2022 Toyota GR Corolla

Gosh. I had to to quickly scroll past your last two posts there, @FiestaST I wanna see the vehicle for the 1st time on the day that Toyota has set.

I really don’t understand this ‘leaking a car before it has been unveiled’ business. Car reveals aren’t as exciting anymore. People no longer have the ability to wait and respect the manufacturers wishes. In the case of the GR Corolla above, they couldn’t just wait one more day before the reveal? Just one more?!

Anyways, what’s your opinion on leaks in general? Do you think it’s a big enough topic to warrant a new thread?

lol, maybe spoiler tag next time. :D:p

So that will be 3:30 tomorrow AM hey, I will tag you in.

AIl fully agree with the "leak" 24hrs before every launch.

I am not a fan of leaks in general, I would like to see the unveiling "live" then time later embargoed drives & reviews.

WRT a dedicated thread that is up to you, not sure if there is so much to add new-thread wise.

Toyota GR Corolla Fully Leaked And It’s Coming With 296 HP (220 kW)

There will be a GR Corolla Launch Edition.

The highly-anticipated Toyota GR Corolla will officially be unveiled tomorrow but one of the cyber sleuths on the GRCorollaForum has discovered the official landing page on the Toyota USA website.

Under the hood, you will find the same 1.6-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder found in the GR Yaris but it has been tweaked a bit for the slightly larger car. Since the information was found on the Toyota USA website, we can assume that 300 horsepower means 300 PS which equates to 296 hp (220 kW). Torque is listed at 273 lb-ft which is 370 Nm.

The Corolla takes the Yaris’ aggressive styling cues one step further, with black extruded bonnet vents, mammoth front wheel arch gills, and what appear to be three exhaust tips, comprising the GR Yaris’ pair of outlets split by a central pipe.

Drive will be sent to all four corners via a six-speed manual transmission only, with no automatic available – at least at launch

New Toyota GR Corolla: 300bhp AWD hot hatch leaks before reveal

Toyota's highly strung Honda Civic Type R rival uses uprated version of GR Yaris's acclaimed powertrain

The new Toyota GR Corolla will be officially revealed overnight, but new details published early by Toyota US confirm it will use a heavily uprated version of the Toyota GR Yaris's powertrain.

The long-awaited entry to Toyota's expanding Gazoo Racing performance line-up has previously been shown wearing the division's trademark multicoloured camouflage and with its overall design mostly obscured from view, but these latest images show it completely unwrapped.

It features a much more aggressive body design in line with its performance billing, with an expansive front grille, new bonnet vents, a chunky rear spoiler, flared arches and triple-exit exhausts the most obvious differentiators over the standard Toyota Corolla. Performance alloy wheels and beefy brakes round out the visual overhaul, but unlike the hot Yaris it retains a pair of rear doors.

It uses the same powertrain as its Yaris sibling, but with power hiked up from 258bhp to 300bhp – making this more a rival to the Volkswagen Golf R than the Volkswagen Golf GTI – and torque has been boosted slightly, too, to 273lb ft.

Power is sent to both axles through a six-speed manual gearbox, as in the GR Yaris, with an IMT (intelligent manual transmission) function which essentially serves as a rev matching function for smoother downshifts. Meanwhile, torque vectoring functionality can vary power across the axles from 50/50 to 30/70 either way, to optimise traction in all conditions.

The Toyota GR Corolla Has Leaked

A staging page on Toyota's website revealed most of the details of the hot hatch

In just a few short hours, we’ll all be treated to the full, official reveal of the upcoming Toyota GR Corolla. Finally, our questions about horsepower, design, and drivetrain will all be answered. Will its fender flares live up to the standard set by the GR Yaris? Soon, we’ll know every— hang on, I’m getting word in my earpiece that all of this information leaked online this morning. Verdict: The GR Corolla sounds incredible.

A staging page on Toyota’s website, seemingly mistakenly made public, revealed all the specs (as well as a few photos) of the GR Corolla this morning. The page itself has since been taken down, but it’s archived in its entirety here. It states that the upcoming GR Corolla will make an even 300 horsepower, paired with 273 lb-ft of torque, all of which will make it to the wheels through Toyota’s GR-FOUR all-wheel-drive system. The page even included a video of the GR Corolla’s exhaust note, which is pretty good.

The car retains the general hatchback shape of the basic Corolla but gains the rally-inspired widebody that Toyota had previously teased. The front fenders have the same basic shape as the GR86, and the rears have a Supra quality to them. There’s no mistaking the parentage of this hot hatch.

The GR-FOUR system defaults to a 50/50 front-rear power split, though it can put up to 70 percent of power to the rear when needed. Toyota claims a “circuit-tuned suspension,” which sounds more roadgoing than rally, and Torsen limited-slip differentials front and rear on Launch Edition cars

I Find The Toyota GR Corolla Funny For One Reason

Subaru picked an intriguing time to stop selling the STI

I’ve been a fan of small, sporty Toyotas ever since my buddy told me about riding around California as a kid in his dad’s 1980s FX16, a twin-cam hot hatch the world wasn’t ready for at the time. So I’m not mad that there’s a new 300-horsepower Toyota GR Corolla hot hatchback, I just find one coincidence funny.

It all started this morning when we first saw the leaked photos and specs of the car. The Jalopnik staff took one look at this boosted, AWD hatchback and... indeed, Toyota made what is basically a 2008 Subaru STI, also a 300-HP AWD rally-replica hatchback.

Jalopnik is so old that we were on the ‘08 STI press trip, and summarized it thusly:

Why you should buy this car:

You’re a fast driver looking for a car you can wring the last drop of performance from, rewarding your mad skills. You want to be a fast driver and improve your not-yet-mad skills in a truly capable, but friendly car. You want to embarrass owners of fine, exotic automobiles. You have no shame.

There’s nothing in that description that wouldn’t say the same about the new GR Corolla.

The two cars even both have tall fender vents behind the front wheels. This in and of itself is not all that humorous. After all, making a 300-HP hot hatchback is not endemic to Subaru. There are plenty of VWs and Fords that have been doing the exact same job for years, with AWD and not, looking all about the same, going about as fast, costing as much, on and on.

Toyota GR Corolla

It's official: The powerful, stylish and agile hot hatch U.S. drivers are looking for is on its way, the first-ever 2023 GR Corolla. With the detail-obsessed TOYOTA GAZOO Racing team at the helm, and master driver Akio Toyoda, a.k.a. Morizo, signing off on approval, this all-new addition to Toyota's growing lineup of sports cars brings the performance, handling and functionality that hot hatch fans love.

Powered by the lightweight, compact-yet-powerful G16E-GTS turbo-charged, direct/port injected three-cylinder engine, GR Corolla delivers 300 hp and 273 lb.-ft. of torque. Engineered for snappy acceleration out of the corners, output hits peak torque at 3000-5500 rpm, with max horsepower coming at 6500 rpm. Its thrill-inducing power is piped through a unique triple exhaust that's designed to reduce backpressure for maximum power delivery.

The G16-E engine is paired with Toyota's rally developed GR-Four All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) drivetrain. This system gives drivers a choice of 60-40, 50-50 or 30-70 power distribution to the front and rear wheels. GR Corolla will be offered exclusively in a manual transmission, staying true to its hands-on rally racing roots.

Its broad hatch profile and low center of gravity are built on Toyota's GA-C platform, with enhanced frame reinforcements developed specifically for GR Corolla at GR Factory at Toyota Motomachi plant. Functional exterior air vents and aerodynamic features further support steering stability.

GR Corolla will come in two grades, Core and Circuit Edition.

New 2022 Toyota GR Corolla is 300bhp AWD VW Golf R rival

Gazoo Racing turns the Toyota Corolla into a rally-inspired hot hatch - but it won't come to the UK

Toyota is going after the Honda Civic Type R and Volkswagen Golf R with a new entry to the fearsome hot hatchback segment: the long-awaited GR Corolla.

The hot new take on the Toyota Corolla joins a quickly expanding line-up of hot Toyotas developed by the Gazoo Racing performance division, alongside the Toyota GR Yaris, Toyota GR Supra and Toyota GR 86 – but unlike those cars, it isn't destined for sale in Europe.

The latest entry to the ranks uses a single-scroll turbocharged 1.6-litre three-pot engine familiar from the acclaimed GR Yaris but with power hiked up substantially to 300bhp and torque boosted slightly to 273lb ft.

The hikes come courtesy of a triple-exit exhaust, which reduces back pressure and improves exhaust flow, a new "multi-oil jet piston" cooling system, larger exhaust valves and a part-machined intake port.

Power is sent to both axles through a six-speed manual gearbox, as in the GR Yaris, with an intelligent manual transmission (IMT) function, which essentially serves as a rev-matching function for smoother downshifts.

The top-rung Circuit Edition car is also equipped with a pair of Torsen differentials for improved grip and cornering response.

Toyota finally unveils GR Corolla

Toyota has finally whipped the covers off its long-awaited GR Corolla, which combines the GR Yaris’ thumping powertrain with a five-door body and model-specific Torsen limited-slip diffs (as part of the GR-Four AWD system). It also has a valve-equipped triple-ended exhaust system!

Ostensibly a rival to the Volkswagen Golf 8 R, the Toyota GR Corolla is powered by a strengthened version of homologation special GR Yaris engine with cog-swapping duties handled by a close-ratio 6-speed manual gearbox with rev-matching functionality. Toyota says the GR Corolla’s turbocharged three-cylinder G16E-GTS engine, which displaces just 1.6 litres, develops 224 kW at 6 500 rpm and 370 Nm of torque between 3 000 and 5 500 rpm.

The GR Corolla is the nameplate’s first sporting model in nearly two decades and the latest of several GR models from the Aichi-based brand. It follows in the tracks of the GR Supra, GR Yaris and the GR 86 (expected here in Q3 2022).

It features several variant-specific performance attributes including widened front and rear fenders, to accommodate the car’s widened track, a unique front bumper design, which channels more air to the model’s vital parts, and an electronic multi-plate clutch all-wheel-drive system capable of quickly shuffling drive between the front and rear axles.
