2017 Ford Kuga (2nd Gen Facelift - Non-explosive)

The 2.0 tdci looks like the option to have for this body size, I am assuming the 1.5 tdci might be a bit underpowered in a body of this size?

FORD VIGNALE TURNS THE KUGA INTO A LUXURY SUV

Ford Kuga not quite plush enough for your discerning tastes? Well, the automaker’s European arm is trying to change your mind with this: the newly revealed production version of the Ford Kuga Vignale.

The upscale version of the SUV will bolster the Ford Vignale product range when it goes on sale in Europe later this year, joining the already available Vignale-badged Mondeo (with the S-Max Vignale now available to order and the Edge Vignale to follow later in 2016).

Presented in pearlescent-metallic Vignale Milano Grigio paint with Cashmere leather interior trim, Ford promises each Kuga Vignale features “meticulous craftsmanship”. The paint colour is offset by dark gloss effect finishes for the front and rear skid-plates and boot trim, while a Vignale hexagonal grille design dominates the front end.

Inside, there’s hexagonal-quilted Windsor leather featuring what Ford calls “tuxedo-style” stitching, while yet more cows sacrificed their hide for the door trim and facia. A premium audio system and front and rear ambient lighting are also included.

Ford says each Kuga Vignale model will be “hand-finished by master craftspeople” at the Vignale Centre at Ford’s manufacturing facility in Valencia, Spain.

Engine options include the 1,5-litre EcoBoost and the 2,0-litre TDCi, each available in two states of tune. Six-speed manual and automatic transmissions are on offer, along with the option of all-wheel drive.

No word yet on pricing in Europe, but expect the Vignale model to command a significant premium over the standard range-topping Kuga. And don’t expect it to come to South Africa any time soon…

Ford Kuga ST-Line to get revised suspension and steering

The Ford Kuga ST-Line will go on sale later this year with Ford Performance-inspired styling and mildly altered driving dynamics as part of the new facelifted range.

Changes over the standard Kuga include new 18in or 19in alloys and sports seats, as well as chassis tweaks with tuned suspension and steering, thicker anti-roll bars and a 10mm lower ride height. European specs have been released, with UK details set to follow next week.

The chassis has stiffer suspension bushes from the Ford Focus, and the spring and damper rates have been altered to allow for "comfort and performance" according to Ford. Cosmetic changes include a new finish for the grille, black roof rails and privacy glass, as well as tinted front and rear lights.

Ford’s all-wheel-drive system is available, and most engines from its standard line-up are expected to be carried over for the UK model.

ST-Line versions of the Fiesta, Focus and Mondeo are already available, and a range-topping Ford Kuga Vignale model will also be offered later in the year.

Ford expects its SUV sales in Europe to grow by 2020. Currently, SUV sales account for 23% of total passenger car sales, but it’s aiming for 27% by the end of the decade.

It also predicts 200,000 sales of Ford Kuga, Ecosport and Edge in Europe in 2016; an increase of 200% from 2013.

Pricing for the facelifted Kuga range and ST-Line trim will be announced on Monday, with the new spec-level sitting in the mid to top-end of the Kuga range below Titanium and Vignale. The current Kuga is priced from £17,518 to £29,968.

Only saw this now; it's about time.

Slightly OT, a Ford dealer called me with their usual schtick - trade in your car for a new one. Now, I kind of own - it's still the bank's - a 2013 Ford Focus 2.0 TDCi, which they have discontinued. So I simply said no.

Surprised to see that they've kept the engine for the new Kuga, unless it's been improved and modified.
 
I'm pretty sure it has been improved, They discontinued the TDCI because it's old tech.
