2017 Ford Escape

How can one see plastic is hard or soft from a picture? I'd like to learn this skill.

Another question. Do people lean against their dashboards and doors (beyond the obvious elbow contact areas) and such that much that its really an issue?

Usually, hard plastics gives off a sheen; soft-touch plastics appears dull. With regards to Ford, I have personal experience of this. My previous car was a Fiesta Ghia; the whole dash was made of soft-touch plastics. Then, once, had a Figo as a rental; dashboard was made of hard, shiny, plastics - didn't have a good feel and made the interior feel cheap, in comparison to my Fiesta, that was much older at that stage.

I have a Figo. I like a harder dash, no scratches vs my softer Bantams dash that got scratches easily.

Anyway, so about leaning against the dash...? Or is it the sheen that hurts your eyes? Your eyes should be on the road.

Nah, it's not about leaning against the dash; it's about how it feels to the touch. Note in car reviews and articles that people are always complaining about a hard dash and shiny plastics, because a soft dash and matt finish just looks and feels more premium.

You can see that middle console is hard shiny plastic. Same as current version that looks a space ship gone wrong - new one just has a screen
