2017 Jaguar F-Pace (incl SVR)

THE 2017 WORLD CAR OF THE YEAR HAS BEEN REVEALED

The Jaguar F-Pace has been named as the 2017 World Car of the Year, beating fellow finalists the Volkswagen Tiguan and Audi Q5 to the coveted title.

The announcement was made at the New York International Auto Show, with the F-Pace receiving the title from 2016 winner, the Mazda MX-5.

A jury of 75 international automotive journalists from 23 countries selected the finalists by secret ballot, before picking an overall car of the year as well as winners across five other categories.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class took home the 2017 World Luxury Car title, edging out the BMW 5 Series and Volvo S90/V90 twins. The World Performance Car gong went to the Porsche Boxster Cayman (over the Audi R8 Spyder and McLaren 570S), while the Jaguar F-Pace also snatched the World Car Design of the Year trophy, besting fellow finalists the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet and Toyota C-HR.

The World Green Car title went to the Toyota Prius Prime (over the Chevrolet Bolt and Tesla Model X), while the BMW i3 (in 94 Ah guise) triumphed in the World Urban Car category, beating the Citroën C3 and Suzuki Ignis to the honour.

Jaguar F-Pace wins 2017 World Car of the Year award

Brand’s fastest selling model also picks up award for World Car Design of the Year; it's the second car to do so, after the Mazda CX-5

The Jaguar F-Pace has won the 2017 World Car of the Year and World Car Design of the Year awards.

Jaguar’s fastest selling model was chosen as winner by 75 motoring journalists from 24 countries, and beat finalists the Mercedes E-Class, Porsche 718 Boxster/Cayman and BMW i3 - although the i3 picked up the World Urban Car award.

The Jaguar follows last year’s winner, the Mazda MX-5, as only the second car to win both headlining awards at the same time.

Ian Callum, director of design at Jaguar, said: “The F-Pace is our first ever SUV but it is clearly recognisable as a Jaguar and for it to win [these awards] vindicates our decision to bring our unique design principles and dynamic qualities to a new sector of the market.”

Jaguar Land Rover CEO Ralf Speth added: “Winning this award endorses the talent and great work of our teams that have delivered the world’s most practical sports car and Jaguar’s fastest-selling vehicle.”

In 2016, the model’s first year on sale, 122,460 F-Paces were sold. The model helped JLR sales surpass the half a million mark, representing a 13% growth on the year before.

570bhp Jaguar F-Pace SVR testing flat out at the Nurburgring - on video

British brand's hot SUV will go on sale in 2018; it will use the supercharged 5.0-litre V8 used in the Jaguar F-Type SVR

The Jaguar F-Pace SVR, a hot version of Jaguar’s first SUV model, has been spotted testing at the Nürburgring ahead of its anticipated reveal later this year.

A V8 engine note can be clearly heard, with the model borrowing its supercharged 5.0-litre block and eight-speed automatic gearbox from the Jaguar F-Type SVR. The F-Pace SVR will have up to 567bhp and 516lb ft on tap, and it's expected to have four-wheel drive.

The test car shows that Jaguar's production Porsche Macan Turbo rival will have an aggressive front spoiler, along with two huge air intakes either side of the front numberplate.

The model also gets larger diameter wheels and wider tyres to signify its extra potency. Other changes will include a titanium exhaust as well as tweaks to the suspension.

In the F-Type, the V8 engine propels the car to a top speed of 200mph, but it's highly unlikely that the F-Pace SUV will match that figure. A 0-62mph time of less than 4.0sec is probable, however, a time which would beat the Macan Turbo and its 4.4sec sprint. It's therefore possible that the F-Pace SVR will be the quickest mid-sized SUV on the market.

Jaguar adds new 221kW engine to XE, XF and F-Pace

• Trio of models with 221kW petrol engine
• New 2.0-litre four-cylinder units
• Powers XE, XF and F-PACE

Jaguar is introducing a new 221kW Ingenium petrol engine to the XE and XF sedans and F-Pace performance SUV models.

The 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine produces 400Nm of torque. The automaker claims the F-Pace will reach 0-100km/h in 6.0 seconds and deliver fuel economy of 7.7 litre/100km.

In the XF, Jag says the new engine will power the sedan from 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds.

For the XE sports sedan, the new engine delivers even more impressive figures. The 0-100km/h sprint takes only 5.7 seconds, while fuel economy of 6.7 litre/100km) and CO2 emissions of 153g/km, the automaker claims.

The new four-cylinder engine, badged P300, benefits from the latest Jaguar Land Rover engine technology, including twin-scroll turbos with ceramic ball bearings to reduce friction and a high flow compressor wheel for enhanced performance.

All three models use the ZF eight-speed automatic transmission.

The introduction of the powerful new engine is the latest in a series of enhancements to the XE, XF and F-Pace. Earlier this year, the range of advanced Ingenium engines expanded to include a 184kW version of the 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. A 177kW 2.0-litre four-cylinder twin turbo diesel was also introduced on the XF and the F-Pace.

Further updates for the 2018 model year derivatives include added convenience features such as a Gesture Boot Lid for the XF and XE, as well as configurable dynamics technology. This allows drivers to personalise the automatic gearbox, throttle and steering settings to suit their personal preference.

All three models also benefit from the very latest safety technologies including forward vehicle guidance and Forward Traffic Detection.

Jaguar Land Rover profits grow despite UK sales decrease

Global quarterly sales were up 3.5% on last year, but UK sales fell by 14%

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) sales continued to grow in the first quarter of 2017, totalling 137,463 units worldwide, which is 3.5% up on the same period of 2016.

Demand grew by 30% in China, helped by the success of the market-specific Jaguar XFL, which boosted XF sales by 22%. North American sales were the second most improved, with numbers up by 16%.

UK sales dropped by 14%, likely impacted by recent changes in Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) rates, which substantially increased rates due on cars costing more than £40,000. This sales decrease prevented an improvement on European sales compared with the first quarter of 2016.

Despite this, Coventry-based JLR’s first quarter revenue was up by 5% to £5.6 billion, with pre-tax profits totalling £595 million. Of this, £437m came from changes to the company’s pension plans, but JLR says that gain was offset by “the seasonality of sales in Q1 following a strong Q4 of 2016”, as well as launch and investment costs.

JLR CEO Ralf Speth said: "In challenging market conditions, we are continuing to plan for profitable, sustainable growth. Our teams have been hard at work creating world-class cars in an unprecedented level of launch activity for Jaguar Land Rover.”

JLR is planning on investing £4bn on new products, research and development and manufacturing in the coming years. It will launch the Jaguar I-Pace next year and is soon to open a new factory in Slovakia.

Arden Hands The Jaguar F-Pace Some Added Attitude

Currently, the hottest F-Pace offered by Jaguar is the 280 kW 35t S variant, which draws its urge from the British brand’s familiar supercharged 3,0-litre V6. For those who want a bit more oomph, German tuner Arden has provided a solution (that can be applied to most of the rest of the F-Pace range, too).

Visually, there are a couple of slight changes that have been made, including the addition of a new handcrafted stainless steel grille, a stainless steel exhaust system, a fresh front spoiler and a new rear bumper insert. To make the SUV appear wider still, the tuner has fitted spacers to the front and rear axles.

Changes to the interior are a bit more subtle. The steering wheel, for instance, has been reupholstered using leather and Alcantara, while the pedals have been upgraded to an aluminium set. A set of handcrafted floor mats and a new 13-speaker system complete the premium overhaul. As an option, however, the tuner will reupholster and trim much of the cabin with leather, Alcantara and carbon-fibre.

So, what about that extra oomph? Well, there are power upgrades for three engines in the range. The first of these is the 2,0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel 20d, which gains 26 kW and 70 N.m (for peak outputs of 159 kW and 500 N.m). Secondly, there is the 3,0-litre turbodiesel V6 30d, which is bumped up by 30 kW and 100 N.m of torque to 251 kW and 800 N.m.

Lastly, of course, is the aforementioned 35t, which has been hiked to 306 kW and 520 N.m of torque (up 26 kW and 70N.m). Arden also offers an active sound system that gives the F-Pace a note that’s apparently comparable to a V8. We’ll have to take their word for it

3 Reasons Why Jaguar F-Pace is #CarsAwards Finalist

What makes the Jaguar F-Pace 20d AWD R Sport a strong contender in the Executive SUV category of the 2017/18 Cars.co.za Consumer Awards – powered by WesBank? We investigate…

The Jaguar F-Pace has set new sales records and standards for the brand since its introduction in 2016. It's the first SUV built by Jaguar and its attractive styling and performance credentials have left a mark on consumers. This particular model also features the entry-level turbodiesel engine, but don’t think it’s underpowered as Jaguar Land Rover’s Ingenium engines continue to impress with power and torque delivery.

3 Reasons Why the Jaguar F-Pace 20d is #CarsAwards Finalist

1. Performance and economy

Powered by a 2.0-litre turbodiesel that’s good for 132 kW and 430 Nm of torque, the F-Pace delivers adequate surge and accelerates briskly with plenty mid-range overtaking grunt. The major drawcard of this 2.0-litre unit is the fuel consumption figure of just 5.3L/100 km that gives the F-Pace a theoretical range of 1 132 km.

2. Luxury and tech

As standard, the F-Pace 20d R Sport comes with most nice-to-have features fitted to create a sense of luxury. The perforated Taurus leather upholstery looks and smells “proper”, there’s keyless start, bi-zone climate control, a 380W Meridian sound system, auto lights/wipers, cruise control, front and rear park distance control and a rear-view camera. There are other worthwhile features on offer too such a waterproof Activity Key and the InControl Connect Pro pack with handy phone apps and useful navigation functions.

3. Sporty driving dynamics

The F-Pace is essentially a sports car that just happens to be a practical SUV and in our experience, it performs astoundingly well. It corners without body lean, which is counter-intuitive given its SUV heft. The barriers of grip are beyond that of the average large SUV and it’s probably the closest example of a sports car in an SUV body that we’ve sampled.

The F-Pace rides pristinely and Jaguar’s new suspension design has really improved the dynamism and comfort of its modern offerings. The F-Pace is composed on all surfaces, making it a confident car to drive.

Jaguar launches Black Edition models with extra kit

XE, XF and F-Pace Black Edition models get black-themed options, including painted alloys, privacy glass and styling kit

Jaguar has launched Black Edition models for the best-sellers of its range, the XE, XF and F-Pace, with optional extras included as standard.

Black Edition trim adds black alloy wheels, a Black Pack exterior styling kit, parking sensors and a reversing camera, privacy glass and metallic paint.

R-Sport models also get a heated front windscreen, heated washer jets and heated front and rear seats, features that are usually part of the optional Cold Climate Pack.

The F-Pace R-Sport Black Edition also features a panoramic roof. Jaguar claims this takes the F-Pace R-Sport Black Edition's savings to £2675 over a regular F-Pace R-Sport with the same options added.

Jaguar is offering the models as high-spec trim levels with reduced pricing; they are being offered at prices bolstered with half the value of the options fitted.

Confusingly, Black Edition cars are available not only in black, but also grey, red, white, and blue, with their name being a reference to the American tradition of 'Black Friday' discounting.

Although only available for a limited time, Black Edition models will remain on sale into 2018 and are not limited by number. There are no plans for an E-Pace Black Edition.

Jaguar is later to the Black Edition game than many, with Audi, Honda, KTM, Nissan, Peugeot, Porsche, Skoda, Vauxhall and Volkswagen all having dallied with such cars in the past.

During Jaguar's Black Event, which takes place between 24 and 26 November, boosted PCP finance contributions of £6500 and £12,088 are available on the F-Type and XJ, as well as up to £5300 on the XE, up to £6400 on the XF and up to £3500 on the F-Pace.
