The new S-Cross, successor to the SX4 has been announced.

Suzuki S-Cross

The Suzuki S-Cross has earned high acclaim for its stylish design, compact and easy to manage dimensions, good on-road performance as well as off-road capability with its optional ALLGRIP Select 4x4 system. It is now replaced by an all-new model which takes advantage of Suzuki's long established expertise in packaging vehicles above their class with flexibility, an even higher level of safety equipment and the latest technology to meet the diverse needs of both driver and passengers.

EXTERIOR DESIGN

The S-Cross expresses Suzuki's SUV styling heritage and the new model makes a strong statement featuring a bold and more muscular design that enhances its presence with larger and more angular wheel arches and smooth flowing lines. The front design incorporates a raised bonnet line, piano black front grille and new design three LED position headlamps that help portray a high centre of gravity. This theme continues at the rear with larger combination lamps that integrate horizontally with the rear centre garnish to emphasise a sense of width, in addition to roof rails and integrated rear spoiler. This all-new design is complemented with a more spacious and versatile interior and an even higher standard and safety specification than the previous model.

Suzuki S-Cross is produced at the Magyar Suzuki plant in Hungary which also produces Vitara models for European markets as well as exports of both vehicles around the world.

Suzuki S-Cross revealed as official SX4 successor

The Suzuki S-Cross has been officially unveiled as the successor to the SX4 model-line. This new option will be manufactured at Suzuki’s Hungarian subsidiary Magyar Suzuki Corporation and sales will start in Europe from the end of 2021, followed by export to Latin America, Oceania, and Asia.

The Suzuki S-Cross has been designed with a large, piano-black grille and headlamps each with three LED position lamps. The lamps and the bonnet are placed high to enhance the appearance as an aggressive SUV.

The side view features squared wheel arch mouldings, while the flowing shoulder line aims to communicate a strong yet smooth sense of power. As with the front face, the rear lamps and bumpers are placed high to create a sense of dynamism. The Japanese manufacturer says that from any angle, the Suzuki S-Cross design communicates the dignified form of a rugged SUV.

New Suzuki S-Cross compact SUV unveiled as new age SX4

The Suzuki SX4 was once a popular compact SUV within the company’s local line-up after the brand was relaunched over a decade ago, but the second generation never quite took off and it eventually slipped away quietly after the rebooted Vitara took the spotlight.

Now Suzuki has launched a successor to the SX4 in Europe and it’s now simply known as the S-Cross, with the SX4 prefix falling away. Built in Hungary the new Suzuki S-Cross appears to have been created primarily for the European market, although it will be exported to other regions.

But will it come to South Africa? Our local contact said that no decisions have been made at this stage. “However, we will study it, as we do with all models, to see if there is a fit for our market,” the spokesperson added.

Measuring 4300mm in length, the new Suzuki S-Cross is similar in size to the Hyundai Creta and offers a 430-litre boot. Unlike most of its rivals, the new Suzuki is also available with the company’s AllGrip all-wheel drive system.

The cabin has been thoroughly modernised and now boasts a 9.0-inch HD infotainment display and available high tech features include adaptive cruise control with stop & go, 360-degree camera and rear cross traffic alert, to name a few.

The European market Suzuki S-Cross is powered by a mild hybrid version of the company’s 1.4-litre turbopetrol engine. The engine produces 95kW and 235Nm, with the electric motor adding an extra 10kW and 50Nm to the tally.

Japanese firm's soft-roader enters second generation with a major design overhaul and improved standard equipment

Suzuki has revealed the new SX4 S-Cross with a fresh design, mild-hybrid engine technology and a higher level of standard equipment.

The Japanese firm’s soft-roader enters its second generation with a bulkier design featuring smoother lines and larger wheel arches. It has a new front end with a raised bonnet line and a piano-black grille, plus an integrated rear spoiler and roof rails.

Suzuki says the new design means the SX4 S-Cross now has a more spacious and versatile interior, as well as improved safety.

Power comes from a 127bhp turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system - an uprated version of that used on the Ignis and Swift.

The SX4 S-Cross is capable of a 0-62mph time of 9.5sec (10.2sec for four-wheel-drive models) and a top speed of 121mph.

Top-rung models are equipped with Suzuki’s Allgrip 4WD system with four selectable modes as standard, while the six-speed manual gearbox can be upgraded to a six-speed automatic.

CAR REVIEW

Suzuki S-Cross

WHAT'S THE VERDICT?

“Sensible SUV lets a little style into the mix. Not perfect, but wholeheartedly good value for money”

The Suzuki S-Cross is not a car you’d ever love. But if you’re dishing out £25,000 (or 200-odd quid a month) on a small SUV, you’re probably not looking for a mechanised new family member anyway.

It offers a helluva lot of equipment for a price roughly equivalent to the base spec of its key rivals, while serving up stuff many of its foes don’t – the combination of a manual gearbox and 4WD transmission among them.

Its hybrid element is thus far small, but the performance lent to the S-Cross by its sliver of electrification is laudable. This is a crossover that’s brisk, deft to drive and should be a doddle to live with. It may prove hard to love, but it’ll be even tougher to vehemently criticise.

I currently own the 2014 SX4 AllGrip, with just over 160k km on the clock so it past it's replacement date quite a while ago. But when people ask me what I'll be replacing it with I really cannot find anything worthwhile (and I work for Toyota so I can get exceptional staff discount), so my response has become something in the line of finding the same model with less km on it.
This new update will tick all the boxes, I truly hope it finds it way to our shores.

I'm wondering how much cheaper this will be compared to the Corolla Cross. May even cost more based on the comparison with the Baleno vs Starlet.

This is exactly what I have been looking for.
A soft roader with decent boot space and available in auto.

Really hope it comes here and that it comes soon!
