Hey everyone

If you had 20K to spend on a laptop, what would be your choice and why? Also, do you think the MacBooks are really better than a normal Windows laptop?

I am looking to buy a new laptop and are looking for some recommendations in this price range.

Lenovo Y510p with dual SLI graphics and SSD or the Acer V5 with touch screen or ASUS Transformer Book 13.3-Inch Touchscreen Laptop with 128gb ssd and 500gb hdd - it is a detachable tablet

Only reason I would get a Mac over a Windows laptop is because of Windows. My personal preference, just really don't like Windows.

Do you currently use a mac or some a flavour of linux?

If i had 20K i wouldn't mind an Alienware laptop. Those things look damn cool!

My current desktop at work and home is Linux, but I'm getting a Macbook tomorrow as I want a OSX machine too. Plenty of Windows machines at the office.

One of the advantages of a MacBook / MacBook Pro, is that you are able to install Windows & or Linux, then boot up into either operating system.
I use a MacBook Pro that has Windows installed (from time to time I need or prefer to use a windows application).

Go try a MacBook Pro at an iStore

I bought the MSI GT70 Dragon Edition for R21k (including vat).

It is an absolutely insane laptop, do yourself a favour :)

They do look cool, but also look like they need to be transported on wheels tho

They are heavy. I got the M17X R4 3D a few weeks back. Took a while to get used to the weight. Lugging it around was also a mission - but I'm stronger now :D

Over the size and weight now (almost). Developed an emotional attachment to this sexy beast.

For ~R20k I'll take the Toshiba X75 A7295 Qosmio, unless I could get the MSI GT70 Dragon Edition for the same price :)

If you're not really a gamer, then there are other laptops with workstation graphics cards that may be better suited if you're into graphics designing/modelling.

Newegg.com has absolutely the best specs search that I have seen anywhere for laptops. The search criteria and filters are extensive, and I use that whenever I have to buy a laptop for anyone at the office

Without a doubt a 14" Razer blade closely followed by a Acer Aspire S7 (the new one). They're both really small and pretty laptops, although the blade is a lot more powerful.

Lots of good suggestions but OP still hasn't said what and how the laptop will be used, this information is kind of important to know when selecting a laptop.
