How did you come to that conclusion? The GTI and the S3 are in a different class to the A1. This is just the Audi version of the Polo GTI

Because of the performance. Price the S1 too high and it won't sell, price it too low and the GTI would lose sales. Remember, same parent group so cannibalism is not encouraged.

And yes, built on the Polo platform, but uses a 2l engine and Quattro unlike the Polo GTI. Leaving us with the Golf GTI at 6.5 seconds to 100, S1 at 5.9, and S3 at 4.9 / 5.2
