Teaser image is out. New baby Jaaaag will be positioned below the F-Pace.

It’s official: Jaguar to launch new E-Pace baby SUV!

Jaguar has released a teaser image of its upcoming compact SUV, confirming that the newcomer will be called the E-Pace.

Set to be fully revealed on July 13, the new performance SUV will slot into the British automaker’s line-up below the F-Pace, and will take aim at the likes of the BMW X1. A production version of the all-electric I-Pace concept, meanwhile, is expected to join the range later in 2018.

Although details are still thin, Jaguar says the E-Pace will feature “sportscar-derived AWD technology” and an all-Ingenium range of petrol and diesel engines, as well as a “suite of connected technology and safety features”.

The teaser image suggests that the rear styling won’t stray too far from that of the F-Pace.

“The combination of sportscar looks with Jaguar performance will ensure that the E-Pace stands out,” promised Ian Callum, director of design at Jaguar.

“Every Jaguar is designed to excite the senses, and we think E-Pace will do just that, albeit with its own individual character.”

New small SUV is tipped to become Jaguar’s best-seller, upstaging even the F-Pace

Jaguar will kickstart its biggest assault on the global car market yet when it reveals the hotly anticipated E-Pace, its second SUV, on 13 July.

The E-Pace is arriving at a time when Jaguar is enjoying a significant upswing in sales. In April the company reported an 83% increase in global sales for the year 2016/17, with the introduction of the F-Pace providing a huge boost. The smaller E-Pace, which will go head to head with the BMW X1 and Audi Q3, is expected to surpass its sibling’s success.

The size of the market is considerable: year-on-year sales of the X1 increased by 47% in the first five months of this year, with 113,367 examples being sold. During 2016, Audi produced more than 230,000 examples of the Q3.

The E-Pace, which is set to be priced at less than £30,000, sits on the same LR-MS steel platform as the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque. As such, it’ll be offered with either front or four-wheel drive and a choice of either a six-speed manual or eight-speed auto gearbox.

Power comes from 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol and diesel Ingenium engines, including 161bhp and 178bhp diesels.

Higher up the range will be a 237bhp 2.0-litre diesel and a 247bhp 2.0-litre petrol. The E-Pace could also be the first model to receive Jaguar’s new hybrid powertrain. It would most likely be based on a mild hybrid system that would be shared with the Evoque and Discovery Sport. The ‘MHEV’ system will combine a battery-powered electric drive motor and a three-cylinder 1.5-litre Ingenium diesel engine.

Jaguar promises the E-Pace will be imbued with the company’s trademark handling traits, suggesting it’ll follow the lead of the F-Pace and be positioned as the driver’s choice in its market segment.

Jaguar’s director of design, Ian Callum, said: “The combination of sports car looks with Jaguar performance will ensure that the E-Pace stands out. Every Jaguar is designed to excite the senses, and we think E-Pace will do just that.”

Jaguar Confirms E-Pace Compact SUV

After months of speculation and teaser images, Jaguar has officially confirmed production of a compact performance SUV, which will be called the Jaguar E-Pace.

On the back of the successful Jaguar F-Pace comes a smaller performance compact SUV. The new E-Pace will slot in below the F-Pace and will be followed by the all-electric I-Pace in 2018. Jaguar is going all out with its SUV range and given the popularity of luxury SUVs, the E-Pace will surely be a success. It's interesting to note that the Jaguar F-Pace boosted the brand's sales by 83%, so a smaller and more affordable luxury SUV offering is definitely going to make sound business sense.

Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar, said: “The combination of sports car looks with Jaguar performance will ensure that the E-Pace stands out. Every Jaguar is designed to excite the senses, and we think E-Pace will do just that, albeit with its own individual character.” While we haven't seen the full car in its entirety yet, some details have been released ahead of its world reveal on the 13th July 2017.

We know that it will feature all-wheel drive technology and will be powered by an all-Ingenium line-up of petrol and diesel engines. It'll feature a range of connected technology and safety features, and Jaguar has said that the E-Pace will have indicative pricing from £28,500 in the United Kingdom. That translates directly to R471 231.84 using the exchange rate on 21 June 2017. Based on import duty and estimates, we predict that pricing for the new Jaguar E-Pace will start from R550 000. We'll have more details after the reveal next month, so stay tuned!

Jaguar E-Pace shown in new test images

British firm reveals details of development programme for new SUV; car to be unveiled next week

Jaguar has revealed new photos of the new E-Pace and details of the SUV’s extensive test and development process, ahead of its launch next week.

The British firm says it has built more than 150 prototypes during a 25-month test programme for the car, which sits on the same LR-MS platform as the Land Rover Discovery Sport. The test programme involved more than 120,000 hours of running across four continents.

The test programme has included more than 400 laps of the Nurburging Nordschleife in Germany, along with extensive running on the Nardo Ring high-speed test track in Italy. The E-Pace has also been run in the Arctic Circle, the Middle East and China. One of the pictures released by Jaguar also shows the E-Pace running at the Walter Arena off-road complex in south Wales.

One of the most extreme challenges undertaken by the E-Pace occurred at Jaguar Land Rover’s Gaydon base: a wading test that involved driving the machine was into a 0.5-metre deep pool of water. Jaguar says that all the doors were left open and the car left for an hour, before the engine was restarted and the car driven out.

The E-Pace will be launched at 20.00 on Thursday 13 July. We’ll have full news from the launch on here on autocar.co.uk.

New SA-bound E-Pace: Jaguar's testing gives us a better look of its new SUV

From the freezing Arctic Circle to the dust and heat of Dubai, Jaguar claims its E-Pace has been subjected to a diverse testing programme.

Part of the programme included repeated laps at the Nurburgring.

Headed for SA

These tests, says Jaguar, is to ensure that the E-Pace performs on all surfaces and conditions.

Jaguar South Africa has confirmed to Wheels24 that its baby SUV will be available in 2018.

Facts and figures from E-PACE’s test programme:

• Coldest temperature: -40°C
• Hottest temperature: +48°C
• More than 400 laps of the Nurburgring
• 1.5km above sea level during altitude testing
• In excess of 120 000 hours of testing involving more than 500 engineers

150 prototypes

More than 150 prototypes were built during a gruelling 25-month test programme that took place across four continents to ensure not only extreme durability but that the vehicle lives up to the automaker's Art of Performance philosophy.

From the demanding Nurburgring circuit and high-speed Nardò test track to the deserts of the Middle East, Jaguar claims the E-Pace has proved itself in the world’s most challenging environments.

Jaguar’s engineers braved the -40C temperature of the Arctic Circle and the high altitudes and rivers of China’s most remote provinces to ensure E-PACE can withstand a lifetime of use in the hands of the most active and demanding customers.

Graham Wilkins, Chief product engineer, Jaguar E-Pace, said: "Our team of world class engineers and dynamics specialists have meticulously tuned and developed a true Jaguar.

"Months of intense testing on roads and tracks around the world have delivered a compact performance SUV that is true to Jaguar’s performance DNA.”

Jaguar’s new compact performance SUV will face its final test in a world premiere that will be aired on Facebook and YouTube on Thursday July 13.

E-Pace will be first Jaguar not built in UK

Jaguar is expected to build a global model exclusively outside of the UK for the first time ever.

The Jaguar ‘baby’ E-Pace will be unveiled on Thursday. It is a compact SUV that will cost from £28 500 (R490 000) and will be manufactured at factories in China and Austria.

Britain’s biggest carmaker already builds vehicles abroad at plants in China, Brazil and India, but no model is solely produced abroad.

It is constructing a new plant at Nitra in Slovakia, its first European factory outside the UK, to build 150 000 vehicles a year. When the wraps come off the E-Pace officially on Thursday, bosses are expected to stress that the move to build the model only abroad is a positive sign of the expanding UK firm’s success at conquering global markets.

They will insist the decision gets around the issue of its existing UK factories "bursting at the seams".

It also means the UK car firm can avoid paying punitive import duties on the car which bosses expect to be a massive seller – and potentially the biggest-selling Jaguar.

JLR declined to comment on its plans ahead of Thursday's announcement.

Jaguar E-Pace baby SUV to be revealed fully tonight

Small SUV is tipped to become Jaguar’s best-seller, upstaging even the F-Pace; it'll get softer styling. Catch it at 8pm for full details and pictures

Jaguar will kickstart its biggest assault on the global car market yet when it reveals the hotly anticipated E-Pace, its second SUV, this evening at 8pm.

The E-Pace, which Jaguar has confirmed will be priced at less than £28,500 - a little less than the Audi Q3 but exactly the same as the BMW X1 - sits on the same LR-MS steel platform as the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque. As such, it’ll be offered with either front or four-wheel drive and a choice of either a six-speed manual or eight-speed auto gearbox.

Power comes from 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol and diesel Ingenium engines, including 161bhp and 178bhp diesels.

2018 Jaguar E-Pace officially revealed: release date, price and interior

Hot on the heels of the F-Pace, the compact SUV will take on rivals such as the BMW X1 and Audi Q3

These are the first official pictures of the new Jaguar E-Pace, which will go on sale later this year.

The second SUV to come from Jaguar in as many years will be followed by a third, the all-electric I-Pace, within months.

Poised to rival the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3, the E-Pace is expected to become Jaguar’s biggest-selling model and result in the fast-growing firm selling more SUVs than saloon and sports cars combined.

The E-Pace is smaller and more keenly priced than the F-Pace. Its design, one of the most expressive in its class, is very distinct from that of the larger F-Pace and will be, along with its dynamic ability, among the car’s key selling features.

But despite pushing the styling and dynamics of the E-Pace, Jaguar says the model gives nothing away to its competitors in terms of practicality and usability.

“At Jaguar, we have to do more than anyone else to prove that we’re good on the attributes that we weren’t in the past,” said design chief Ian Callum.

The small SUV is derived from the D8 architecture used to underpin the Land Rover Discovery Sport. However, updates to the on-road dynamics have created what Graham Wilkins, the E-Pace’s chief engineer, describes as a “Jaguar version” of the Discovery Sport.

The five-door, five-seater will be built under licence by Magna Steyr in Austria, rather than alongside the other transverse-engined cars in the Jaguar Land Rover range: the Discovery Sport and its Range Rover Evoque sibling.

The plant at Halewood that builds the Land Rover pair is at capacity, with no room to produce the expected six-figure annual production run of the E-Pace.

Magna will bring back a steel-bodied, transversed-engined, front-wheel-drive Jaguar to the range for the first time since the X-Type.

2018 Jaguar E-Pace Specifications

Front-wheel drive will only be offered on the entry-level 148bhp 2.0-litre diesel model with a six-speed manual gearbox, however. The rest of the range will come with all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic gearbox.

An all-wheel-drive version of the 148bhp diesel will be the only other model offered with a manual ’box.

“The front-wheel drive model is still fun to drive, as the access model to the car and the Jaguar brand,” said Wilkins.

Jaguar Land Rover’s full range of turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and diesel Ingenium engines will be offered in the E-Pace, including a range-topping 296bhp 2.0-litre petrol version. This engine helps propel the E-Pace from 0-60mph in 5.9 seconds and to a top speed of 151mph.

Audi’s 362bhp RS Q3 Performance is the most potent in a class of cars generally not focused on dynamic ability. Although the top E-Pace does not match those outputs, Jaguar is talking up the dynamic ability of the range as a whole.

Wilkins said that being natively front-wheel drive was no barrier to the E-Pace handling how Jaguar thinks its cars should. “If we do a car like this, it needs to drive how it looks,” he said.

“We needed no excuses. We chose an architecture that could do the looks and the drive with all the changes we’ve made, and there’s a 300PS [296bhp] petrol version. There’s no excuse.”

The E-Pace has MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension, and Jaguar has tuned the chassis, along with the four-wheel-drive control system and Adaptive Dynamics dampers, for a sporty on-road drive. To that end, the camber has also been changed on the front axle and there is a semi-solid mounting for the front sub-frame for a more connected steering feel.

“It has a high driving position and great all-wheel drive, but it drives like a Jaguar,” said Wilkins. Alongside standard all-wheel-drive, top-of-the range diesel and petrol models have Active Driveline all-wheel-drive. Wilkins explained: “The Active Driveline system and the torque bias make it feel rear-wheel drive. It’s tuned to feel fun and energy like in a rear-wheel-drive car. It has all-wheel-drive capability, but it drives like a Jaguar.”

The car, which weighs 1700kg, is much heavier than its main competitors. Jaguar counters by saying that its D8 architecture has authentic SUV capability, unlike that of its road-biased rivals. The use of high-strength steel in the structure helps to reduce the weight, says Wilkins, while aluminium is used for the boot lid, bonnet and fenders.

The E-Pace is 4345mm long, 1984mm wide and 1649mm high, with a wheelbase of 2681mm. This makes it one of the shorter cars in its class (the X1 is 4439mm long and the Q5 4388mm) but boot space is above average among its peers at 480 litres. That is 25 litres down on the X1 but 60 litres up on the Q3.

The extent of the front overhang is disguised by clever design tricks such as the chamfering of the front corners and the long horizontal front headlights. The E-Pace has a roofline and a side swage inspired by that of the F-Type. “It’s sporty and tough looking,” said Callum.

The F-Type influence is also felt in some of the details at the front and rear, particularly at the front, where Callum describes the E-Pace as “unashamedly F-Type”. At the rear, there are large LED lights with a ‘chicane’ graphic. Alloy wheels up to 21in in diameter are offered; the standard size wheel is 17in.

New Jaguar E-Pace Interior

For the interior of the car, Jaguar has made the front cabin driver-focused. The low grab rail from the F-Type has made it in, along with a stick shifter for the automatic gearbox rather than a rotary controller. “We wanted sporty, so we took inspiration from the F-Type,” said Callum.

“We also worked hard on the interior perceived quality, with the right use of metals and materials.”

There is the staple SUV raised driving position up front; while, in the back, Jaguar is claiming kneeroom closer to an Audi Q5 than a Q3. There is also plenty of storage and cubby holes, with practicality a selling point Jaguar wants to push. The rear seats fold to create a total capacity of 1234 litres.

“The important thing – the raison d’être – is practicality,” said Callum. “We worked hard on storage like never before. We’ve embraced it and worked hard on it, as we were not known for it before. Now it’s class-leading. There’s lots of space in the car and it has a stylish exterior. It’s a very usable car.”

A large amount of infotainment and connectivity functions have been fitted to the E-Pace in an attempt to attract younger buyers.

A 10in touchscreen housing the firm’s InControl Touch Pro system is offered as standard alongside three rotary controllers. Talking about the rotary controls, Callum explained that he is a “great believer in tactical controls with that mechanic feel”. He added: “It’s not quite right for Jag [to only have touchscreens].”

There driver’s instrument binnacle contains an optional widescreen TFT display to house information including navigation. There is a 4G wifi hotspot to connect up to eight devices, five USB charging ports and the option of a wearable key, as seen on the F-Pace.

“The car is fully connected,” said Wilkins. “It’s important to offer this to the customer as the car will be on sale for a while, and this is all now necessary technology.”

Callum has ruled out Jaguar creating an even more rakish three-door version of the E-Pace, claiming that there is no market demand for it. There is a three-door version of the Evoque, made by Land Rover, but sales volumes are tiny compared with the five-door model.

Jaguar E-Pace Release Date

The E-Pace will go on sale in the UK in late 2017, with the first deliveries due around the end of the year. Prices are set to start from £28,500, making it the entry point to the Jaguar range.

The UK and Europe will get first dibs on the car, with production starting in China a year later. Cars made in China will be for the home market.

Jaguar E-Pace launch marked with record-breaking barrel roll

Stunt driver Terry Grant rolled the E-Pace to a world record with a 15.3 metre, 270-degree barrel roll

The new Jaguar E-Pace has rotated its way into the record books with a 270-degree, 15.3-metre flying barrel roll.

The stunt took place at the Excel centre in London, taking a 160 metre long run up to build up speed for the 15 metre jump. Stunt driver Terry Grant was behind the wheel for the trick, which was verified by Guinness World Records.

The stunt took inspiration from the famous barrel roll that takes place in James Bond film The Man With The Golden Gun. The E-pace was launched off a metal ramp one side, with a softer dirt bank on the other side cushioning the car’s landing. Both ramps were computer designed, and the precise launch speed calculated to ensure both the car and Grant survived intact.

The car and driver set the record for the furthest barrel roll completed in a production vehicle, and months of testing was completed in order for the jump to run smoothly.

Grant was also behind the wheel for Jaguar’s last world record stunt: a 19.08-metre-high loop the loop completed at the launch of the Jaguar F-Pace in 2015. That set the record as the tallest loop the loop completed in a production car. During that stunt, Grant experienced 6.5G, compared with the 5.5G he experienced during the barrel roll.

Speaking about his new record, Grant said: “As far as I am aware no production car has ever cleanly completed a bona-fide barrel roll and therefore it has always been an ambition of mine to perform one ever since I was a boy. After driving the Jaguar F-Pace in the record-breaking loop-the-loop, it has been amazing to help launch the next chapter of the Pace family in an even more dramatic dynamic feat.”

The E-Pace and F-Pace are expected to be joined by the all-electric I-Pace and a larger seven-seat SUV in coming years, and it seems likely both lunahced will be marked with a similar vehicular stunt. Any ideas for what Jaguar should do next? Let us know in the comments below...

Jaguar E-Pace

The Jaguar E-Pace is a five-seat compact SUV that packs the design and performance of a Jaguar sports car into a spacious, practical and connected all-wheel-drive vehicle.

The E-Pace is the newest member of Jaguar's SUV family following Jaguar's first all-electric SUV, the I-Pace Concept and the World Car of the Year-winning F-Pace performance SUV.

The exterior design is inspired by the F-Type sports car and is characterised by the distinctive Jaguar grille, muscular proportions, short overhangs and powerful haunches. Optional 21-inch alloy wheels give the E-Pace a bold and purposeful stance, instantly communicating dynamic agility. Jaguar sports car DNA is also evident in the fast sweep of the roofline and the distinctive side window graphic.

The E-Pace will be one of the most connected and intelligent vehicles in its class. The next-generation touchscreen infotainment system connects customers to their favourite apps, such as Spotify through Jaguar Land Rover's InControl apps.

Digital connectivity can be found throughout the cabin, ready for every need of the modern family. There are up to four 12-volt charging points and five USB connections as well as a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot for up to eight devices.

The Jaguar E-Pace has exceptional interior space for a vehicle in this class. The compact SUV is 4,395mm long with short front and rear overhangs of 882mm and 832mm respectively. Its 2,681mm wheelbase seats five in absolute comfort and yields a generous rear legroom of 892mm while the large luggage capacity of 577 litres is made possible by the vehicle's sophisticated Integral Link rear suspension architecture.

New chassis hardware developed for the Jaguar E-Pace maximises interior space while also providing the strong foundations for the vehicle's impressive all-surface dynamic capabilities. The Integral Link rear suspension layout has allowed Jaguar's engineers to deliver the responsiveness and agility required without compromising ride comfort.

Configurable Dynamics gives the driver even more control with individual settings for the throttle, automatic transmission, steering and, where fitted, the Adaptive Dynamics suspension system. The Adaptive Dynamics set-up senses driver input, body and wheel movements and pre-emptively loads the suspension and chassis and adjusts the damping for improved roll control and agility in all conditions. As a result, the E-Pace delivers all the space young families need with all the character of a true Jaguar sports car.

Under the bonnet, E-Pace features a choice of efficient yet powerful Ingenium petrol and diesel engines. The 300PS Ingenium petrol turbo engine powers E-Pace from 0-60mph in just 5.9 seconds (6.4 seconds for the 0-100km/h sprint) before reaching an electronically-limited top speed of 151mph. For customers who want the ultimate efficiency, the front-wheel drive 150PS Ingenium diesel delivers CO2 emissions of 124g/km.

The E-Pace's Active Driveline all-wheel drive system is a technological first for Jaguar. The intelligent set-up combines phenomenal traction with Jaguar's unmistakable rear-wheel-drive character. The system's torque-biasing capability delivers optimal stability, dynamics and fuel efficiency in all conditions.

The Jaguar E-Pace features the very latest safety and driver assistance technologies. A stereo camera underpins the advanced Emergency Braking system, which also provides pedestrian detection, and supports Lane Keep Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition, as well as the Adaptive Speed Limiter, and Driver Condition Monitor features. Front and Rear Parking Aids are standard on every vehicle providing peace of mind during difficult manoeuvres.

The camera also combines with the electric power assisted steering system to deliver a Blind Spot Assist function to help reduce the risk of sideswipe collisions on multi-lane roads. A new Forward Traffic Detection system also warns drivers of approaching vehicles at junctions where visibility is restricted. Advanced active safety features include a pedestrian airbag, which deploys from beneath the trailing edge of the bonnet to enhance pedestrian protection in the event of a collision.

The E-Pace is the first Jaguar to feature the company's next-generation Thin-Film Transistor (TFT) Head-Up Display technology. The advanced display can project up to 66 per cent more information onto the windscreen using large, full-colour graphics with enhanced clarity. Essential information including vehicle speed and navigation directions are in full view at all times, with alerts and updates for the infotainment, safety and convenience features all projected directly into the driver's eyeline - reducing the need to look away from the road.

Every Jaguar E-Pace features the latest generation of Jaguar's Touch Pro infotainment system. Natural voice control technology, a 10-inch touchscreen interface and a customisable home screen make interactions with the system quick, simple and highly intuitive.

An optional 12.3-inch full colour digital TFT instrument panel and choice of two premium audio systems developed with Meridian ensure E-Pace offers the technology and connectivity that customers crave.

The Jaguar E-Pace is also available with an innovative wearable Activity Key. The waterproof and shockproof wristband has an integrated RFDI transponder, allowing the driver to lock the main key inside the vehicle when enjoying activities such as running, swimming or cycling.

Whenever the Activity Key is activated, by holding the wristband up to the upper edge of the number plate surround on the tailgate, any conventional key fobs left inside the vehicle are disabled.

The strong chassis also allows owners to tow up to 1,800kg (braked), ideal for customers who use their E-Pace for both business and pleasure.

New Jaguar E-PACE | GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ Barrel Roll

"The New Jaguar E-PACE has set an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title during its world premiere in London. Leaping into the record books, Jaguar's compact performance SUV achieved a epic 15.3 metre-long jump, complete with a 270-degree corkscrew-like ‘barrel roll’. Behind the wheel was legendary British stunt driver Terry Grant."

Some car manufacturers use motor shows to launch their cars, and some favour intimate events full of influencers and celebrities who can drum up some #hype. Jaguar decided to take a different approach for the E-Pace, which was launched – literally – with the world's longest barrel roll for a production vehicle.

Although it's the smallest SUV in the Jaguar lineup, there was nothing small about the jump performed by the E-Pace to claim a Guinness World Record. The gap between takeoff and landing was a whopping 15.3 m (50 ft) and the car performed a 270-degree barrel roll in the air as it covered that distance. Suffice to say, the footage is seriously impressive.

"As far as I am aware no production car has ever cleanly completed a bona-fide barrel roll and therefore it has always been an ambition of mine to perform one ever since I was a boy," says driver Terry Grant. "After driving the Jaguar F-Pace in the record-breaking loop-the-loop, it has been amazing to help launch the next chapter of the Pace family in an even more dramatic dynamic feat."

New SA-bound Jaguar E-Pace SUV: The details

The new Jaguar E-Pace has been officially unveiled to the world at an event in England.

The automaker says its latest model is a five-seat, compact SUV that "packs the design and performance of a sports car into a spacious, practical and connected all-wheel-drive vehicle".

The E-Pace will be available in South Africa in 2018, and is set to take on the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3.

Range

The E-Pace and R-Dynamic models are available with Standard, S, SE and HSE specification packs and a choice of five engines: three diesel and two petrol engines. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium diesel powerplant is available in 110kW, 132kW and 177kW.

The 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol turbo units deliver 183kW or 221kW. All models are fitted with a ZF nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

SA engines and specifications will be confirmed closer to its launch date.

Connected

A 25cm touchscreen comes as standard and connects customers to their favourite apps says Jaguar. Jaguar Land Rover’s (JLR) InControl system allows you to keep the vehicle secure by tracking it on your smartphone, automatically alerts the emergency services in case of an accident and allows you to check fuel levels and mileage remotely via a smartphone or smartwatch.

Customers can warm up the car, cool it down and even start it remotely using InControl.

There are up to four 12-volt charging points and five USB connections as well as a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot for up to eight devices.

Configurable Dynamics gives the driver even more control with individual settings for the throttle, automatic transmission, steering, and, where fitted, the Adaptive Dynamics suspension system.

Jaguar says their Adaptive Dynamics system can sense driver input, body and wheel movements and pre-emptively loads the suspension and chassis and adjusts the damping.

All-wheel drive

The E-Pace is fitted with a active driveline all-wheel-drive system, a technological first according to Jaguar. The intelligent set-up combines phenomenal traction with Jaguar’s unmistakable rear-wheel-drive character.

Safety features include a stereo camera that underpins an autonomous emergency braking system, which also provides pedestrian detection and supports lane keep assist and traffic sign recognition, as well as the Intelligent Speed Limiter and Driver Condition Monitor systems. Front and rear parking aids are standard.

The E-Pace debuts the automaker's next-generation head-up display technology, which according to the automaker can project up to 66% more information onto the windscreen using large, full-colour graphics.

An optional 31cm full colour digital instrument panel and choice of two premium audio systems developed with Meridian put the E-PACE on a par with vehicles from the class above when it comes to interior technology.

New Jaguar E-Pace compact SUV finally unveiled...

Jaguar has officially revealed its new E-Pace, positioning the latest performance SUV below the F-Pace. The new model is scheduled to arrive in South Africa in early 2018.

Set to take on the likes of the BMW X1 and Audi Q3, the Jaguar E-Pace will be produced in Austria for global markets. Additionally, the British automaker says the newcomer will be built exclusively for the Chinese market at Chery Jaguar Land Rover’s plant in Changshu.

Selected variants will employ a new “intelligent” all-wheel-drive system that Jaguar promises “combines phenomenal traction” with “unmistakable rear-wheel-drive character”.

The compact SUV – which features an integral link rear suspension setup – measures 4 395 mm long and employs a wheelbase of 2 681 mm. Jaguar claims a luggage capacity of 577 litres. From what we understand, the E-Pace shares its platform with the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque (rather than with its larger F-Pace sibling).

The new E-Pace will be available with Jaguar’s full range of Ingenium petrol and diesel engines. The brand says the 220 kW turbocharged petrol engine will see the E-Pace hit 100 km/h from standstill in 6,4 seconds, before topping out at an electronically limited 243 km/h. At the other end of the scale, the front-wheel-drive 110 kW diesel derivative will deliver claimed CO2 emissions of just 124 g/km.

In total, the E-Pace will be available with a choice of five powertrains (three diesel and two petrol). The 2,0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium diesel is available in 110 kW/380 N.m, 132 kW/430 N.m and 177 kW/500 N.m outputs, while the pair of 2,0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol turbo units will deliver 183 kW/365 N.m or the aforementioned 220 kW/400 N.m.

A nine-speed automatic transmission from ZF will be available across the range, although the two lower-powered diesel engines will come standard with a new six-speed manual transmission.

Jaguar says the new five-seater will be “one of the most connected and intelligent vehicles in its class”, featuring a next-generation touchscreen infotainment system, up to four 12-volt charging points and five USB connections as well as a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot for up to eight devices. It will also come with the brand’s wearable “Activity Key”.

The E-Pace is also the first Jaguar to feature the firm’s next-generation TFT head-up display technology. In addition, a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system will be standard, while a 12,3-inch full colour digital TFT instrument panel will be offered as an option.

The top-spec R-Dynamic model, meanwhile, will add items such as front sports seats, stainless steel treadplates, gearshift paddles, body-coloured wheel-arch surrounds and exclusive trim inside and out.
