Latest update to the supermini Twingo, quite popular in the Euro countries. Shares a platform with current Smart cars.

Renault Twingo

More sophisticated while still fun and agile, New Renault Twingo has been revamped and is sporting a new look! Both inside and outside, it comes with new customising options. It also features the latest connectivity innovations with the new Renault EASY CONNECT ecosystem. New Twingo is available with three petrol-power units.

- ULTRA-EASY TO HANDLE - With its rear-mounted engine, New Renault Twingo has a turning circle of only 4.30m, the best on the market. With its compact design (3.61m long), it can weave in and out of city traffic and can park in pocket-sized parking spaces.
- ULTRA-FUN - Experience sporty driving with the New Twingo's specific and secure frame. The new SCe 75 engine provides the best balance between driving pleasure and fuel consumption whilst the TCe 95 (which can be combined with the Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) automatic transmission, a unique car option available in this market segment) allows you to escape easily from the city.
- ULTRA-CONNECTED - At the heart of the Renault EASY CONNECT ecosystem, New Renault Twingo is fitted with two multimedia systems, R&Go and EASY LINK. Connected with Apple and Android smartphones, these systems allow you use the most popular services such as Waze or Google Maps for navigation, and Spotify for Apple Music for music.
- ULTRA-CUSTOMISABLE - By combining body colours (including the new Mango Yellow and Quartz White), interior and exterior colour packs, decals and the six-wheel rims available from the catalogue, New Twingo comes in several hundreds of versions.
- ULTRA-CONVENIENT - Featuring five doors and a fully-folding front passenger seat, New Twingo offers a loading length of 2.31m, a record envied by higher-end cars. Drivers will enjoy the new centre console, as well as the more user-friendly bonnet and tailgate opening systems.
- ULTRA-SAFE - New Renault Twingo protects its passengers with programmed deformation zones around the survival cell, four airbags and seat belts with pretensioners. Electronic driving assistance includes lane departure warning and hill start assist.

Renault Twingo to be taken off sale in the UK

French brand says the move is part of a simplification of the range, but poor sales are also to blame

Renault will axe the Twingo city car from its UK line-up, citing a desire to simplify its model range.

A facelifted Twingo will go on sale in the next few months, but Renault has confirmed that a right-hand-drive version for the UK won't be introduced.

A spokesman said: “Renault UK has decided to not commercialise the Twingo Phase II in the UK right-hand-drive market when this vehicle launches across Europe in the first half of 2019.

He continued: “The decision is due to commercial reasons that align with Renault UK’s policy of having a simpler choice of versions for customers – as demonstrated with the recently introduced Easy Life specifications on Clio, Captur, Mégane, Scénic and Koleos models – and allowing a greater commercial focus to be placed on the range of all-new models and powertrains coming in 2019 and beyond as outlined in Groupe Renault’s Drive The Future mid-term business plan.”

Sales of the current Twingo peaked in 2015, with 5555 units sold in the UK. Since then, sales have declined dramatically. In 2018, just 877 Twingos were sold here.

The Twingo is part of the declining city car segment, with rivals including the Citroën C1 and Volkswagen Up also having lost ground over the last couple of years. In Europe last year, the Twingo sold 77,326 units, while the C1 sold 53,292 and the Up 100,715.

These entry-level cars are also notoriously hard to make profitable, and Renault is likely to perceive that making a right-hand-drive version isn't worth the return.

The Smart Forfour, which shares its underpinnings with the Twingo, is unaffected, according to a Smart UK spokesman.

Renault confirms Twingo ZE to be launched later this year

Electric city car will use Smart Forfour EQ’s platform, but it won't be sold in the UK

Renault has confirmed it will launch its all-electric Twingo ZE city car this year, but the model will not be sold in the UK.

First reported by Autocar in September last year, the electric Twingo will be one of two new EVs launched by Renault in the next 12 months. Alongside the Twingo ZE. and existing Zoe, the French maker will unveil a Kadjar-sized zero-emissions crossover.

The Twingo continues to use the same platform as the Smart Forfour EQ. There are no performance figures yet for the Twingo ZE, but they're likely to be similar to those of its Smart sibling.

That car has a 17.6kWh battery and generates a peak output of 80bhp and 118lb ft of torque from a rear-mounted motor. It offers a claimed range of around 70 miles, and its battery can be charged from 10-80% capacity in 40 minutes. Last year, future product planning boss Ali Kassaï told Autocar: “We need to add an A-segment [electric] car to address customer needs.”

Renault Twingo ZE

With Twingo Z.E., Renault's iconic small city car now has an all-electric engine to offer even greater driving pleasure and comfort in everyday life. With its bubbly personality, this fun and easygoing car reaches its full potential in its favourite playground. By going all-electric, Twingo is more than ever the queen of the city!

Since its first appearance in 1992, Twingo has constantly reinvented itself in line with changing uses and needs. After three generations and almost four million cars sold in 25 countries, Twingo has broken new ground with the launch of its all-electric version, Twingo Z.E.

Renault has leveraged its extensive knowledge of the small city car segment to develop an electric car whose driveability, operating range and features are perfectly suited to the needs of city drivers. Built on a platform designed for electric cars, Twingo Z.E. offers performance and pleasure which magnify the factors that have already made Twingo such a success.

Renault Twingo Z.E. takes Twingo's fun design, attractive personality and exclusive customisation possibilities and enhances them with features that underline its electric character.

Where driving pleasure and convenience are concerned, Twingo Z.E., just like its internal combustion counterpart, has the industry's best-in-class turning radius. Its electric rear-wheel drive and different driving modes make it even more fun and enjoyable to drive. With its 22 kWh battery, Twingo Z.E. can zip around the city for a whole week on a single battery charge. Its versatile charging system allows it to charge up to four times faster than its competitors at the charging stations most commonly found in public areas.

Renault reveals Twingo ZE electric city car

Electric city car – which won't be sold in the UK – features 80bhp motor and 22kWh battery

Renault has revealed the new electric Twingo ZE city car with a range of up to 143 miles – although the model won’t be offered in the UK.

As with rival electric city cars, such as the Smart EQ Fortwo and Volkswagen e-Up, the Twingo ZE is based upon an existing combustion-engined model. The petrol-powered Twingo was launched in 2014.

The Twingo ZE uses a rear-mounted motor that offers 80bhp and 118lb ft, giving it a top speed of 84mph and a 0-62mph time of 12.6sec. Power is drawn from a 22kWh lithium ion battery and a 'B-mode' allows the driver to choose from three levels of regenerative braking.

The car has a range of 143 miles on the WLTP city cycle or 102 miles on the WLTP combined cycle. The battery can be charged at speeds of up to 22kW, at which rate 50 miles of range can be added in around half an hour.
