2018 Opel Corsa spied testing

The sixth-generation Opel Corsa has been spied in Europe ahead of its rumoured launch in 2018.

With all the camouflage applied to this prototype, it’s hard to make out the car’s finer styling points. Despite that, though, we can see that the new Corsa will feature head- and tail-lights, and a grille, that are not dissimilar to those used on the next-generation Astra.

Indeed, the overall design will likely mirror that of its bigger sibling, although the Corsa’s shape, in the interests of space efficiency, seems to be a little stockier and more upright than the Astra.
As with almost all new cars released today, expect the Corsa’s to feature lightweight materials, such as high-strength steel and, possibly, aluminium. This should ensure that the new car is not only lighter, but more fuel efficient, and faster than today’s vehicle.Under the bonnet, the Corsa will likely feature three- and four-cylinder engines, many with forced induction.

While the current car shares its underpinnings with the Fiat Punto, the next-generation Corsa is thought to be based on a platform exclusive to GM. This platform will likely be shared with the next-generation Chevrolet Sonic/Aveo.

Opel Confirms Production of Electric Corsa - https://www.autoevolution.com/news/opel-confirms-production-of-electric-corsa-123510.html

The first fully-electric model in the Opel lineup will hit European streets in 2020, the German automaker announced on Wednesday, with production expected to start a year before at the Zaragoza plant in Spain.

The announcement was made by Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller, who is on a visit at the Spanish factory to discuss the social framework agreement that was concluded with the unions at the end of January.

The official also confirmed production of the next generation, fuel-powered Corsa starting 2019 at the same facility.

The electric Corsa will be the first of a complete lineup of four electrified Opel cars, as the carmaker embarked on a journey that by 2024 will bring onto the market an electrified version for every model available. One of the three other electric cars has already been announced in November 2017 as the Grandland X PHEV.

The Corsa with electric drive will also be sold under its Vauxhall guise on the British market, with the proper right-hand drive configuration.

“This is an important step forward for the Zaragoza plant and marks the beginning of a new era,” said Opel’s CEO. "Zaragoza will continue to play an important role in the industrial footprint of Groupe PSA.”

After it got acquired by French auto group PSA, Opel seems to have gotten back its hopes and dreams. Under French guidance, the company became part of the strategic plan PACE! that calls for the return to profitability by 2020 and electrification of the lineup.

On Tuesday, PSA announced that Opel would also share a platform with Citroen and Peugeot for the new line of leisure activity vehicles, to be presented in the following days.

According to PSA, the new LAVs will use an innovative platform based on the Efficient Modular 2 (EMP2), currently used on the Peugeot 308, 408, 3008, 5008 and the Citroen C4 Picasso, Spacetourer and C5 Aircross.

Opel Confirms Next-Generation Corsa For 2019…

Opel has announced that its next-generation Corsa hatchback will be produced exclusively at the Zaragoza plant in Spain, from 2019.

The German brand furthermore confirmed that an electric variant of the small hatchback would be built on the production line starting in 2020. This, the automaker pointed out, would make Zaragoza the first PSA Group plant to produce a fully electric Opel model in Europe.

“This is an important step forward for the Zaragoza plant and marks the beginning of a new era,” said Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller.

“Zaragoza will continue to play an important role in the industrial footprint of Groupe PSA,” added Lohscheller, confirming additional investment from the French group in the Spanish plant.

Opel said the sixth-generation Corsa would be one of four electrified models in its portfolio by 2020. According to the brand’s latest strategic plan, all Opel passenger car models in the European market would have an electrified version by 2024.

The Zaragoza plant began building the Corsa back in 1982. The PSA Group currently also produces the Mokka X, Crossland X and Citroën C3 Aircross at the Spanish facility.

OPEL SET TO LAUNCH WARMED-UP CORSA GSI – REPORT

A fresh report out of the United Kingdom suggests that Vauxhall – and thus presumably its Opel sister brand, too – has plans to launch a GSi-badged Corsa before the end of the year. Now owned by the PSA Group, Opel recently confirmed that its new sixth-generation Corsa hatchback would go into production in Zaragoza in 2019, so this warmed-up GSi model could be seen as something of a swansong for the outgoing generation. The GSi badge was, of course, last year revived for use on the Insignia.

According to Auto Express, a press release from the German brand confirmed that the “sporty Corsa GSi” would arrive in showrooms in the UK “in late 2018”. It’s not yet clear whether this proposed model is destined for South Africa.

The report added that the new Corsa GSi would likely employ the brand’s 1,4-litre turbocharged four-pot, although it’s not yet known whether it will boast any more oomph than the 110 kW/220 N.m version currently doing duty in the Corsa Sport. The British publication furthermore suggested that the Corsa GSi would benefit from chassis modifications, including stiffer springs, along with a handful of styling tweaks. What this model’s conception means for the OPC badge remains to be seen…
