Well, that rules Jimmy Walker out. No one who's won the Par 3 contest has ever gone on to win the Masters! Nine hole in ones yesterday, vastly better than the previous record of 5, including two on one hole by Ricky Fowler and Justin Thomas.

Can't wait for play to get under way!

You wonder whether Walker sees it as a joy to win the Par 3 Contest or a jinx to his ambitions to wear the green jacket? I suppose there is always a first for everything.

Some notes on the Par 3 Contest:

Jimmy Walker broke the all-time scoring record at the Par 3 Contest with 19 – in other words, he made 7 two’s, a hole-in-one and 1 three! He beat the record set by Gay Brewer in 1973 and Art Wall in 1965 who scored 20.

There were a total of 9 hole-in-one’s on the day – another record – including two in one group by Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler, but the highlight of the day had to be the one by eighty year old Gary Player. The oldest player to have a hole-in-one in the comp and he won closest to the pin on one other hole. To make you feel even worse it was his 31st hole-in-one. Will he ever start acting his age?

Gary played with Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson Three of the all-time greatest players with 35 majors between them.

So who's your money on for US Masters 2016?

Tough call! So many golfers playing great golf at the moment. Adam Scott, Jordan Spieth, Jason Day, Rory McIlroy, Louis Oosthuizen all in fine form. Brandon Grace knocking on the door and then guys like Bubba Watson can never be ruled out. The course layout suits his style. Put a gun to my head and make me choose? Probably Jason Day but my money will be safely in my pocket.

Disappointed to see that despite the tournament getting underway now, coverage only starts at 21:00 tonight. So many great players will be back in the hut by then!

32 players have so far teed off and only 4 are currently under par. Scoring seems quite tricky...

See Dstv channel 208. Starts at 16:00 with nice commentary.

I was watching and opened the scoreboard, saw ernie on +6. I thought he just tee'd of and i was gonna watch him play, figured i got the tee times wrong and he was done for the day only to see him tee of on the 2nd. Sjoh what a shocker in all the years that was the most shocking thing ever. It was like that one year brent snedker i think his name is,he 3putted a 3footer on the last hole and lost the tournament. Hoping jason day wins,if one of our guys cant do it.

Yeah, that was just silly by the Big Easy (trying to take it too easy it seems).

His short game is gone out the window.

His legacy is being tarnished. Ernie should just give up now and play the seniors...

This isn't the first time he's done this. At a major a year or so ago (I forget which one), he sconned a small child on the head off the tee and it wrecked him, culminating in also 3 or 4 putts where he tried to just reverse tap the ball in and failed. I still think he has what it takes to compete at this level but he needs to sort himself out between the ears to start with...
