I had VW's most of my life. And I must be the most anti VW.
Hate the direction they went. Golf 1 GTI was a cheap pocket rocket. Now GTI is a nothing more than a over expensive ps4 game.
And you can sell DSG anyway you like its just a automatic. Automatic box should not be in a drivers car.
Some prefer the dsg some love manual and vw cut the manual box. Willing to bet when the new one comes around they will go back to a manual option.

To be fair the cutting of stick shift was a VWSA decision not VW AG.

We wait and see what they decide to bring in come G8 (GTI) time.

Wait wait wait, let's put this into perspective. What did a brand new MK1 GTI cost and what did a (let's use a) BMW E21 / E30 320 cost ?

To your answer your 2 questions bruv:

M240i Coupe auto starts from R681k (base).

Golf R has a 3-years/120 000 km warranty and 5-years/90 000 km service plan.

I'd spend the extra 40 odd k to get the m240i over the golf r anyday...

Go spec a m240i to that of a R , come back with a price.

On top of that, the R is an awesome and fun drive.

Lastly, BMW 1 and 2 series are for girls ...

You go spec it if you that defensive :)

M240i is even more fun and awesome to drive.

And my girly car will spank your R any day ;)

This is going to end up in a splinter/adamr discussion all over again.

lol. I like the 2 series, but would still take the R

:)

yet to meet a R that can stay with my cabby

rofl, you think drag racing / TLGP is real racing ?

Meet me on a racetrack i'll naai you with my Toyota Etios. :D

Ha ha ha well tlgp or track or gymkhana just say when :D

Why don't you join the Michelin cup next year. We can settle this :)

I see a dark blue R quite often in Pretoria. Seriously fast big flames on gear changes and possibly a different turbo as the car must have a screamer with external waste. its loud.

You can get a M240i with 8%+ discount without much haggling. VW dealers are not discounting the Golf R nearly as much, so the cost is around even. M240i sounds much better too.

Hey, it does boil down to personal preference a lot when it comes to this category/price range.

But, as I have said before, I test drove both (and others) before making my choice. Just interested in how many others with their opinions have done so (excluding adamr of course :D )

Yep. You can get even more if you are not "desperate" to get the car. And sadly, the B58 engine in the M240i apparently does sound a lot better than the N55 engine in my M235i :(

Edit: as well as being somewhat more powerful
