The all new Kangoo has been shown. The old model used to be fairly popular in SA (circa early noughties)./

Renault Kangoo

The All-new Renault Kangoo, an elegant and spacious combispace with five real seats, perfectly meets the needs of dynamic families and tribes with a redesigned look, more comfort and equipment and new driving aids. It retains all its clever modular features, which are also popular with professional customers (administrations, local authorities and associations).

The All-new Kangoo Van and the All-new Kangoo will be produced in the Renault's Maubeuge factory in France. They will be marketed in Europe and on international markets.

New Renault Kangoo range revealed and ready to battle VW’s Caddy

Renault has revealed its new Kangoo range, which again includes both passenger- and light commercial vehicle variants.

Set to take on the likewise box-fresh Volkswagen Caddy line-up, the new Kangoo range includes a five-seater passenger vehicle as well as a van. Both will be produced at the automaker's Maubeuge factory in France. Interestingly, the upcoming Mercedes-Benz T-Class will be based on this new Kangoo.

The Kangoo Van is aimed “mainly at fleets, craftsmen and traders”, and boasts what Renault describes as the “widest side access” point in its class. It will be available in two body lengths and offered (with manual and automatic transmissions) in diesel, petrol and electric flavours. Renault has yet to release full details of the powertrain range.

Renault Kangoo

A true icon ever since its release in 1997, Renault Kangoo won over the hearts of its customers with its spacious, modular design with plenty of storage options. The All-New Kangoo, it is Kangoo and more! It has improved on all the original features that made the first model such a success. This latest generation is the Kangoo comeback! The combispace maintains its ingenious flat floor and innovative roof bars that are unlike anything on the market and the latest in safety features on the base-line model.

The All-New Renault Kangoo: the elegant and spacious combispace

With five regular seats, the All-New Renault Kangoo is the perfect vehicle for active families and large groups in need of something modular so they never run out of room. With a new exterior design, more comfort and equipment, it offers a perceived quality worthy of a high-end private car as well as new driving aids.

Manufactured at the Renault factory in Maubeuge, France, the All-New Kangoo will be sold throughout Europe and internationally as early as June 2021.

The Express is Renault's new bakkie

A value single-cab for workers.

Renault has expanded its single-cab bakkie offering, with the Express.

Although most bakkie fans will only be familiar with the Renault Alaskan or Oroch double-cabs, the brand has realised that bakkies are only becoming more popular, in all markets.

Renault’s response is to deliver a broader portfolio of bakkie solutions. And that brings us to the new Express.

This is a compact light-duty single-cab bakkie, based on the Renault Kangoo van. It uses a unibody design and customers will have the same powertrain options, available on Kangoo.

Converting the Kangoo into an Express is the work of Foraccia, an Italian coachbuilding specialist. Fabricators and technicians at Foraccia remove the roof and additional cargo doors, to create a loadbox 1.79m in length.

Vauxhall Mokka and Renault Kangoo earn four-star NCAP ratings

Cupra Leon gains five stars, while Mercedes GLA and EQA undergo further testing

The new Vauxhall Mokka SUV and Renault Kangoo MPV have gained a four-star safety verdict in Euro NCAP’s latest round of testing, while the Cupra Leon earned the same five-star rating as its Seat sibling.

The tests focused on side impact protection for both adults and children and analysed safety features on each model with standard equipment.

The Mokka, which is now based on Stellantis’ Common Modular Platform (CMP) scored a 75% child occupant score, with a slightly lower 72% adult occupant score. It was also awarded 64% for its safety assist systems and 58% for protecting vulnerable road users.

Overall, the Mokka scored four stars out of five, losing marks for its lack of automatic emergency braking and centre airbag.

“The new Mokka lacks some critical safety systems that have become increasingly commonplace by now. The latest edition clearly lacks the ambition of the previous Mokka that was a runner-up of 2012 Best in Class in the Small Family category,” said Michiel van Ratingen, Euro NCAP’s secretary general.

The Renault Kangoo also secured a four-star score, scoring an 87% adult occupant score and a 87% child occupant score, along with a 67% vulnerable road user score and 72% for its safety assist systems.

The Kangoo was praised for its safety systems offered as standard but lacked in other areas. “Renault has launched a respectable successor that performs well in general and lacks only a centre airbag as far as state-of-the-art protection is concerned,” said van Ratingen.

Nissan has made this really quite normal looking electric van

The Townstar will come with petrol and electric options to replace the e-NV200

Big news in the world of vanning – you can now buy a Renault Kangoo with a Nissan badge on the front. Yep, welcome to the all-new (kinda) Nissan Townstar. Great name.

You can only have the Townstar in the Kangoo’s smallest configuration, and Nissan has plucked just two powertrain options – a 1.3-litre petrol with 128bhp and an all-electric version with a 44kWh battery and a 118bhp motor. That’ll do 177 miles on a single charge, reckons Nissan.

That’s a 43 per cent increase in range over the current e-NV200, which Nissan will retire when the Townstar comes on sale.

The Townstar will get a whole heap more tech than the e-NV200 too, with loads of active safety and driver assist features, as well as Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and wireless phone charging.

Nissan Townstar revealed as official replacement for the NV200 LCV

The Nissan Townstar has been revealed as the Japanese manufacturer’s official replacement for the NV200. The new van makes use of the same CMF-C platform as the Mercedes-Benz Citanand Renault Kangoo.

The Nissan Townstar will be sold with a choice of two powertrains at launch. For eco-friendly conscious markets, a fully electric offering will be available with a 44 kWh battery that boasts a range of 285 km. The alliance’s turbocharged 1,3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with 96 kW and 240 N.m of torque will be sold to those still wanting to use fuel.

The fully electric Nissan Townstar reflects aesthetic cues taken from the Nissan Ariya, including slim signature LED headlamps and an aerodynamic front shield integrating an intricate Kumiko pattern and a fresh V-motion design.

Likewise, the petrol-powered version boasts a distinctive look with sharp and dynamic cues thanks to its interlock-patterned grille. Air curtains integrated into the front fascia optimise airflow around the front bumper and front wheels, reducing drag and fuel consumption.

Depending on the powertrains, the cargo bay of the Nissan Townstar can accommodate two Euro pallets and 800 kg worth of cargo with a towing capacity of up to 1 500 kg. The cargo area integrates large sliding doors that enable unloading and 60:40 French rear doors with 180 degree opening or tailgate rear door (uniquely offered on the passenger version). It also includes smart storage solutions and a dedicated space for on-board office tools.

Nissan Townstar compact van revealed as new VW Caddy rival

Nissan is taking aim at the Volkswagen Caddy and Peugeot Partner with this new compact van contender. Revealed for the European market on Monday, the Nissan Townstar will replace the NV250 and there is also a fully-electric version to succeed the e-NV200.

Like its rivals, the Nissan Townstar will be available in both passenger-carrying station wagon and load-lugging panel van configurations.

Built around the Alliance CMF-C platform that also underpins the new Nissan Qashqai, the newcomer boasts up to 3.9 square metres of cargo space and a payload of 800kg. The panel van is also able to cope with longer loads thanks to a swiveling partition that turns the passenger seat into an extended cargo area. 60:40 French rear doors with 180-degree opening further enhance practicality.

The Nissan Townstar will be available in both petrol and electric formats. The former variants are powered by a 1.3-litre turbopetrol engine that offers 96kW and 240Nm. The electric version features a 44kWh battery that is said to offer a range of 285km (pending WLTP homologation). The electric motor produces 245Nm of torque.

The Nissan Townstar will be available with a full suite of driver assistance features, including Intelligent Cruiser Control, Trailer Sway Control, Intelligent Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection and Junction Assist. Nissan also mentions wireless phone charging and promises to introduce more advanced connected services when the electric version is launched.

All-new Renault Kangoo wins International Van of the Year for 2022

The all-new Renault Kangoo, which forms the base of the all new Mercedes-Benz Citan and Nissan Townstar, has been crowned the International Van of the Year for 2022. This award was bestowed upon it by a jury of 24 European journalists.

During the Solutrans trade fair in Lyon, Mr. Jarlath Sweeney, Chairman of the IVOTY jury, presented Mark Sutcliffe, SVP, LCV Business Unit, Renault Group, with the 2022 International Van of the Year award Renault Kangoo van. The Pan-European jury, of 24 leading journalists specialising in commercial, industrial, and transport vehicles, placed Renault’s latest van in front of the 14 light commercial vehicles from 11 different brands that have also been released in recent months.

For the IVOTY jury, the main criteria for the International Van of the Year Award are the vehicles’ contribution to the efficiency, safety, sustainability, and environmental standards of the light commercial vehicle sector. This is the 4th time that a Renault commercial vehicle has won the IVOTY award: Master (1998), Trafic (2002), and Kangoo Z.E. (2012).

Nissan Townstar and Renault Kangoo platform mates:

Renault Grand Kangoo

Over the 25 years since it pioneered the ludospace (leisure MPV) segment with its design in a class by itself, next-level practicality and the first ever sliding side door, Renault Kangoo has stayed in touch with its time and quintessentially innovative.

It is also a one-of-a-kind success story: Renault has sold over 4.4 million Kangoo vehicles in 50 countries around the world, and the electric version has been the bestseller in its segment since 2011. It is the best of both worlds: a car for families, with its elegant design and spaciousness, and a vehicle for professionals, thanks in particular to its boot space and robustness.

The Renault Kangoo line-up, which has moved upmarket and on-boarded innovations non-stop over the years, now includes a longer version, Grand Kangoo.
