2015 Israeli Elections thread

You can't say it.....can you? "I condemn the killing of 100's of innocent Palestinian civilians in Gaza," . That is why you continue to deflect. Talk about 5 months, insist on the "3 kids", yet are unable to condemn the killing of hundreds of civilians. As for you denying you said "flatten the place" makes you as disingenuous as we know you are.

Here we go again round in circles.
Are you that blind to think that it matters now????
Where were you when it happened?
Do you know how stupid it looks trying to save face almost a year later.
Why didn't you being so active on the forum say something then? Didn't suit your anti semitic agenda ?

Ahhhh I get it.
Please man its a year too late. Spin me another one.

Again what difference does the timing of the condemnation make, when I heard about the killings I thought it was repugnant - I didn't think it necessary for a normal person to post such thoughts on a web forum just so certain conservative blowhards wouldn't think I was a Jew hater. I entered the discussion when it turned to the political roots of the problem yet you seem to think that makes me anti-semitic. The reason I am involved in Israeli discussions as I find the politics seems to be so one sided either for or against Israel, I would like to think I treat both sides equally but somehow you think anything less than 100% support of Isreal makes me anti-Semitic.

As for being a year too late, my life does not begin and end with the forum and neither do my thoughts - I condemned it in this thread just so you would be under no doubts -if that is not good enough nothing ever will be for you.

Point had been made. Enjoy it boys. Go and read the thread and see that none of you condemned it. .......For the millionth time. But as I said pint made and priced again.
Killing of Jews is ok with you.
And that's fine just have the balls to come out and admit that's how you feel.
Instead of beating around the bush and trying to now save face.
Have fun.

Grade A+ trolling from you as always, well played..

Grade A+ trolling from you as always, well played..

Well, by #marine logic , if you don't condemn the killing of the 100's of the innocent Palestinian civilans....that makes you anti Arab, and as Arabs are technically a racial grouping......in essence you are a racist. Just saying

Possible Likud coalition parties

Jewish Home Party

Leader: Naftali Bennet

The party's members adhere to the belief that Jews are divinely commanded to retain control over the*Land of Israel*Many members have taken the lead in establishing Israeli settlements, making it nearly impossible for the party to join a coalition led by the center-left political bloc.

Bennet stated publically he wants to annex 60+% of the West Bank, leaving the remaining 35+% to the Palestinians who make up upward of 80% of the West Bank population and give control Gaza to the Egyptians, essentially any possibility of a cohesive Palestinian state

Uri Ariel, a member of Jewish Home was the minister of housing during the previous government and continued to build illegal settlement unabated, cynically ensuring that building plans were strategically announced whenever Palestinian-Israeli negotiations were touted

Key quotes:

"There is not going to be a Palestinian state within the tiny land of Israel," he said, referring to the area from the Jordan river to the Mediterranean. "It's just not going to happen. A Palestinian state would be a disaster for the next 200 years." _ Naftali Bennet

United Torah Judaism recommends Netanyahu for PM, bringing his total nominations to 51

By GREER FAY CASHMAN 03/22/2015 16:27

With the nomination by United Torah Judaism, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shot ahead and now has 51 nominations versus the 24 which have been given to Zionist Union leader Isaac Herzog.

Former deputy health minister Yaakov Litzman, who is looking to hold the portfolio again, told President Reuven Rivlin that UTJ is primarily interested in social welfare issues and would like the next government to focus attention on peripheral communities, especially the weaker sectors.

by the way
who won the elections?
and by what margin=seats?
:)

They have a very confusing system whose only benefit is that it kind of ensures that any particular party will not win outright and has to form alliances to form a government.
It has a form of proportional representation, so the below result are not the final ones. Netanyahu won 23.4% of the vote and the Zionist Union won 18.67% , not enough to form a government. Netanyahu will make likely alliances with far right and religious parties to form a government. They need 61 seats pledged, i think

The Arab parties largely coalesced for this election and won 10% of the vote. The advantage was that they have 10% of the seats. The disadvantage is that it includes parties within it with policies that make it political suicide for the Zionist Union to alliance with them.

Likud - 30 seats
Zionist Union 24 seats
Joint List - 13 seats
Yesh Atid - 11 seats
Kulanu - 10 seats
The Jewish Home - 8 seats
Shas - 7 seats
Yisrael Beiteinu - 6 seats
United Torah Judaism - 6 seats
Meretz - 5 seats
(Total number of seats) 120

To all parties...

Please get back on topic. I detest censorship but it is almost time to head in that direction.

Nearly every thing posted here goes off tangent after two or three posts. This interest in herding Israel(/Palestine) discussions back on topic confirms the prevailing suspicion that discussions involving Israel always receive special attention.

The problem being that certain individuals almost always resort to accusations of anti-Semitism. I have been accused of being Muslim and an anti-Semite in this thread. I fully agree with herding the discussion back on topic but if that is the case then unsubstantiated accusations need to be removed. Either redact the wild accusations or leave them in and allow people to defend themselves.

ISRAEL'S NETANYAHU APPEARS POISED TO BUILD COALITION

Israel's prime minister has secured a majority of backers in the new parliament and will now be tasked with forming the next government.

Israel's ceremonial president, Reuven Rivlin, was meeting Monday with the parties in parliament to hear their recommendations before appointing who will form the next coalition government. After a resounding election victory for his Likud party, Benjamin Netanyahu was assured of getting that nod.

It became a formality after the new centrist party Kulanu gave its nod to Netanyahu as well, giving him 61 backers out of the 120 in parliament.

Rivlin is scheduled to meet with Netanyahu later this week and officially set the coalition talks into motion. Netanyahu appears poised to set up a coalition with Kulanu and several religious and ultra-Orthodox parties.

I don't edit posts as it could be perceived that I'm inserting my own opinions. Either they are left and it is defended or it is deleted together with consequent posts. I prefer the former.

In Shocking Breach, U.S. Declassifies Document Revealing Some of Israel's Nuclear Capabilities

On February 12, the Pentagon quietly declassified a top-secret 386-page Department of Defense document from 1987 detailing Israel's nuclear program – the first time Israel’s alleged nuclear program has ever been officially and publically referenced by the U.S. authorities.

In the declassified document, the Pentagon reveals supposed details about Israel’s deterrence capabilities, but it kept sections on France, Germany, and Italy classified. Those sections are blacked out in the document.

The two main exceptions in the international media that wrote about the declassification at the time were the state-funded Iranian regime station Press TV and the state-funded Russian station RT.

Both these media were rumored to have been tipped off about this obscure report at the time by persons in Washington. (Both the RT and PressTV stories falsely claim that the U.S. gave Israel help in building a hydrogen bomb. This is incorrect.)

Israel has never admitted to having nuclear weapons. To do so might spark a regional nuclear arms race, and eventual nuclear confrontation.

The declassification is a serious breach of decades’ old understandings concerning this issue between Israel and its north American and certain European allies.

The Pentagon’s February declassification coincided with intense pressure on the Netanyahu government by the Obama administration, trying to force the Israeli prime minister to cancel a planned speech to Congress questioning the wisdom of a highly risky nuclear deal with the Iranian regime.

However, in the past 24 hours several media in the U.S. and elsewhere have now chosen to report on the February declassification by the Pentagon. This coincides with stepped up efforts this week by the Obama administration to weaken Israel’s deterrent capabilities, including leaking to the Wall Street Journal incorrect allegations that Israel directly spies on the U.S.

An informed person connected to the government in Jerusalem, tells me:

“Over the years there have been backhanded references and comments made by individuals with some familiarity with this issue. But there has never before been any official description of the quality and capacity of installations. This kind of declassified document constitutes a whole different level of acknowledgement. It is part of a pattern of carefully controlled leaking of information which is very hard to attribute to a specific government agency or individual. Nevertheless it is clear what is happening.

“The failure to maintain the degree of mature and cooperative discretion that officials from several governments have exercised up to now, marks a serious change in the code of conduct. It is not wise to draw attention to this issue because it would tend to destabilize the international order and encourage others to pursue nuclear capabilities.”

The Pentagon declassification is not the first time the Obama administration has seemingly tried to curtail or control Israeli efforts to stop the Iranian nuclear program.

In May 2011, the State Department revealed that the Israeli business tycoon brothers Sami and Yuli Ofer, were sending their cargo ships to Iran, as reported, for example, here in the Financial Times.

The Sunday Times of London, again on the basis of tip-offs, reported on June 5, 2011 that cargo ships owned by a subsidiary of the Ofer Brothers Group were being used to shuttle Israeli agents and reconnaissance equipment into Iran.

According to the report, at least eight ships belonging to companies owned by the Ofer group docked in Iranian ports to load and offload cargo in the years prior to 2011, as Israel made substantive efforts (aided by some European countries) to slow down and hamper Iran’s nuclear weapons program.

Sami Ofer died on June 2, 2011, three days before that report was published.

The full story of the Obama administration’s effort to undermine, and effectively attempt to take control of, Israel’s deterrent capabilities in various spheres is yet to be written. There have been several other aspects to these efforts.

Many might say that the Israeli government has had little choice but to turn for assistance to Congress and to persons in the U.S. defense and intelligence communities, who share Jerusalem’s intense concerns about the nature of the anticipated deal with the Iranian regime Obama seems determined to sign.

Netanyahu signs first coalition partners

Jerusalem - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu signed up his first partners on Wednesday for a new coalition government, a lawmaker and spokeswoman said, putting him on course to lead a heavily right-leaning cabinet.

The deals with the ultra-Orthodox United Torah Judaism (UTJ) party and centrist Kulanu give Netanyahu's right-wing Likud control of 46 of parliament's 120 seats.

Netanyahu's emerging government is likely to pursue tough policies towards the Palestinians, including further settlement building in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, lands the Palestinians seek for a state along with the Gaza Strip.

On the eve of the March 17 election, he drew international outrage by declaring there would be no Palestinian state on his watch, backtracking from a 2009 pledge to pursue a two-state solution to the decades-old conflict.

He has until May 7 to form a government.

“We signed a coalition deal with the Likud just now,” UTJ leader Yakov Litzman told Israeli's Channel One. Netanyahu then signed with centrist Kulanu party, a Likud spokeswoman said.

Likud is still negotiating with three other parties with whom it is expected to secure a 67-seat majority: ultra-nationalist Yisrael Beitenu, far-right Jewish Home and ultra-Orthodox Shas.

Israel's foreign minister Lieberman resigns, throwing coalition in doubt

Israel’s combative foreign minister, Avigdor Lieberman, is resigning from his post after declaring he will not join the new rightwing coalition that Binyamin Netanyahu is trying to assemble.

Lieberman’s announcement comes two days before a final deadline by which time Netanyahu is obliged by law to have put together a new government or step aside as prime minister.

The withdrawal of Lieberman and his rightwing Yisrael Beiteinu party will pose a headache for Netanyahu before Wednesday morning’s deadline.

Netanyahu has been pursuing a largely rightwing coalition including the ultra-Orthodox parties, the far-right pro-settler Jewish Home led by Naftali Bennett, and Moshe Kahlon’s centre-right Kulanu.

But without Lieberman, Netanyahu is expected to manage only the slimmest of majorities of 61 seats in the 120-seat Knesset, which means he could struggle to push through legislation and would be vulnerable to the agendas of his partners.
