Hmm....not so sure about exterior. Seems rather subtle....as speculated interior pretty much same as updated EcoSport.

"Ford Motor Company delivered the global debut of the next generation Ford Fiesta at a special "Go Further" event in Cologne, Germany.

Not one, not two, but four fun to drive Fiestas

Ford revealed four distinctive production variants of the next generation Fiesta: the stylish Fiesta Titanium, the Ford Performance-inspired Fiesta ST-Line, the upscale Fiesta Vignale and the Fiesta Active crossover.

Featuring an elegant exterior, and ergonomic interior that offers an 8 inch floating high-definition touchscreen and Ford's sophisticated SYNC 3 communications and entertainment system, Fiesta also will be the first Ford to deliver a premium B&O PLAY Sound System.

The expanded Fiesta range will offer more personalisation options to customers than ever before, and enhances the sporty, fun to drive character that has delighted generations of customers.

The next generation Ford Fiesta debuted with a spectacular unveil to music performed by the award-winning DJ Yoda assisted by a "YuMi" collaborative robot. Ford is among first auto makers to develop a new, closely integrated approach to car workers and collaborative robots working together on the assembly line. DJ Yoda and "YuMi" performed a setlist of tracks from 1976 onward in celebration of Fiesta's 40th anniversary."

Ford 1.0-litre Ecoboost engine to get fuel-saving cylinder deactivation

Three-cylinder Ecoboost petrol engine gets the ability to run as a twin under light throttle loads, improving fuel economy by up to 6%

The three-cylinder Ford 1.0-litre Ecoboost engine is to be offered with fuel-saving cylinder deactivation technology that will enable it to operate as a two-cylinder unit.

Similar technology is seen on many four-cylinder engines, but Ford claims this is the first time it has been engineered into a three-pot. Some manufacturers have dismissed the idea, citing refinement as one of the main issues, but Ford hasn’t been deterred.

Cylinder deactivation will automatically stop fuel delivery and valve operation for one of the engine’s cylinders under conditions where full capacity is not needed, such as when coasting or cruising with light demand on the engine. The technology can disengage or re-engage one cylinder in 14 milliseconds.

Capable of operating at speeds of up to 4500rpm, the system uses engine oil pressure to activate a special valve rocker and interrupt the connection between the camshaft and the valves of cylinder number one. Software uses factors including speed, throttle position and engine load to determine when to deactivate the cylinder.

The 1.0-litre Ecoboost - first introduced in 2012 - has a new single-piece camshaft module that has freed up space within the cylinder head for new oil channels and valve-switching componentry.

Ford engineers predict that the system will be active for a few seconds at a time in most driving scenarios and has the potential to improve fuel efficiency by up to 6%.

Installed in the current Fiesta, the 1.0-litre Ecoboost in 98bhp form is capable of a claimed combined economy of 65.7mpg, so a 6% improvement could take that figure to 69.6mpg.

Ford said it has “devised advanced solutions to counteract vibrations and ensure that cylinder deactivation is imperceptible to drivers in terms of operation and engine performance”.

The technology will be tested throughout 2017 and be made available for sale in 2018, although Ford hasn’t confirmed which car model will be the first to benefit from it. At present 11 Ford models – the Fiesta, Ecosport, B-Max, Focus, C-Max, Grand C Max, Tourneo and Transit Connect, Tourneo and Transit Courier and Mondeo – are available in Europe with the three-cylinder engine.

With the 1.0-litre Ecoboost available in three power ratings, Ford also has yet to confirm which of them will receive the cylinder deactivation technology.

The system uses an offset crankshaft configuration and deliberately ‘unbalanced’ flywheel and pulley that counteract vibration. The new dual-mass flywheel and a vibration-damping clutch disc help neutralise engine oscillations when the engine is running on two cylinders, especially at lower revs, and enable a wider operating range.

Intake and exhaust valves are closed when the system is active, trapping gases to provide a spring effect that helps balance forces across the three cylinders for refinement and also retain temperatures inside the cylinder that maintain fuel efficiency when reactivated.

New engine mounts, drive shafts and suspension bushes also will be specially tuned for refinement when the revised 1.0-litre Ecoboost is installed in a car.

The engine has also been made more durable to cope with the different loading forces resulting from cylinder deactivation, with uprated parts including a new camshaft chain, and valve rockers formed using advanced metal injection moulding.

The system was developed by Ford engineers in the UK, Germany and US, in collaboration with the Schaeffler Group, an engineering partner.

Bob Fascetti, Ford Motor Company’s global powertrain engineering boss said the engine was proof that "there is still untapped potential for even the best internal combustion engines to deliver better fuel efficiency for customers.”

2017 Ford Fiesta revealed – new pictures

The brand new Ford Fiesta has been revealed for the first time, with the range crowned by a sporty ST-Line trim

The 2017 Ford Fiesta has been revealed at a special event in Cologne, Germany.

Four variants of the new hatchback have been unveiled - Titanium, a plush Vignale version, a sporty ST-Line variant and a chunky 'Active' crossover version.

Ford says it wants to offer more personalisation choices for buyers, as well as enhancing the car's engaging driving style.

The newest generation of the UK's best-selling car sports an evolutionary rather than revolutionary design. The front grille is similar to that of the latest Focus, while the headlights look like softened and shrunken versions of the outgoing Fiesta’s.

The range is crowned, for now, by a new five-door ST-Line version, which also previews how the full ST model will look. It sits on 10-spoke alloy wheels and wears sporty bumpers and side skirts and appears slightly more toned down compared with the current-generation ST models.

By adding Active and luxurious Vignale versions of the new Fiesta, Ford will be able to cast its net into a far greater pool of potential buyers.

Overall dimensions look slightly larger than those of the outgoing Fiesta, supporting earlier information that the model will grow to offer more cabin space. Previous spy shots show that the car’s rear end will also introduce new horizontal tail-lights.

Our first look at the new Fiesta's interior reveals a radical departure from today's car. The most obvious new addition is a 'floating' infotainment interface which is much larger than the button-controlled screen in the current Fiesta.

So far Ford has been tight-lipped about the car's technical specifications, but a range of small-capacity turbocharged three and four-cylinder engines seems almost inevitable.

The Fiesta ST range-topper is likely to retain a boosted 1.6-litre engine but, like the other engines in the range, it'll produce more power than before along with lower emissions.

Other features on the car include Ford's SYNC 3 infotainment system, and a plush B&O PlaySound stereo.

Ford recently dropped the base models from the current Fiesta range following the arrival of the five-door Ka+. This trend will continue in the next-gen car, which will be moved slightly upmarket with a more premium cabin and a more mature appearance.

Speaking at tonight's unveiling, Ford of Europe President Jim Farley said the company had "over-delivered" on the promises made four years ago - at the first Ford Go Further event - to streamline its business in Europe and to create new products and technologies.

Take a closer look at the new Fiesta with our video, below.

Ford has taken the wraps off its new, seventh-generation Fiesta at a special event held in Cologne, Germany.

The brand revealed four production variants of its new B-segment hatchback: the Titanium, the sportily styled ST-Line, the upscale Vignale and even a crossover version dubbed the Active (which will likely compete with the Volkswagen Cross Polo).

However, Ford has chosen to keep its cards pretty close to its chest for the time being in terms of technical details. So, while we speculate that this model is larger than its predecessor, the brand has yet to reveal its exact dimensions.

But what we can glean from the first official images is that the hatchback’s styling has been somewhat softened, bringing it more in line with the current-generation Focus.

Inside what Ford calls the “ergonomic interior”, you’ll notice a floating high-definition touchscreen and the brand’s SYNC 3 infotainment system. The new Fiesta will also apparently be the first Ford to feature a “B&O PLAY” sound system.

Ford furthermore promises that the expanded Fiesta range will offer “more personalisation options to customers than ever before”.

And under the bonnet? Well, all Ford mentioned here was the fact that it has “defied industry expectations” to deliver cylinder deactivation technology in its 1,0‑litre EcoBoost petrol engine, “without sacrificing refinement”. The automaker says this technology can disengage or re-engage a cylinder in 14 milliseconds, leading to improved fuel efficiency.

Interestingly, the latest version of the popular supermini is based on the same Global B platform as its predecessor.

The Fiesta has been on the global market since 1976. The sixth-generation model arrived in South Africa in October 2008, while the ST-badged hot hatch followed in May 2013. The current local range comprises as many as ten derivatives.

At this stage, Ford has yet to reveal exactly when the new Fiesta will arrive in South Africa.

Ford unveiled no fewer than 4 versions of the next-generation Ford Fiesta at its #GoFurther event in Cologne, Germany. Although very little specification details were released, the newcomer (of which a production version will be released in Europe mid-2017) is expected to arrive in South Africa in early 2018.

The line-up showcased at the event included the 5-door Fiesta Titanium, the Ford Performance-inspired Fiesta ST-Line (not to be confused with the ST derivative, which is in the pipeline), the eye-catching Fiesta Vignale 3-door and the crossover-styled Fiesta Active, which is best described as a rival to the pre-facelift Volkswagen Polo's CrossPolo derivative.

Jim Farley, executive vice president and president, Europe Middle East and Africa, Ford Motor Company, was joined by Mark Fields, president and chief executive officer, Ford Motor Company, to unveil four new production versions of the next generation Fiesta to an audience of 2 500 dealers, employees and media at the company’s Cologne Niehl manufacturing facility – the home of Fiesta.

The next generation debuted with a spectacular unveil to music performed by the award-winning DJ Yoda assisted by a “YuMi” collaborative robot. Ford is among first auto makers to develop a new, closely integrated approach to car workers and collaborative robots working together on the assembly line. DJ Yoda and “YuMi” performed a setlist of tracks from 1976 onward in celebration of Fiesta’s 40th anniversary this year.

“Four years ago, at the first Go Further event, Ford promised a leaner, smarter business in Europe with great products and new technologies – and we’ve over-delivered through the talent, ingenuity and passion of our people,” Farley said.

Featuring an elegant exterior, and ergonomic interior that offers an 8‑inch floating high-definition touchscreen and Ford’s sophisticated SYNC3 communications and entertainment system, Fiesta also will be the first Ford to deliver a premium B&O PLAY Sound System.

Meanwhile, Ford powertrain engineers have defied industry expectations to deliver cylinder deactivation technology that will improve fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions for the multi-award-winning 1.0‑litre EcoBoost engine, without sacrificing refinement.

Ford’s compact and powerful 1.0-litre EcoBoost will be the first three-cylinder engine in the world to feature cylinder deactivation. The technology can disengage or re-engage the cylinder in 14 milliseconds – 20 times faster than the blink of an eye – and combined with advanced solutions to counteract vibrations, will be imperceptible to drivers in terms of operation and engine performance.

The expanded Fiesta range will offer more personalisation options to customers than ever before, and enhances the sporty, fun to drive character that has delighted generations of customers.

Not a fan - I don't think they could improve on the Mk7 design.

Is it really necessary to post multiple extracts of news articles that basically say the same thing?

And FiestaST, PLEASE for the love of whatever, is there REALLY not any other way of posting your photos? To make them a little bit smaller? If there are three or four photos in a row, like most of your posts, it is really so much effort to scroll down to the last one where the actual scrollbar is, to move them across the screen, then you have to scroll back up and down like mad. It is really a lot of effort and very inconvenient. There must be a way to post them differently?

if you actually read the articles you will see the content is not actually the same. Some articles/links give additional (relevant) information & some harp on other points.

Wrt the images I use Tapatalk on "Medium" setting..I would assume that is the best compromise?

When browsing on Tapatalk everything looks fine. On PC the images just points to a link.

If you can give relevant (constructive) feedback by all means I will take it into account :)

How do the other blokes feel?...comments indeed welcome...

If I'm honest I just look at the pictures :D

But I'm sure the car nuts will happily digest as much info as possible so post away.
