2017 Audi A5 range (2nd Generation)

Late in June, we travelled to Portugal to drive the new two-door Audi A5 Coupe. But now the German automaker has officially revealed the five-door A5 Sportback, as well as the hotter S5 Sportback.

The new models will make their premieres at the upcoming Paris Motor Show.

As expected, the second-generation Sportback models feature the sort of subtle design revisions already seen on the Coupe. But there have been plenty of changes underneath, with Audi claiming that the overall weight of the new generation has fallen by as much as 85 kg to just 1 470 kg, depending on the model.

Inside, significant updates have also been affected. In fact, the Ingolstadt automaker says the interior length has gained some 17 mm, while shoulder room for both the driver and front passenger have increased 11 mm. Rear knee room, meanwhile, is up 24 mm.

At launch, there will be two TFSI and three TDI engine versions available for the A5 Sportback, producing between 140 kW and 210 kW. The 3,0-litre V6 turbo engine in the S5 Sportback, meanwhile, churns out 260 kW and 500 N.m, allowing a zero to 100 km/h sprint of 4,7 seconds.

The A5 Coupe is due to arrive in South Africa in the first quarter of 2017, and we can expect the Sportback derivatives to follow in good time.

Love the sound of the new V6 Turbo in the S4/S5. It has a rich, offbeat tone, compared to the unpleasant, unrefined sound of the previous V6 Supercharged. I can't wait to hear what Armytrix, AWE Tuning, APR etc. do with their exhaust systems for these new engines.

Final bodywork of the next-gen RS5 has been seen for the first time; hot Audi gets swollen arches, big wheels and brakes and around 500bhp

The next-generation Audi RS5 super-coupé has been spotted testing ahead of an expected launch early next year.

The latest development car is the first to be seen with production bodywork. An earlier test car, shown in our gallery, used the body of an S5. The RS5 has larger air intakes, wider arches, bigger wheels and brakes and more prominent exhaust surrounds than the S5.

The larger intakes have been added to feed the RS5’s more potent engine. Although it is unconfirmed, the RS5 is expected to switch from the current, normally aspirated, 444bhp V8 to a twin-turbocharged V6 producing around 500bhp.

This should enable the new four-wheel-drive coupé to accelerate from zero to 62mph in around four seconds.

Historically, the RS5 has arrived late into the A5 model’s life cycle, but insiders say the next-gen RS5 will be launched earlier to meet growing demand.

When it arrives, the RS5 will rival BMW’s M4 and Mercedes-AMG’s C 63 Coupé. Pricing is likely to rise slightly from the current car’s £58,365 but additional technology, including the latest Audi Virtual Cockpit and driver assist systems, will be included.

I see they have added a small detail by the fender and door, small wing insert. Not sure if it will be for all models.
