2020 Audi RS6 Avant (C8)

The wild new Audi RS6 GT is a £177k tribute to the 90 IMSA GTO

Limited-run Avant enjoys trick suspension and choice of wraps, but no more power. The ultimate super-wagon?

If you don’t like the garish livery wrap on the new Audi RS6 Avant GT, then we’ve got bad news: you have to have it. There’s a choice – white with orange and black, grey with black or black with grey – but if you’re stumping up £176,975 for one of the 660 GTs Audi will build, then it’s got to have the wrap.

What it also has is manually adjustable suspension from the excellent RS4 Competition, a 10mm ride height drop, new 22in six-spoke ‘Avus’ alloys, standard ceramic brakes, a centre and rear differential combo that’s been recoded to misbehave more of the time, and a roof spoiler inspired by 2020’s RS6 GTO concept.

And because Audi doesn’t want you putting any bicycles, boxes or tents on the roof that might upset the airflow, this is the first RS6 that doesn’t have any roof rails up top.

You have to be an RS6 geek to spot that. Those people will already have noticed the RS3-style vents in the front wheelarches, and the carbon fibre bonnet. This is a very mean-looking RS6. But weirdly, it isn’t any faster than the standard car.

Limited Audi RS6 Avant GT Super Wagon Revealed

The Audi RS6 Avant has always been a favourite among car and especially wagon enthusiasts and now before the current-gen RS6 says goodbye, Audi has revealed a limited-edition GT offering.

Say hello to the Aud RS6 Avant GT limited to 660 units worldwide and has taken inspiration from the 2020 RS6 GTO concept as well as the Audi 90 Quattro IMSA GTO race car from the late ’80s.

Packed with exclusive details inside and out, the RS6 Avant GT is the first Audi to have carbon-fibre details on its hood, incorporating large pieces that start at the hood’s vents and run almost all the way up to the windshield. A new, high-gloss black Singleframe grille and air intakes make this special RS6 Avant stand out even more. From the side, the six-spoke, 22-inch wheels give the special model a larger posture, while the air intakes behind the wheel arches help cool down the brakes. If you happen to tailgate an Avant GT, you won’t mistake it for anything else. Audi says its massive rear wing is almost the same size as the one from the GTO concept, and when you look at the rear diffuser and the large dual exhausts, the back suddenly becomes our favourite angle.

The RS6 Avant GT will have five exterior colours and three colour wraps to choose from.

The Avant GT uses the same twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine as the Avant Performance, pushing out 621 hp (463 kW) and 847 Nm (625 lb-ft) of torque. Thanks to some tweaking, the GT hits 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.2 seconds (one-tenth of a second quicker than the standard model).

New Audi RS6 Avant GT: just 1 unit for South Africa!

Meet the Audi RS6 Avant GT, an extreme new special edition of Ingolstadt’s high-performance wagon. So, is it coming to South Africa? Yes, but we’ll receive just a single unit…

The new Audi RS6 Avant GT has been revealed, sporting bold exterior styling, an upgraded cabin, adjustable coilover suspension and a revised rear differential.

The Ingolstadt-based firm’s local division has already confirmed that the GT-badged special edition is indeed destined for South Africa – though just a single example from the 660-unit production run has been set aside for our market. Keep your eyes open from the 2nd quarter of 2024, when this lone unit is due to make local landfall.
