Hybrid Honda Jazz confirmed for 2020

New supermini, the first in the maker’s European line-up to be offered only as a hybrid, to be revealed at Tokyo motor show.

The next-generation Honda Jazz will use the dual-motor hybrid system already seen in the brand's CR-V hybrid when it launches next year.

First reported by Autocar in March, Honda has now confirmed the Jazz's move to hybrid power.

To be unveiled at the Tokyo motor show in October, the top-selling Honda model in the UK is expected to be the first in the brand's line-up to only offer a hybrid powertrain. This follows Honda's announcement that all of its models in Europe will become hybrids by 2025.

Honda said: "Ahead of its 2025 electrification goal, Honda will expand the application of its i-MMD dual-motor hybrid system, with the introduction into smaller segment cars an important first step."

Currently, the only model it offers as a hybrid is the CR-V, which indirectly replaced a diesel variant of the compact SUV. Petrol variants are also sold. Honda UK has seen great success with the CR-V Hybrid, which accounts for 60% of the model’s sales.

Following the launch of the hybrid Jazz in 2020, the next electrified model will be the Civic in 2021.

If I'm making the shape out properly, it looks a bit like a Toyota from the front. Not really a big fan. I liked the 2nd gen Jazz quite a bit...
 
The Jazz used to be such a great looking car. Man, the design went downhill fast. Like Honda suddenly decided it shouldn't look sporty at all, even with V-Tech and whatever else.

The Jazz has always looked like a mom's taxi, I can't remember any Jazz that looked desirable, it has always been about the practicality of space, folding seas and it's famed reliabilty.

I think the amount of women and grannies who drives it just proves my point.

Nope. There was a generation that looked awesome. One of the nicest hatches of its time.

Fixed.

I have driven that car through roadblocks at 2am only to have the porkers say "You can go ma'am" and I just go. Advantages of driving a gran's taxi. Went through a block more recently in my other car and they were not as polite.
 
In our family we have a Swift (which I use) and a 2013 CR-V 2L FWD manual for the SO.
If ever we have to reduce to one car we shall most definitely choose a Jazz.
Many years ago, in 2004, our company had a Jazz CVT as a runabout, for all and sundry to use, doing deliveries and a substitute when other vehicles were in for repairs or servicing - mostly deliveries.
It survived eight years of abuse.
When it had to be replaced, I thought what the hell, I'll buy it. For four years I drove it like I stole it. I made extensive use of the paddle **** on the steering wheel.
Three years ago I sold it (That is time for another story) and bought the Swift.
I can write a book on where we went to in the Jazz; some real shitty roads in the Hoggsback area and through some floods on the Garden Route.

Conclusion: It's a very good car but it is expensive.

The next-generation Honda Jazz will be launched in Europe with hybrid technology as its sole powertrain, Honda confirmed at the Frankfurt motor show.

The move was first reported by Autocar in March, and now Honda has confirmed that the Jazz, its bestselling model in the UK, will only be offered with petrol-electric hybrid engines.

It will use the same dual-motor hybrid system already seen in the brand's CR-V hybrid when it launches next year, following a debut at the Tokyo motor show in March.

The Jazz will be the first in the brand 's line-up to only offer a hybrid powertrain, with other models soon to follow suit. Honda announced earlier this year that all of its combustion-engined models in Europe will be offered with hybrid powertrains by 2025.

Drove my mother's Gen2 hybrid Jazz around for a while when we visited my folks a while back. Honestly, not a big fan of the way that Honda implemented the hybrid system. Admittedly I haven't driven any other hybrids, but the control system was a bit dumb and I felt that it was just slowing me down rather than assisting intelligently to save fuel. Hopefully in this new-gen one they do better.

Her previous car was a normal manual Jazz from the same generation (I think a year or two older). I much preferred that one.

The Japanese car maker said the new Jazz will “raise the bar in terms of comfort and driver enjoyment”.

Honda has previously confirmed that the model will be launched in Europe with hybrid technology as its sole powertrain. Autocar first reported the move in March, and in September this year, Honda affirmed that its bestselling model in the UK would only be offered with petrol-electric hybrid engines.

It will use the same dual-motor hybrid system already seen in the brand's CR-V hybrid when it launches next year. Honda said the powertrain “provides an exceptional blend of strong and effortless driving performance and impressive fuel economy”.

New Honda Jazz teased ahead of Tokyo show

Once regarded as an innovative and arguably class-leading supermini hatch, Honda’s Jazz has faded in appeal in recent years, with the third generation having failed to move the game forward to a sufficient degree.

But now it looks like the Jazz is getting its groove on again, with the release of the fourth-generation model, which Honda has just ‘teased’ ahead of its world premiere at the Tokyo Motor Show next week Wednesday, October 23.

Its overall proportions appear to follow a similar formula to today’s Jazz, with an MPV-like cab-forward design that maximises interior room, but the details appear sharper, particularly at the front, but also at the back, where the current car’s vertical tail lamps make way for more conventional looking horizontal units.

Honda says the new Jazz was redesigned with “the passenger at its heart” and that it “will raise the bar in terms of comfort and driver enjoyment.” So Honda is trying to keep everyone happy, in other words.
