Toyota to reveal new Corolla sedan on November 16

Toyota has already revealed its new-generation Corolla in hatch and wagon formats, and now the focus shifts to what is traditionally the core model in the line-up - the good old four-door sedan.

You won’t have to wait long to see what the new sedan looks like as Toyota is planning to reveal it to the world on Friday, November 9, at the Guangzhou Auto Expo in China.

For now Toyota has given us a hint of its silhouette in a teaser video (see below) that shows it will have an up-kicked rear window line as per the hatchback model.

The front-end design is expected to be identical to the hatchback, which bodes well for the rest of the body being a far more exciting proposition than the current version.

The new Corolla five-door has been lauded for its hot hatch styling, to the point where fans are now calling on Toyota’s GR racing division to produce a performance version, something that a few Toyota execs have hinted at.

The Corolla sedan’s engine line-up is likely to mimic the hatchback, with most markets getting a new 2-litre normally aspirated direct injection petrol engine that produces 125kW, and there should be some hybrid options too.

The new-gen Corolla is built on Toyota’s TNGA global platform, and as with the five-door, the new sedan is expected to be longer, wider and lower than the current model.

The new Corolla’s cabin resembles that of the CH-R crossover, and US-spec models come standard with an Entune 20cm touchscreen infotainment system with Wi-Fi, Amazon Alexa integration and App Suite Connect.

I'm looking at buying a new midsize sedan next year, so waiting patiently on the new Corolla, Focus, Mazda 3 and Cerato coming to South Africa.
 
Toyota drops fresh teaser image of the new Corolla sedan

Toyota has revealed a fresh teaser image of the new Corolla sedan ahead of its unveiling towards the middle of November 2018.

The image – which we’ve lightened a little for the sake of clarity – shows the headlamps we’ve already seen on the Corolla hatch (which at the time of its reveal in Europe was still badged as the Auris). But the treatment of the badge on the twelfth-generation sedan is a little different here, as is the shape of the grille and foglamps.

Since they will share the TNGA platform, sedan powertrain options are expected to mirror those of the hatchback, which in Europe is offered with just a single conventional engine (in the form of the 1,2-litre turbopetrol that debuted in the C-HR) plus a choice of 2,0-litre hybrid powertrains in various states of tune.

A naturally aspirated 2,0-litre without the hybrid gubbins is also expected to be offered in some markets.

The Corolla sedan is scheduled to be unveiled in China at the Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition on November 16. The hatchback (which has already been spotted locally), meanwhile, is expected to launch in South Africa in February 2019.

Corolla is a the face of boring and rental cars. Bet Avis is happy :laugh:
 
I test drove the SX model in Aus a couple months ago. It drives much like the Camry which is on the same platform tech. It's a nice drive but quite plastic and small. Basically nice drive but not what I'd replace a Golf 7.5 with.

Would not want to drive a Avis looking car. Does not matter how pretty it is.

Toyota has confirmed that it will be revealing a sedan version of its new Corolla this week. Is this what it could look like?

The new Toyota Corolla hatchback is eagerly anticipated in the SA market and we can't wait to get behind the wheel of this new stylish newcomer. However, for those who want a sedan version, they'll have to wait a little while longer. The good news though is that Toyota will be revealing the new Corolla sedan this week.

What we do know so far is that it will also be based on the new TNGA platform which underpins the hatchback and touring versions. The TNGA platform also forms the basis of the stylish C-HR crossover. This platform bodes well for cabin space and we expect the new Corolla to boast an even more spacious interior. As far as engines go, there are petrol and hybrid options. The 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder mill pushes out a reasonable 125 kW and 210 Nm, mated to either a 6-speed manual or a CVT.

The cabin will have modern features such as an 8-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto functionality. Overseas, it will be optionally upgraded to an 800-watt JBL audio system. In terms of safety, the latest driving assistance systems will be made available ranging from Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist, and updated Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection.

What's with that huge gap between the rear wheel and fender?

These pictures make it look better than it will IRL, which will be a typically boring looking car with small wheels and a cheap-ish feeling interior.

The current Corolla also looked good in the pictures prior to its release, until you saw one and sat in one...
