2015 Kia Sorento

Kia has been recently some nice cars lately. Just a pity about the badge.

Kia has been recently some nice cars lately. Just a pity about the badge.

The badge value has been steadily increasing. Same with Hyundai.

A decade ago they were seen as cheap Korean crap, these days they're starting to really compete with the main guys and I think that in another decade they will all be on the same level.

@fiesaST - you very busy today i see :-)

Nice but what are the prices?

lol just busy checking out one of my fav cars news sites; netcarashow.com

The Sorento; i20 & Rangey SVR all were "announced" & to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show. After that only market sales commence; So SA prices are too early to tell.

This actually does not look as good as the current one. And if my eyes do not deceive me it looks like the ground clearance has been lowered.

*bump*

Out in SA.

2.2 CRDi LX - R499 995
2.2 CRDi EX AWD - R599 995

Rear looks like a Fortuner, front looks like a Chev.

I don't get why people always feel the need to compare cars to others.
Most time accusing manufacturers of copying looks of others (Not what you were doing here I know)

With so many cars on the road, it's hard to make something truly unique while sticking to a budget.
Getting a designer to really think out of the box and start from scratch would mean more cost has to be put into production and that means higher selling price.

So why not rather go for something that works and just make it better?

To me the rear looks like a KIA with tail lights similar to the new i20. (Its newphew :D)

looks good to me but prefer the sante fe - same thing i guess but just looks sexier to me :p

Kia adds sat-nav-equipped SXL to Sorento line-up

Kia Motors South Africa has added a new, range-topping derivative to its local Sorento line-up, dubbing the flagship the SXL.

Priced at R719 995, the SXL comes in some R20 000 above the current top-of-the-line SX variant. So, what do you get for the extra cash? Essentially, a seven-inch colour touchscreen with satellite navigation.

The new model is based on the seven-seater SX derivative, which means it also comes standard with blind-spot detection with lane-change assist, rear cross traffic alert, and a powered tailgate.

The SXL is powered by Kia’s familiar 2,2-litre turbodiesel engine, which develops 147 kW and 440 N.m and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

The newcomer also comes standard with a five-year/100 000 km maintenance plan, as well as a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty.

Pricing:
Kia Sorento 2,4 LS Manual 5-Seater: R443 995
Kia Sorento 2,2 CRDi LX Auto 5-Seater: R568 995

Kia releases cut-price Sorento diesel

Kia has always had a well-priced entry into the Sorento range in the form of the 2.4-litre LS. Problem is, many buyers would have seen its 127kW normally aspirated 2.4-litre petrol engine as too much of a compromise, both in terms of performance and economy.

Now Kia is introducing what looks to be a somewhat sweeter deal. The new 2.2 CRDi LS derivative adds Kia’s meaty (147kW/440Nm) 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine to the equation, along with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Priced at R489 995, the newcomer is just R32 000 more expensive than the 2.4 LS petrol model, but it undercuts the next most affordable diesel model, the LX, by almost R100 000.

So what have they cut to make the saving? As you’d expect with such a large saving, a few luxury features got the chop. The LX model’s dual zone automatic climate control, for instance, makes way for a conventional manual unit with no rear seat ventilation, while cloth replaces leather on the seats and there’s a normal manual parking brake in place of the more luxurious model’s electronic unit. Also gone are the front parking sensors, rear-view camera, electric seat adjustment, heated mirrors, electrochromatic inside mirror and auto light control.

But do you really need all that stuff anyway? Given the price, Kia appears to have come up with a sensible spec sheet that still has all the basic comfort, convenience and entertainment features, including a six-speaker audio system with Aux and USB ports as well as well as Bluetooth connectivity.

Unfortunately Kia has skimped on safety items. While the LS has ABS brakes and dual front airbags, you have to stretch to the LX for side and curtain bags.

Like the LX, the LS is a five-seater – only higher-positioned models offer seating for seven – but it does boast a huge 660-litre boot and the rear seats have a handy 40:20:40 split folding function.

Given its unibody architecture, Kia is positioning the Sorento as a more sophisticated alternative to bakkie-based large SUVs such as the Toyota Fortuner and Chevrolet Trailblazer, which sell in a similar price range. The Sorento LS and LX models are front-wheel driven, while the EX, SX and SXL feature permanent all-wheel drive.

Kia adds base-spec Sorento turbodiesel

Having added a new flagship model to the Sorento lifestyle SUV line-up last year, Kia has further bolstered the range by introducing a turbodiesel derivative that matches the specification of its entry-level 2.4-litre petrol 5-seater offering.

The Sorento, which was selected as a semi-finalist in its category of the 2016/17 Cars.co.za Consumer Awards (in 2.2 CRDi SLX AWD guise), now gains a 2.2 CRDi LS derivative.

The newcomer, priced at R489 995, adds to 2.4 LS’ space and practicality by virtue of the increased power, torque and fuel efficiency of its 2.2-litre turbodiesel motor (peak outputs of 147 kW and 440 N.m, claimed carbon dioxide emissions of 203 g/km), mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Although the 2.2 CRDi LS’ specification reflects the derivative’s value-for-money price positioning, it does feature an LCD multi-info display in the instrument binnacle, power windows and electrically adjustable side mirrors, air-con, a multifunction steering wheel, 6-speaker radio/CD/MP3 audio system with USB and auxiliary inputs, as well as rear park distance control.

The rear bench is equipped with Isofix child seat mounting points and has a 40:20:40 split folding function, while the vehicle's claimed luggage capacity is 660 litres. Safety equipment includes ABS with EBD and dual front airbags.

“This new model brings the comfort and refinement of a premium, purpose-built SUV to a market segment where competitors are largely based on what is essentially a light commercial vehicle platform,” Gary Scott, the deputy managing director and director of sales of Kia Motors SA said.
