2016 2.l Prem Tucson vs 2014 BMW 320d, please help

Guys would appreciate expertise in this matter,

I'm looking into buying my first financed car, i'm looking for something reliable that should not give me stress in the next 5 years, The car would be for the Mrs.

The 90000 5 year motor plan on the Tucson is tempting while the BMW would be still covered for the next 3 years, more kids/family space on the BMW than the Hyndai , the most important one for me is however reliability so pay R340000 for a 10000km 2016 Tucson vs R320000 for a 2014 60000km 320d,

Given option i would like a chain driven hence learning towards the BMW (just had a belt snap on my Audi three month back, nightmare still fresh),the wife on the other hand...well you know wife's

What do you guys think?, what to look out for?, ways to get better dealer to lower the price?
 
The BMW would have taken more of the depreciation knock in comparison to the Tucson. Drive both and see which one suits you better.
 
I'm going for the test drive now on Tucson, BMW was as really nice drive,
 
80000km worry free driving vs 40000km? My heart says BMW while my mind says Tucson. Why have 2 sedans when you could have a SUV for those getaway weekends?

Indeed. All diesel engines spontaneously blow up when they hit 100,000km and a brand new vehicle from Korea will be a lot more reliable than a vehicle that's mainly been driven on highways and comes from Germany.
 
Just came from the test drive, it is a nice drive, great family car, not too much space, would be perfect for her, for me it lacks the quick VaVaVumm ,

He's effectively covered for only 3 years on that diesel at which point he sells or extends Motoplan but at what cost.
Anything can happen.

Back to the Hyundai don't they now offer 7 years and 200k?
OP said 5 years and 90k.

Hyundai is aiming to become the undisputed peace-of-mind leader in the South African motor industry with its new seven-year, 200 000km manufacturer's warranty.

The warranty covers “a wide array” of engine and transmission components and applies to all new Hyundai passenger cars and light commercial vehicles sold in SA from 1 February onwards.

WHAT PARTS DOES IT COVER?

Hyundai has released a document detailing what parts are covered by the new warranty and you can download it here.

In a nutshell, though, it appears to cover all internal engine, transmission and gearbox parts, as well as all drive lines and drive couplings, including prop shafts, differentials, axle shafts and suspension hub bearings.

WHAT'S NOT COVERED?

Better go easy on that clutch as the clutch disc and plate are only covered for one year or 20 000km, whichever comes first, although the pressure plate does get the full extended warranty.

Furthermore, the 7-year/200 000km warranty does not apply to most of the steering components, including the power steering pump, as well as most suspension parts, all braking components, the exhaust system and electrical parts like alternators and starter motors. These aforementioned items are, however, still covered by the 'basic' five-year/150 000km warranty, which is albeit still more than generous in its own right.

This does not apply to the vehicle's sound system, however, which Hyundai covers for 3-years/60 000km, while vehicle batteries are covered for 2-years/40 000km.

GOOD FOR RESALE VALUE

Hyundai is confident that this new aftersales offering will bolster the resale value of its products and, in the words of Hyundai SA marketing director Stanley Anderson, the warranty bears testimony to the trust that the company places in its products.

Hyundai is no stranger to lengthy warranties, with the previous five-year/150 000km warranty having taken the industry by surprise back in 2007.

It is crazy how few people understand the differences between a maintenance/motor plan, service plan and a warranty...
 
One is a Sedan and the other a SUV. The one is 2.5 years old with 60,000kms on that you did not drive and the other half a year old with dealer demo KM's on it and then a timing chain vs a belt is also thrown in for good measure, but the price difference is R20,000.

Just buy the Tucson. You are probably going to buy something else after 3 years tops anyway, loooong before the timing belt etc will worry you and and you will get more for your trade in than with the BMW.

I think i'm leaning towards the Hyndai, how the decision is between the 2015 10000Kms Hyndai Ix35 and the 2016 Tucson, price on the Ix35 looks very favorable, Wife will have to make the final call but yeeehh, we getting a Hyndai, thanks for the advise guys
 
If it was me in my circumstance: BMW.

In your circumstance: Hyundai.

Reasons Hyundai for you:
-Longer warranty and service plan. You probably wont use the warranty at all. On the BMW you NEED the great motor-plan but after 3 years you are going to need to have a fair chunk of money available in case something goes wrong and seeing as you are already financing it... I would never finance a out of motorplan BMW. I love the cars and would chose one myself but I would be very cautious. I have seen a personal friend get into a HEAP of trouble with this very car. Set him back years financially.

-Mechanically similar and more reliable

-More space

-You already have a German sedan (ok an inferior Audi but still, get something a little different)
