UK bans BMW ad aimed at 'rude' businessmen
A BMW advert that aimed to appeal to bad-mannered businessmen has been banned by watchdogs.
The German car giant used the slogan "Luxury just lost its manners" to promote the sports-limo.
Its double-page advert in the Daily Telegraph boasted that the 760Li xDrive can go from 0-100km/h in just 3.7 seconds.
It added: "For some, the climb to the top is quicker."
However, the company has fallen foul of UK rules that bar car companies from selling vehicles using speed. And it was at odds with the Highway Code, which says motorists must not drive without reasonable consideration for other road users.
The M760Li’s 6592cc V12 engine produces 448kW and 800Nm, and can have its speed governer liberated to allow 305km/h if the M Driver’s Package is ordered.
Explaining that it was targeting "high net worth" business leaders, BMW said the slogans were no more than "advertising puffery". However, banning the ad, the Advertising Standards Authority said it suggested that "drivers did not have to have regard for other road users".

BMW's Super 7 Series whisks to 100 in just 3.7 seconds
It's not every day you get to drive a luxury limousine around a racetrack, but the newly launched BMW M760Li xDrive priced at R2.7-million is no regular luxury limo.
The ever-playful engineers at BMW's M division have given this car the high-performance 6.6-litre TwinPower turbo V12 treatment and created not only the most powerful BMW production car yet built, but also the quickest accelerating one.
Pampered executives with a sporty streak will be pleased to know this lusty limo whisks from rest to 100km/h in just 3.7 seconds, quicker even than more overtly fire-breathing BMWs like the M5 and M4, and placing this 'super seven' into the accelerative league of cars with horses and bulls on their badges. With an optional M Driver's package, the 250km/h restricted top speed is raised to a governed 305km/h – ungoverned it would probably be fast enough to compete in the Indy 500.
BMW South Africa last week hosted the car's media launch at Port Elizabeth's Aldo Scribante racetrack, on what is the 40th anniversary of the 7 Series in this country. The first V12-engined version, the 750i, came along in 1987 wielding 220kW of normally-aspirated 5-litre power with rear wheel drive and hit the 100km/h mark in 7.4 seconds. It was a mighty feat for the time but the modern 7 Series flagship goes into true supercar territory with its sub four-second sprint and outputs of 448kW and 800Nm, with all-wheel drive to better manage all the muscle.
When you punch the accelerator the car explodes into silky aggression as g-forces pummel you into your luxury leather-padded seat. The rampant power feels out of synch with the silky smooth reverie of the soundproofed cockpit, which filters out all noises save for one: the fairly lusty growl of that V12. Kudos to the M-gineers for not making it sound like a sewing machine.
This hefty 2.3 ton car will never be a track machine, which is why BMW shied away from calling it an M7, but it does hold the road remarkably well for its size and there are M-specific styling, chassis and technology touches to give the M760Li xDrive a more athletic character. The eight-speed automatic has received M Performance-specific tuning to deliver more instantaneous downshifts, while the xDrive is a rear-biased all-wheel drive system that prevents early understeer.
Integral Active Steering adjusts the angle of the rear wheels to reduce low-speed steering effort and improve high-speed stability, and active roll stabilisation prevents the big car from wallowing in the corners without affecting the silky ride comfort. Gripping the tar gamely are performance tyres fitted to exclusive matt grey 20" wheels, while the 19-inch M Sport brakes dealt with the rigours of track work without fading.
The idea of a sporty 7 Series goes back a long way. The legendary Winfield-sponsored 745i that was raced here in the eighties by the equally legendary late Tony Viana kickstarted the whole thing. Built as a South African special to take on the mighty Alfa GTVs and Sierra XR8s of the time, the near-standard 745i was driven by Tony to victory in the 1985 Group 1 championship. Today the restored car is raced in historics by Tony's old team-mate and friend Paolo Cavalieri.

600bhp Alpina B7 Biturbo revealed with 205mph top speed
Reworked 7 Series uses turbocharged V8 with increased pressure
Alpina’s new B7 Biturbo is capable of doing 205mph, thanks to the power gains produced by its heavily reworked V8 engine.
Peak output of the car’s 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged unit is 600bhp and 590lb ft (156bhp and 111lb ft more than the 750i), helped by an increase in boost pressure from 1.0 to 1.2 bar, which is fed by a wider-bore intake system.
Alpina has also fitted a new direct intercooler system to improve the engine’s temperature management, something the firm claims enables it to handle high loads for long periods of time.
The car’s eight-speed ZF gearbox, which can be controlled manually via buttons on the back of the steering wheel, has also been retuned, with additional cooling, strengthened gear clusters and a larger torque converter.
UK cars come exclusively in rear-wheel drive and with a long wheelbase body, but even in this heavier form are capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in 4.0sec.
The car rolls on Alpina’s Classic design 20in wheels as standard, with 21in items available as an option. It gets unique chassis control settings for its Active Roll Stabilisation system and air suspension. The car also sits 20mm lower in Sport+ mode and has retuned rear steering.
The B7 Biturbo is on sale now, priced from £115,000.

One-off M760Li shows what BMW Individual can do
BMW’s Individual bespoke division, based in Garching, just outside the city, celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2017.
And what better way to mark the occasion than to invite the craftsmen and women who spend their working days producing unique cars to fulfil customers’ aspirations, to do one their way - something that would stand out even among all the special editions and individual commissions of the past quarter-century - for display at the upcoming Frankfurt motor show.
So they went big - literally. They started with BMW’s luxury flagship, a long-wheelbase M760Li, 448kW/800Nm, 6.6-litre V12 all-wheel drive performance limousine, finished in a very special one-off dark red paint colour, and looked for inspiration to a long-standing partner from the most luxury-focused industry on the planet - classic yachting.
BMW and Finnish luxury yacht builder Nautor's Swan have for many years been co-supporters of prestigious regattas such as “Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez”, and the two worked together to produce a one-off show car, fitted and trimmed to the standard of a multi-million dollar sailcraft.
Nautor's Swan did more than provide inspiration; its craftsmen produced the wood trim elements for this special model by hand at their workshop in western Finland. The teak panels have joints precisely filled with a fine layer of rubber; when applied to the wooden deck of a yacht it’s called caulking, and it allows the wood to expand and contract with changing temperatures and humidity.
And for the same reason this carbon-bonded wooden decking graces the boot floor of the show car, with the sides and lid liner trimmed in off-white alcantara synthetic suede.
The interior wood trims, door sills and floor coverings (‘cabin sole’ in yachtspeak) were also made and precisely fitted by Nautor’s Swan in solid teak, a supremely durable timber that’s also notoriously difficult to work with.
In contrast, the centre console and the driver’s side trim elements are made of European oak, embossed with the Nautor's Swan signet, which is also stitched into the head restraints, cushions and sun visors.
The interior is trimmed with fine-grain merino leather in off-white and brown, including the rear passenger footrests, A and B pillars, seat trims, door sills and the side covers for the instrument panel. Even the owner’s manual has been bound in matching brown merino leather at Garching.
There are more sailing cues on the outside; the brake callipers have been re-machined on the outside to leave the Nautor’s Swan logo standing proud, and refinished in the same colour as the car. Instead of a model designation, the boot lid carries the Nautor’s Swan arrow, which is usually found on the side of the yachts - and there’s a classic cove line (the sailor’s term for a coachline) down the side of body.
The BMW Individual M760Li inspired by Nautor's Swan will celebrate its debut at the Frankfurt motor show on 12 September, and will also introduce a new logo for BMW’s range-topping luxury cars - the 7 Series, the new X7, the i8 and the new i8 Roadster - that combines a black-and-white version of the manufacturer’s roundel first used 100 years ago with the company name, “Bayerische Motoren Werke” written out in full.

Jason Day Hole-In-One Scores Him A BMW M760Li And He Donates It
Jason Day hit the headlines this weekend during the BMW Championship at Conway Farms after he aced the 17th hole on his second round to win a magnificent BMW M760Li xDrive.
In an amazing show of sportsmanship and all-round good guy, the 29-year-old donated the Beemer to the Evans Scholars Foundation. BMW also donated a further $100k to the foundation, as this was the first hole-in-one of the tournament.
“I’m going to donate that car to help another student, because I am in a fortunate position and very blessed to be able to try to bless someone elsewhere,” said Day.

Imola Red BMW M760Li XDrive With 3D Design Kit Looks The Business
It has been quite a while since the team from BMW Abu Dhabi showed off something out of the ordinary but at least they have fired back on to our radar in fantastic fashion with this Imola Red stuner.
After paying a visit to the BMW Individual program, this M760Li xDrive received the full 3D Design body kit and was complimented with a M Performance trunk spoiler a swell as the carbon fibre side mirrors.
The red interior is a tad over-the-top because of the exterior paint job but then again a spec like this is not meant to be subtle in any shape or form.
