The lightest and most powerful series-production McLaren, the new V8-engined, rear-wheel drive McLaren 750S - which is available in coupe and convertible form - is unashamedly a supercar for the purist. Designed and engineered following meticulous analysis of the renowned McLaren 720S, the new 750S combines advances in weight-saving, powertrain performance, aerodynamics and dynamic excellence to elevate a benchmark driving experience to new heights. Around 30 per cent of 750S components are either new or changed in order to deliver these improvements and with them an even greater emotional connection to the car.

With all available carbon fibre and lightweight options selected, the coupe weighs 1,277kg in dry lightest form, which delivers a segment-leading power-to-weight ratio of 587PS-per-tonne. This is a remarkable 193kg lighter than its closest competitor and delivers a power-to-weight advantage of 22PS.

The new McLaren 750S is the thoroughly updated and enhanced replacement for the 720S, Woking's best-selling car.

Subtly restyled but said to be 30% new under the skin, the 750S – once again available in hard-top and Spider guises – has been designed to provide "a new benchmark" in the supercar segment, boosting not just usability over its predecessor, but also ramping up the fun factor.

As the name suggests, it brings a power bump over the 720S, to 750PS (740bhp), which, in conjunction with a weight saving of 30kg to bring it down to 1277kg dry, gives a "segment-leading" power-to-weight ratio of 579bhp per tonne. Its closest rival, the Ferrari 296 GTB plug-in hybrid, claims a ratio of 552bhp per tonne.

The 750S is the lightest series-production McLaren road car yet, tipping the scales at just 79kg more than the track-honed Senna hypercar, without fluids.

Weight-shaving measures extend to new carbon fibre-shelled alloys saving 13.8kg, 17.5kg lighter carbon-shelled race seats and even a trimmed instrument cluster which contributes a 1.6kg saving.

It's new, honest: new 740bhp McLaren supercar adds power and pointiness

Although McLaren says ‘meticulous analysis’ was done to improve the 720S, a sense of impishness has entered the previously rather uptight Woking lexicon. While the numbers never lie and the 750S’s 579bhp-per-tonne power-to-weight ratio is class-leading, the new car is definitely more… punk rock. Sharper, sonically enhanced, and more interactive, think of it as more accessible and less intimidating than the knife-edge 765LT. The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 now makes 740bhp and 590 torques, and it rockets to 62mph in 2.8 seconds and 124mph in 7.2. Sure, the 720 was hardly deficient in that department, but a whole load of fine-tuning has gone on to liberate a bit more soul.

We know what you’re thinking, though. Did McLaren’s design team nip down the pub while their colleagues in engineering did all the heavy lifting? The 750S is different, honest. McLaren says 30 per cent of its components are new or changed, although its body design will inevitably underwhelm the noisier parts of the internet. Its nose is lower and smoother, there’s a longer front splitter, the intakes that house the headlights are narrower (and still called ‘eye sockets’, more’s the pity), and there are new sill air intakes and rear wheelarch vents.

But the biggest visual alterations are at the back: an undulating mesh cover spans a reprofiled rear deck and funnels air towards a longer rear wing. That’s positioned above a new central-exit exhaust tuned for greater efficiency and more audible sonic kicks. The wing’s surface area is 20 per cent greater than the one on the 720S, but it weighs 1.6kg less because it’s made of carbon fibre. It deploys in three ways: push the ‘aero’ button and you get more downforce in corners depending on how fast you’re going, there’s a DRS function for low drag high speed runs, and high speed braking sees the wing pop up in less than half a second for maximum retardation.

McLaren 750S Coupé and Spider Revealed Packing 740 HP (552 kW)

McLaren has taken the covers off the ‘successor’ to the 720S and as the title states has been called the 750S.

We say ‘successor’ because it’s actually a facelift of sorts with some enhancements and refinements over the 720S.

Under the very familiar-looking body sits the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 but it now pushes out 740 hp (552 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft). This is sent to the rear wheels via an updated seven-speed sequential gearbox with a shorter final drive ratio allowing the supercar to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 2.8 seconds.

The new supercar has a 6mm wider front track as well as new suspension geometry and their new Proactive Chassis Control III. It also benefits from an upgraded lifting system which can lift the nose of the car in 4 seconds as opposed to the 10 seconds it took the 720S.

So what design (styling) changes have taken place? They are very subtle but do make a fair bit of difference.

Up front there is a new bumper that sends the air into the redesigned and narrower eye sockets that house the LED lighting and a path to the low-temperature radiators. A new extended front splitter provides aerodynamic balance, working in connection with the 20-percent larger active rear wing.

McLaren Automotive announced that the Spectrum Theme - a stunning new multi-tone paint finish developed and applied by world-class paint technicians at McLaren Special Operations (MSO), McLaren's in-house bespoke personalisation service - will be offered exclusively on the new 750S, McLaren's lightest and most powerful series-production supercar.

Perfecting the Spectrum Theme required the development of new techniques that introduce a new-generation of McLaren paint specialism, offering customers something truly unique and ground-breaking.

More technical than anything MSO has developed before, Spectrum Theme shares its philosophy with the far-reaching technical changes introduced on 750S. Separate shades of colour create a tonal shift defined by precision craftsmanship; to the naked eye, the close bunching of colours produces an illusion of light to dark within each individual stripe which in turn gives a sense of speed and acceleration, even when the 750S is stationary.

Spectrum is presented in three variants - Spectrum Blue, Spectrum Grey and Spectrum Orange - with the colourways able to be combined with further MSO bespoke personalisation, including vibrantly coloured leather trim, a bespoke dedication plaque and extended visual carbon fibre door sills that feature hand-painted Spectrum graded effect MSO logos.

McLaren Automotive has revealed its most ambitious and exacting bespoke livery ever - the astonishingly complex 3-7-59 Theme. Realised by the expert paint technicians at McLaren Special Operations (MSO), the Theme was showcased on a very special McLaren 750S supercar unveiled by McLaren F1 driver, Lando Norris, McLaren IndyCar driver Pato O'Ward, and former McLaren F1 driver Derek Bell, who twice competed at 24 Hours of Le Mans in a McLaren F1 GTR. The trio of drivers were joined by Michael McDonagh, Director of MSO and Motorsport at McLaren Automotive.

Publicly revealed at luxury motorsports festival, Velocity International, taking place at Sonoma Raceway, USA, the 3-7-59 is a stunning tribute to McLaren's unique success in winning motorsport's unofficial 'Triple Crown' of victories at the Indianapolis 500, the Monaco Grand Prix and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Its reveal stands out as one of the most memorable moments in a year of celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of McLaren being founded, in 1963.

Requiring more than 1200 hours to paint, six customer cars wearing unique variations of the 3-7-59 Theme will be created, all either a 750S coupe or Spider, and all already sold.

McLaren releases special edition 750S as tribute to 'Triple Crown'

Woking's most intricately detailed livery is coming to six cars - all of which are sold

Formula 1 driver Lando Norris whipped the covers off the firm’s most exacting bespoke livery yet in order to celebrate its ‘Triple Crown’ motorsport success.

The intricately detailed paint on the McLaren 750S commemorates McLaren winning the Monaco Grand Prix, 24 Hours of Le Mans and Indianapolis 500 and is part of wider celebrations of the company’s 60th birthday.

IndyCar driver Pato O’Ward and Le Mans winner Derek Bell joined Norris at a motorsports festival called Velocity International, in California, to reveal the 750S supercar. Five more cars, which will be either coupe or Spider, will have the ‘3-7-’59’ livery. All six have already been sold.

The three in the name represents the number of the 1974 Indy 500 winner, the seven is the company’s maiden Monaco Grand Prix win in 1984 and the 59 belongs to 1995’s 24 Hours of Le Mans winning McLaren F1 GTR.

The flowing artwork takes more than 1200 hours to paint and combines 20 different colours. The work is carried out by paint technicians at McLaren Special Operations (MSO).

Inspiration for the colours comes from the race winning cars. The white and red livery of the McLaren MP4/2, with that car’s ‘7’ race number is worn on the bonnet.

Both sides of the 3-7-59 theme are a homage to the McLaren F1 GTR, with its grey colour scheme and ‘59’ race number.

McLaren pays homage to Triple Crown success with special edition 750S

Inspired by legendary vehicles like the MP4/2, just six will ever be built

McLaren has revealed a striking new 750S special project that acts as an ode to its achievement of winning the fabled ‘Triple Crown’ of motorsports. Just six examples will be made altogether in both coupe and spider form, and each will feature slight variations of the commemorative theme. Spoiler alert: they’ve all been sold already.

The unique ‘3-7-59’ paint scheme represents a stunning collision of the liveries worn by the three respective cars in question: the number ‘three’ M16D at the 1974 Indy 500; the number ‘four’ MP4/2 at the 1984 Monaco Grand Prix; and the number ‘59’ F1 GTR at Le Mans in 1995.

The flowing multicoloured paintwork has been grafted by McLaren’s Special Operations (MSO) team. It has taken over 1,200 hours to complete and merges over 20 different colours and compositions. For some perspective, that’s the same as working day and night for 50 days straight. The livery itself is a detailed collage of both the cars and the races, and drew inspiration from previous one-off commissions by the MSO team.

The front section of the car mimics Alain Prost’s Monaco Grand Prix-winning MP4/2. Sporting a red and white paint combination, the 750S features a ‘shattered’ imitation of the legendary V12 F1 car’s look.
