The new snazzy CX-4. Check that roofline

"The Mazda CX-4 further evolves Mazda's KODO design language, which focuses on expressing the power and vitality of a wild animal, while shaving away all but the essential design elements to produce a look of dignity and elegance. The exterior design is one that will turn heads, even on crowded city streets. It exudes an air of irresistible charm that fills the viewer with a desire to own and drive one. Once sitting in the driver's seat, all five senses immediately register the modern feel and rich feature set of the interior design. It aims to deliver Mazda's unique driving pleasure and a fresh sense of vitality to daily life. Overall, it represents a new level of car design inspired by thinking that goes beyond conventional notions of the class.

With "striking traction form" as its theme, the exterior design creates an expression of the car's inherent energy transforming into drive power, which is in turn transferred in sure and powerful fashion from the center of the body and accelerates out toward the tires.

Starting with the unique proportions of its large diameter tires and flowing profile of its compact cabin, the Mazda CX-4 achieves a form that conveys the powerful stance of having all four wheels firmly gripping the road and a low center of gravity, all while maintaining ample ground clearance. Body surfaces that express volume and flowing motion without relying on character lines create the appearance of fender highlights that flow towards the center of the tires. The end result is a look of great stability and powerful forward momentum that gives birth to a radical new look, including the sleek cabin that reminds the viewer of a sporty, stylish coupe.

Uncompromising effort was dedicated to crafting everything from the Signature Wing that runs from the front grille to the headlamps, the roof rails and aluminum wheels, to the smallest parts throughout. Each part has the lustrous look of machined metal and is highly detailed."

Trying to trick the masses into buying "station wagons". I love it. Somebody needs to teach people that station wagons are awesome again and SUV's are stupid unless they are big.

Looks like Mazda are really getting their act together and that looks seriously nice.

Mazda SA must first fix the Mazda 3 line up by offering Skyactiv is all models. Then they will be a great choice in all segments.

Pity Mazda is rather expensive. They are approaching German prices and let's be honest, they are not quite up to German luxury standard and their engines are by and large underpowered and non-turbo.

This looks really good. It'll be interesting to see at what price it lands. I'm literally finalizing the paperwork on a new CX-5 as I'm typing this, and I can honestly say, I would have been hard-pressed to make a decision between the CX-5 and this one.

I do, however, think the in-dash display of the CX-5 looks better. Another thing lacking, a nice to have, would have been an up/down shift on the steering wheel. The CX-5 doesn't have it, and from this I can't see it on here either.

Other than that, this looks freakin' awesome!

Seems like there are lots of CX-5 owners here on the forum.

Interesting as to this day I still don't see that many. ie. Not close to the numbers of Kuga/RAV5/CR-V models I see.

When did you last sit in one? My mate has a CX-5 and it's every bit as quality as the Germans. And virtually every conceivable feature comes as standard, whereas you'd probably pay close to R100k extra for them as options on the German cars. Anybody who still thinks that the Germans are still the benchmark will unfortunately be foolishly parted with their cash. They're just a rip off given what comes as standard, all for the sake of perceived build quality...

Yeah & a Mazda 5 MPS

There is talk of a Japanese company that is developing a MPS motor based on Skyactiv tech, havent heard much of it lately.

Report claims Mazda is readying 220kW 2.5-litre turbocharged 3 MPS with all-wheel drive

A Japanese report has claimed Mazda will produce a hot turbocharged 2.5-litre MPS version of Australia’s most popular small car – complete with all-wheel drive for the first time – within just two years.
The surprise news comes from Holiday Auto magazine, which quotes inside sources as saying a turbo version of Mazda’s largest four-cylinder SKYACTIV engine will be ready for release in the new Mazda3 MPS hot hatch in 2016.
While that timing would coincide with a midlife makeover for the third-generation Mazda3, launched in Australia early this year, a version of the turbocharged 2.5-litre MPS engine could also see duty in Mazda’s next CX-9.
The latter is expected to debut at the Los Angeles motor show in November and – along with the new MX-5, which will also be revealed this year – will mark the renewal of Mazda’s entire model range based on SKYACTIV body, chassis and engine technology.
As such, the new CX-9 will be lighter, which should negate the need for V6 power, even in the US. Mazda stopped developing V6 engines in the late 1990s and employs a Ford V6 in the current CX-9, but has indicated the new model will offer either straight-six or turbo-four power and will again eschew a diesel engine.
A 2.5-litre turbo-four could provide the answer not only for the Mazda3 MPS and CX-9 but, potentially, a new-generation Mazda6 MPS.
