"Jaguar Land Rover’s bounce back continues with the development of the third-generation Range Rover Sport, which, as an expected profit pusher, is now the British company’s main focus. Thanks to its innovative ‘Project Charge’ recovery plan, JLR’s finances are the best they’ve been for ages, but the next-gen Sport is set to be a make-or-break model for the firm.

Spy pictures sent in by Auto Express reader Peter Siu hint at not only the Range Rover Sport’s change in proportions, but also some of the finer details of its design. Our exclusive images preview how it could look.

The overall length of the wheelbase appears to be the same, at just under the three-metre mark, but the car’s front and rear overhangs are far shorter, while this prototype wears a substantial amount of fake panelling to conceal its new profile. The thick cladding is likely to be hiding a fresh shape that’s more removed from the traditional two-box SUV profile used by the current car. Instead the new model has a sleeker look.

In detail, the nose will be more Velar-like, with a slim grille and shallow headlights, and a similar treatment will appear at the back, with new horizontal tail-lights. The door handles are almost certainly placeholders, with pop-out items expected on the finished car.

Our reader got a peek of the interior, and noted the inclusion of a large central screen. Jaguar Land Rover has recently introduced its Pivi Pro infotainment set-up with an 11.4-inch central touchscreen, and this will almost certainly be used on next-generation models using the MLA platform. ..."

New Range Rover Sport SVR prototype spied testing

Heavily disguised new-generation SUV is photographed ahead of its anticipated debut next year

The third-generation Range Rover Sport has been spotted in a heavy camouflage wrap, with the car expected to make its global debut in the latter stages of 2022.

Seen here in SVR trim for the first time, its large brakes and quad-tailpipe exhaust are giveaway signs that it's the hottest version of the forthcoming SUV.

Few other details are immediately obvious, with the Range Rover Sport’s shape undergoing a subtle evolution from that of the current model. The design of the grille and headlights have been obscured, while the tail-lights have been concealed beneath what appear to be temporary panels.

Meanwhile, the door handles have sunk into the doors themselves.

Like the new Range Rover, which is due to be unveiled later this year after several test mule sightings over the last 12 months, the next Range Rover Sport will be based on Jaguar Land Rover's new MLA platform.

The underpinnings support 48V mild-hybrid technology as well as fully fledged plug-in hybrid powertrains, and images of Range Rover prototypes suggest that it also allows rear-wheel steering.

Land Rover is shifting its internal focus from the soon-to-launch, radically reinvented fifth-generation Range Rover to development of the 2023 Range Rover Sport, the current version of which has become one of the company’s best-selling cars.

Due to launch around a year after its full-sized sibling, the new, Mk3 Range Rover Sport will play a fundamental role in supporting Jaguar Land Rover as the firm embarks on a wide-reaching and rapid-fire electrification programme. Every year for the past five years, the current model has outsold the standard Range Rover by more than 40% and more recently has jostled with the smaller Evoque and Discovery Sport for the position of JLR’s best-selling overall model.

The roll-out of Land Rover’s new MLA Flex architecture to its largest models means the Mk3 Range Rover Sport will be a radically different proposition from the outgoing car, which will be 10 years old by the time it is replaced.

I had the privilege to see the new sport today and the photo from above is very close to what it looks like.

There were two of them available for us to view. One was in a mate silver in the SE edition and the other was special color for car shows only in a beautiful red with gold flakes. This was called the "First Edition". The First Edition will be the top of line with 4 colors only. Blue, Red, Black, and a new light green.

The bad news, NO SVR upon its launch in May. That's right, They are not offering the SVR for a while so the 530 hp First Edition with a BMW engine is tops for now.

The interior is very similar to the new full size with the one floating center screen.

Overall, the vehicle looks good and very similar to the current model blended with the Velar.

There will also be a price increase as the First Edition starts at $120000 and its the only one you can get with a V8.
