"This is the face of the new Land Rover Discovery…

Teaser? What teaser? Land Rover has released the first official images of its new Discovery, which is due to make its world premiere at the end of September. And they reveal plenty.

Yes, rather than releasing an obscure close-up of a headlamp or an arty image of a side-mirror, the British automaker has decided to provide us with a full view of the fifth-generation SUV’s face. Refreshing in a world full of teaser shots, if you ask us.

The image shows that the new seven-seater Discovery has adopted the latest Land Rover family face, which means it shares basic styling cues with the likes of the Evoque, Discovery Sport and even the Range Rover.

And the brand promises that, despite the change in styling, the newcomer will be just as capable as its forebear.

“New Discovery redefines the large SUV. Land Rover’s design and engineering teams have revolutionised the Discovery DNA to create a highly desirable, extremely versatile and hugely capable premium SUV,” said Gerry McGovern, Land Rover’s Chief Design Officer.

Expect to learn more about the new Discovery on 28 September, ahead of the Paris Motor Show."

Land Rover's Discovery is taking a radical design shift and this is our first look at the fully redesigned second-generation model. Land Rover revealed the first official picture of its new mid-sized SUV ahead of its planned reveal at the Paris Motor Show on September 28.

Whereas its predecessors all have relatively boxy, squared off design, the new Discovery has a sleek and sporty look more reminiscent of the smaller Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque. Although we can only see the front end for now, you can expect the new 'big' Discovery to also resemble its siblings from the side and back.

No technical details have been released as yet, but it is widely believed that the new Disco will be built around the Range Rover's lightweight aluminium monocoque structure, which should push the price up somewhat.

As for engines, the range is likely to kick off with the most powerful version of Jaguar Land Rover's new 'Ingenium' 2-litre twin-turbo-diesel, recently introduced in the Rangie Sport with 177kW and 500Nm on tap. The company's 250kW supercharged V6 petrol is also a sure bet for the range.

It goes without saying that the new Disco will use the latest version of Land Rover's Terrain Response system for tackling rough and slippery surfaces and it's also likely that some Range Rover technologies, such as Low Traction Launch and Advanced Tow Assist (with autonomous steering for reversing).

Well...I for one like the current generation way more...but then I grew up with two Defenders on our farm so the boxy shape is what a serious SUV should look like...

Guess I'll have to dream about the Geländewagen from now on :p

Yea...To me that is the only legit 4x4 :cry:

Upside is now we have 3 on the farm. Bought a 2013 model. Brilliant vehicles. And no, no oil loss or transmission issues since 1996 (the two older ones), to all the land cruiser fanboys that we've had to help out of the sand over there. :D
 
The first official photograph of the all-new Land Rover Discovery has been released to the media and gives us a first look at this forthcoming product. The 2018 Land Rover Discovery will be officially unveiled at the 2016 Paris Motor Show later this month.
The Discovery has been one of Land Rover's bread and butter models and has achieved a fair degree of sales success since its launch way back in 1989. In 2015, the Discovery found 51 000 homes globally.

The third-generation Land Rover Discovery is due to be announced and Land Rover has releasedt a single image to tease us. What we know so far is that the new Discovery will feature a completely fresh look and will be a lighter and sharper vehicle compared to its predecessor. Expect technology from the flagship Range Rovers to trickle down into this new model and in terms of design, we can already see elements from the Discovery Sport and Evoque present. This new Land Rover Discovery will be going on sale internationally in early 2017 and we're likely to see it reach South African shores mid-2017.

But it looks like a Range Rover Sport! Just like The Disco Sport looks like an Evoque. Are Land Rover intentionally trying to canibalise their Range Rover sales? Because thats what will happen, why pay 900k + for a base model RR Sport as opposed to the same amount for fully specced Discovery?
 
You can't tell just from a front view. . . It could look amazing, it could also look like a pig.
