split it and get a windows desktop and an apple MacBook air for the best of both worlds

If you already have an iPad and iPhone, then OSX becomes a compelling option... Personally, having made the switch a few years back, I'd even be willing to forego my iOS options for Android etc., but OSX has made a massive difference to my workflow - I cannot see myself going back to Windows...

Whether you need an iMac, as opposed to a MBP or Mac Mini - will largely depend on what you will be doing with it.

You won't really get a straight-up answer to your question on any forum, because it really depends on what you need! Do some research, have a look over at Youtube - plenty of very good channels explaining the benefits to be had by the one, over the other!

Good luck!

If you can spend the extra cash to get a Mac, go for it. You will not be disappointed. Like someone said above, if you are looking for the best value for money, then look elsewhere. If you are looking for something that - and I quote - "just works" you cannot pick a better computing platform.

Every single person that I know that works with media (photographers, video editors and music production) professionally works with Mac.

Yes you can buy a custom PC that will kill the Mac's spec-sheet, but the Mac will still run faster and feel faster than the PC.

couldnt agree more.

I am not 100% sure on needs but if need something mobile the RMBP are really amazing! I have myself a 13" rMBP and its awesome.

Imac is nice but id like an i7 and SSD drive if spending that much money. reason for macbook. its mobile and fast. I know video editing and sometimes photo editing takes a while to render etc but with ssd it would be much quicker.

I am doing development and bit or photo editing on mine. I have 27" sammy 1080p monitor as well. it works great for my usage. for a dual core I5 with 8gb ram it is running better than my i7 desktop I had. because ssd makes huge difference.

but again it is up to u. just remember future needs. dont buy something you going to be disappointed with after 6months or a year even.

Think that he will need a better graphics card if he wants to do video editing. I have the iMac and Macbook Pro, while I use my macbook way more than my iMac, I don't do any video editing. The top of the line Macbook is really expensive.

I'm really glad that I moved away from windows. I've saved a bucket load of time not having to continuously troubleshoot hardware and software issues. Always laugh when I hear a colleague complaining about something new not working on their windows machines.

It's all relative.

Someone who has embraced Apple before and knows the joys of working with them will happily pay the money again and again.

Someone who has never used OS X for more than a few hours will tell you there are cheaper options.

You aren't just buying into hardware, you are buying into a whole ecosystem.

agree as well... rmbp; iphone and ipad air. everything is smooth and seamless. and iOS8 and OSX yosemite. things are gonna blow up! loving new features :)

never have a problem with my rmbp or ipad air. iphone 5 is getting old and showing its age, but still works day in and out.

Well said. With Mac its not about buying a "PC" but buying into a "Way of Life".
