2017 Kia Rio (4th Generation)

Okay, this Rio 1.2LS is R7k more expensive than a Mazda 1.5 Active
R15k more expensive than a Honda Jazz 1.2 Trend with 6 airbags.
R26k more expensive than a Suzuki Baleno 1.4GL.
R29k more expensive than a Peugeot 208 1.2 active.

Including the Clio that makes it five competitors which the Rio can't justify it's price against, surely we all agree that you should put something on the table to justify the price tag? and as mentioned there are some cars in the list that have way more features than the Rio. All the cars I have mentioned of decent build quality that can be compared to the Rio.

Maybe you should make a comparison table of those features and prices so we can have an objective view for your argument.

I will take the Kia over all those. Looks alone motivation for me. As an owner of a Clio, im pretty sure the Kia has better options and build quality hahahaaa. There just isnt a performance model

@thechamp I don't know what you are smoking.

Mazda 3 starts at R274,700.

That puts you at the Kia Rio 1.4 EX Manual or LX Auto for R 267 995 or R 269 995.

This car does not compete in the Suzuki Baleno bracket I feel.

Honda Jazz also really isn't in this bracket and it sits more towards the Civic bracket.

Peugeot 208 is more correct and there I can agree the similarly priced GT line at R276,000 is possibly a better deal feature wise but I'd never actually buy a french car because I'm not crazy. What you win short term you'll lose longterm. They have more poverty models in the range sure, but really nobody should be buying that.

Yeah I think in general he is comparing completely the wrong cars to one another.

And in fairness the Kia's often sit in between, but that's by and large because of their features sets on the premium models pushing them up in to the next class for less money, but also making them more expensive than much lesser cars in lower brackets.

It's not a once size fits all but definitely at the top or just below top tier models they generally win out in features and price over direct competition. And the "poverty" models as per his example are generally still bigger cars so that is a feature in itself where they win out.

Not meaning to say every model is perfectly price, but as a whole, the blank statement doesn't' apply.

I think I have made a fair argument, I have supported it with factual data, I doubt if anyone can dispute the prices as they are publicly available to everyone, The specs of the different models are freely available on different sites for everyone to make an informed decision, I think anyone is free to disregard the factual data and go with a purely emotional decision. I don't think I need to do anything more than I have already done.

Did I say anything about the Mazda 3? Let me check...

I like the Kia as well and I agree that it is a looker, that's why I never ever questioned it's looks.

No I did not, It's the Mazda 2 I am talking about and it starts at R226600, so I am not smoking weird stuff after all and whatever I am smoking is not clouding my judgement.

The Mazda 2 is way too small to compete with the Rio.

It’s closer to the Picanto which then blows its socks off come the top end models.

You didn’t specify a Mazda.

But the 3 is the only one that can be compared.

Sometimes it is difficult to compare directly. But in my eyes, the Mazda 3 has always been the Golf/Megane/Focus/Cerato competitor, and the Mazda 2 against the Polo/Clio/Fiesta/Rio. You cannot compare the Mazda 2 to the Picanto.

Fair enough but was it too much to assume that you'll follow from the post #151 I referred you to when we started this argument?

I am following on from that post.

Your “competitors” are incorrect and therefore your statement doesn’t work.

I fully agree that it’s difficult to compare and that’s why we find ourselves here.

The Rio has always fitted in slightly above those counterparts but below the others.

It’s always been a bit of an odd ball.

Mazda 2 is larger than the Picanto sure, but while we are at this argument depending on your needs a top of the range Picanto will cost you less and give you move features than the bottom end Mazda 2.

So is the Mazda 2 too expensive? Or is the Kia a better value proposition?

I think that Kia has always spaced themselves in such a way that they are just just above there own direct class and almost chasing the next one.

Hyundai similar but more conservative in that regard.

I specified Mazda 2 in that post, don't be unreasonable now, I thought we were having a meaningful discussion?

My bad you did specify it in that post.

It’s the next post where you dropped the 2 which is where I referenced from.

Ok, I am confused by the post above, why the #Bosasa?

And will there be a significant discount offered if the lady need to sell 8 cars....

Asking for a friend....:)
