Except it doesn’t seem like he actually drove that model and simply regurgitated the press release.

* Looks like real life fuel consumption to me that.

* Read the " What we do " part at the end of the article .

* I read somewhere on the site he uses press release photos as it is more convenient or something like that or whatever , can't remember.

GF got the 1.0 street a few weeks go. She got a sweet deal and got about R16k off the new price.

I'm not really a fan of these tiny cars (Aygo, i10, Kwid, Ignis, etc) but this Picanto is a decent little car, looks good inside and out and more roomy inside than I was expecting. Boot is just about good enough for grocery shopping and thats it.

Yes the what we do part is contradictory for that car.

The stats he is quoting is directly from the press release like everyone else and not true to real world.

How do I know? I own one.

Yes the boot is about the only thing that I would have liked to be bigger but actually sitting in the car it’s more than big enough.

Also would have liked a bigger tank to get more range out of it, but then that might have been counter productive and increased fuel economy.

Cars.co.za as well as Autotrader.co.za list that specific model's fuel consumption average as 5 l / 100km.

The review says the real life fuel consumption that was experienced is about 5.8 l / 100km.

Then they are both confused.

5.8 is literally the manufacturer’s claim for the combined cycle.

Real world average is more like 6.2-6.4.

5 you’ll only see momentarily while on a long open road at the speed limit but never over a whole tank.

Kia SA adds cheaper automatic derivative to Picanto line-up

Kia Motors South Africa has expanded its Picanto range with the addition of a new automatic version of the base derivative.

The arrival of the Picanto 1,0 Start Auto sees the line-up grow to 13 derivatives, five of which now feature self-shifting transmissions.

The Kia Picanto 1,0 Start Auto is priced at R158 495, undercutting the 1,2 Style Auto by some R15 000 to become the second-cheapest automatic passenger vehicle in the country (after the Renault Kwid 1,0 Dynamique AMT, which comes in at R149 900).

The new derivative is powered by the South Korean automaker’s familiar naturally aspirated 1,0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, which sends its 49 kW and 95 N.m to the front axle via a four-speed automatic gearbox.

The Start trim level on this model includes 13-inch steel wheels (wrapped in 155/80 R13 rubber), manual air-conditioning, a single (driver’s) airbag, a radio (with USB and Bluetooth functionality) and tilt adjustment for the steering column.

Note, however, that this model does without ABS and that while a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty comes standard, the two-year/45 000 km service plan is optional.

At the start of 2018, Kia Motors SA added a new range-topping 1,2 Smart Auto variant to its line-up.

Kia Picanto GT-Line S 1.0 T-GDi 2018 review

Should I buy one?

We’d understand if you took one look at the Picanto’s sticker price and let out a snort of derision. After all, it’s a full £1600 more than the similarly powerful and good to drive Up and even pricier than the five-door Up GTI.

The seriously impressive kit tally almost makes up for that (you couldn’t spec the Up to the same level even if you wanted to), although even the more reasonably priced GT Line version of the Picanto is hardly sparse. That would be the pick of the bunch for us unless a tempting monthly finance deal made upgrading to the S a no-brainer.

Whether or not the racy aesthetics and punchy engine of this flagship model are enough for the Picanto to shake off its rather anodyne image remains to be seen. But its spacious and well-made interior, punchy engine and sorted driving dynamics mean that, cost aside, this is a very capable city car.

Kia Picanto: Now with Standard Service Plan

Kia South Africa has announced that it'll be offering the compact Picanto with a service plan as standard.

We at Cars.co.za are quite fond of the Kia Picanto, but if there was one issue we had, it would be the service plan or lack thereof. Now Kia is offering a 2-year / 30 000 km service plan for its Picanto range as standard.

“With the new 2-year/30,000km service plan on all KIA Picanto models, customers not only know when to have their cars serviced but also benefits from the predictability of pricing over the plan’s duration,” says David Sieff, Marketing Director, KIA Motors South Africa. “Servicing costs are set for the duration of the plan, meaning customers won’t have to pay anything extra for parts or labour should there be a price increase while the service plan is active, which is a notable value add.”

Inexcusable from Kia, especially since even the revised & face-lifted versions of the Renault Kwid & Datsun Go now have ABS & EBD fitted as standard equipment right across their respective model ranges.

Agree
They need to address this ASAP, wonder if they will listen.
