New electric crossover is due in the UK within a year; shares a platform with Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6

Genesis has unveiled the GV60 as its first bespoke EV, vowing that it will offer a “totally new experience” in the premium market.

The new crossover is based on the Hyundai Motor Group’s advanced E-GMP architecture for EVs, which is also used by the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and forthcoming Kia EV6.

It features an 800V electrical architecture, allowing for ultra-rapid 350kW charging, and can host both single- and dual-motor powertrains with a range of battery sizes.

The GV60 will sit below the GV70 and GV80 in Genesis's SUV line-up and will be the brand's second EV in the European market, following the electric version of the G80 saloon.

The GV60 showcases a new evolution of Genesis’s design language, with the Two Lines lights at either side of a flush front end that features a revamped version of the firm’s logo.

The lower portion of the front features a large grille that Genesis says is intended to both emphasise dynamic performance and add cooling of the high-voltage battery. There's also a single-panel ‘clamshell’ bonnet.

Electric crossover is the second of three EVs Genesis will launch in Europe in the next 12 months

Love the idea of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, but hate the styling? Try the Genesis GV60 on for size. It’s the second of three EVs Hyundai’s luxury offshoot will launch in the next 12 months – the first being the Electrified G80 (which will come to Europe after all), due towards the end of this year. The GV60 should go on sale soon after, sometime during the first half of 2022.

Because it’s still a way off, Genesis has only released a handful of pics and a limited amount of information. We do know that like the Ioniq 5, the GV60 is based on the clever ‘E-GMP’ platform. So we could make some assumptions about the tech, the size and range of the battery, the power and position of the motors and so-on. But we won’t. Hyundai enters premium electric SUV game with new Genesis GV60

The new Genesis GV60 has been revealed as Hyundai’s answer to the Mustang Mach-E, BMW iX3 and Tesla Model Y.

The fully-electric crossover SUV becomes the third fully-electric vehicle to be spawned from Hyundai’s new E-GMP modular EV platform, following the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Technical details for the Genesis GV60 remain under wraps, but it is likely to offer both single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive configurations. According to Autocar, the latter AWD variants are likely to offer around 225kW.

Being based around E-GMP also means it should come with an 800V electrical architecture that allows for high-speed charging, from 10% to 80% in under 20 minutes.

The Genesis GV60 also ushers in a new EV design language for Hyundai’s premium brand, featuring a clamshell bonnet and no upper grille, as well as digital side mirrors that are connected to the camera and monitor system.

Genesis is finally getting in on the EV game. After some speculation, the brand finally released images and design details of its new and first EV, the GV60.

Riding on the same E-GMP platform as Kia’s upcoming EV6 EV, the GV60 carries the lowest model name in the Genesis lineup. Genesis confusingly explains this, saying that even though 60 is the lowest model number in the range so far, that means it’s “athletic?”

Alphanumeric names suck, even with made-up fake-math justifications. The exterior design of the GV60 is rather unique. The front facia almost looks as if it’s been flipped. The headlights are similar to those found on the G70 and GV70, and a wide grill makes up the lower half of the facia.

No sooner has Genesis ruffled the establishments feathers with their exceptional quality and genuinely compelling products, they have now made their intentions for the future clear with the GV60, their first EV based on a dedicated platform – E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform).

A quick summation of the GV60 nomenclature places the vehicle in the Genesis organogram of products – “G” in GV60 represents Genesis, while the “V” represents the vehicle’s versatility. The number ‘60’ is the lowest in the Genesis line-up, with the positioning of each model in the range representing their design identity of ‘Athletic Elegance’ with slightly varying focus. The intention is for lower numbers to emphasize athleticism, while higher numbers indicate a stronger focus on elegance. As such, the GV60 represents Genesis’ most athletic model yet.

While keeping in line with Genesis’ striking “Two-Lines” design language, the GV60’s front end features a design that is optimised for the electric vehicle, while a lower, more athletic Crest Grille increases the cooling efficiency of the high-voltage batteries stored in the GV60’s underbody.

Genesis’ new wing emblem has been applied to the grille, the thickness of which has been reduced by nearly 80 percent from previous models, and featuring the same unique Guilloché pattern often seen in luxury watches – a nod to Genesis’ analogue sensitivities, melded with high-tech innovations.

The interior of the GV60 features a striking Crystal Sphere, a sphere-shaped Shift By Wire selector that informs drivers when the vehicle is ready to be driven.

How’s your Genesis knowledge? No, not that one. The posh bit of Hyundai.

I ask because if you already know a bit, then be prepared to have to learn some more, even though the first bunch of the new brand’s cars have barely arrived.

This week, the firm announced its second electric vehicle, and its first based on a bespoke EV platform, called the Genesis GV60.

With it comes what appears to be an update to the brand’s design language – because it doesn’t look like any of the other Genesis models that have barely been launched yet. And it also brings an update to the naming strategy.

In principle, the G stands for Genesis and the V for Versatile, which means it’s a crossover or SUV, but not an estate, even though they’re also quite versatile. But the brand's sole estate car is called the Genesis G70 Shooting Brake.

Then there’s the numbering system, which I think I’ll just hand over to them to explain: “Genesis is evolving its model-naming scheme based on unique design identity of ‘Athletic Elegance’ emphasising athleticism with lower numbers and elegance with higher numbers.”

I don’t know. I’m sorry. Maybe that still just means the bigger the size, the bigger the number – that athletic is small and elegant is big? But what if they make an agile big car or a very luxurious and elegant small one? No idea.

Genesis details plan to go all-electric from 2025

Luxury marque will launch final combustion car by 2025 and sell only EVs from 2030

Hyundai's premium brand Genesis has announced that it will only launch electric vehicles from 2025 onwards, just four years after rolling out its first pure EVs.

Following the market launches of the all-electric Electrified G80 saloon and GV60 crossover in 2022, the marque will "focus on a dual electrification strategy involving fuel cell and battery-electric vehicles", launching its final combustion vehicle in 2030.

Genesis itself does not yet market a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, but parent company Hyundai currently sells the Nexo crossover and has promised that hydrogen will continue to play a central role in its electrification strategy in the coming years, so naturally Genesis will follow suit.

Genesis has recently unveiled the GV60 as its first bespoke electric car. It shares its E-GMP platform with Hyundai's Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6, unlike the G80 Electrified, which is based on an adapted version of the combustion-fuelled G80's architecture.

In future, Genesis says it will "put an effort on developing pure electric technologies such as new fuel cell systems with higher power output, and electric systems that help improve efficiency". It will also develop ways of extracting better performance and efficiency from lithium ion batteries.

Beyond its 2025 goal, Genesis is also seeking to become entirely carbon-neutral by 2035; it is the first Hyundai group brand to set a deadline for achieving this ambition. It will "innovate" its entire value chain, changing the way it sources and constructs raw materials, vehicles and parts at all facilities.

Back in August, Genesis - Hyundai’s new luxury brand - gave us a glimpse of its first dedicated electric car, the GV60. And now it has furnished us with the first juicy details of its dinkiest crossover.

Let’s start with the big stuff. Based on the same e-GMP platform that forms the basis of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, all models get a 77.4kWh battery that can be charged from 10 to 80% full in just 18 minutes at 350kW. Its slow charging ability has been upped to 11kW too, so less time spent plugged in at home.

There are three versions: rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive and all-wheel drive infused with added performance. For RWD cars, that means a single motor delivering 225bhp and 258lb ft, and a maximum range of 280 miles. AWD models combine a 99bhp front motor with a 215bhp rear unit for a total of 314bhp and 446lb ft. Range drops to 249 miles.

As for the Performance edition, that gets a pair of full-fat motors for a grand total of 429bhp, although torque remains unchanged. This is the least rangesome of the three, topping out at 229 miles from full.

There’s also a Boost Mode that’ll give you access to all of that power for 10 seconds at a time. Hit that button and you’re looking at 0-62mph in four seconds flat. And if that isn’t lairy enough for you, the GV60 also gets a Drift Mode for ‘drivers who are looking for a more dynamic experience’, as the Genesis literature puts it. And there we were thinking it a daft addition to a Golf R...

The new Genesis GV60 electric crossover will be offered with three power outputs, including a range-topping 429bhp all-wheel-drive performance model that will offer a boost drive mode.

The BMW iX3-rivalling crossover, which was first shown in August, is the new premium brand's first bespoke EV. Genesis brand boss Luc Donckerwolke said that, as its first dedicated EV, the GV60 "shows our commitment to electrification in terms of performance, design and innovative features".

One of eight battery-electric or hydrogen fuel cell models that Genesis will launch by 2030, the GV60 is based on the Hyundai Motor Group's advanced E-GMP architecture, which is also used by the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and forthcoming Kia EV6.

The E-GMP platform features an 800V electrical architecture, allowing for ultra-rapid 350kW charging, and can host both single- and dual-motor powertrains with a range of battery sizes.

While E-GMP models can be fitted with both 58kWh and 77.4kWh batteries, the GV60 will be offered with only the larger unit. Charging can be conducted as speeds of up to 350kW, allowing for a 10% to 80% charge in 18 minutes.

Crossover will offer RWD and AWD with 73kWh battery for range of up to 280 miles

In the marque’s first full year in Europe, Genesis will launch its maiden bespoke electric car – the GV60, a striking and technologically advanced crossover to rival the Skoda Enyaq iV Coupé.

After unveiling it last year, the Korean premium brand has now confirmed specifications for European versions ahead of its market launch this summer.

This will take the number of models on sale using the E-GMP platform to three, after the introduction of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 last year.

The GV60 is the firm's sixth European-market model and will be followed by EV versions of the Genesis G80 luxury saloon and Genesis GV70 SUV.

Genesis to soon release the GV60 in Europe

The luxury brand of Hyundai Motor Group, Genesis, announced that it will soon launch pre-orders for its first fully electric GV60 car in Europe. The GV60 is based on the E-GMP platform, which is the base for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6, so we kind of know what to expect.

However, unlike its close siblings, the Genesis GV60 offers just one battery option - 77.4 kWh. There are going to be three tiers available - Premium, Sport and Sport Plus. The premium option employs a single 168 kW motor and rear-wheel drive. The WLPT rating is 516km (321 miles) for that particular option.

The Sport is all-wheel drive with a 160kW motor and a secondary one with 74kW output. The Sport Plus is the most powerful one having two 160kW motors allowing some unique features such as Drift Mode and Boost Mode. The latter adds a 10-second boost of 20 kW per motor. Sadly, Genesis didn't disclose ranges for those two.
