Waiting for fibre to go live in our area.
In our household we have 3 three pc's and 4 mobile devices.

2 pc's is mostly for gaming together while the third is a HTPC for netflix and the works...

Sometimes the wife watches Netflix while daughter is on Youtube and me and my son is gaming together.

Will 20/2 be enough for this? And will 20/20 help cause we don't do that much of uploading?

Iirc, 1080p streaming needs about 5Mbps, so this should work fine for you, I'd think, provided you aren't streaming in a higher resolution (4K needs around 5 times that).

You don't do much uploading that you intentionally started and are aware of.. things like Google photos and WhatsApp for example, by default, will start uploading backups.. your gaming will quickly suffer the moment one of these are backing up and someone else decides to send a video to a friend via WhatsApp or upload photos to Facebook at the same time..

I have no issues whatsoever when these various apps do their thing, and you can manage the upload speed with most of them if necessary, or adjust the timing. If an application is ****ing up your ability to game without your permission, it's probably not something you should have installed.

*edit*

I've just seen it read 20/2, in which case I'd say go for the 20/20 if that was not a typo...

20/20 would be good enough for HD content

25 and above is recommended for 4K according to Netflix

I'd say 5mb is the bare minimum upload required for the average person.

You can stream in 4K on Netflix at about 15mbps. YT you will get around 1440 generally.

I was also thinking of going 20/20...the 20/2 was not a typo.

Was thinking because we dont do that much of uploading, the 20mb upload wasnt necessary.

Wife watches Netflix in 720p...she not much fazed with higher resolution.

So then the 20/20 will be enough?

They usually allow you to upgrade pretty easily/for free, so just start there and test it out.

You would be surprised at how much you can get away with. hehehe. 20/20 wll be fine. even 10/10. i got depressed when a 10gb update would pop up when i wanted to game. Sigh... there goes gaming for the day.

yea, 20MB line will be fine. I have clients running on it and strangely enough say it's enough for what they need for UHD. Clients that want the wow 4K resolution pop in another R125 and walla 25MB down is all yours *Insert evil laugh here* So yea 20MB should be plenty.

For our lower accounts get 3MB up while the bigger accounts sit on 6MB for their upload. We do have boosters that at least up those speeds and are rather flexible towards clients that need a 24/7 higher upload at least. Before I get my head chewed off (Wireless connections)

So if it happens that my daughter watches youtube, netflix is running ,wife is busy on fb and me and the son is playing games online...will all of the 20mb be used or wil ther be some bandwith left...meaning will someone be lagging if the above happens?

There will be left.
2x720p youtube streams & facebook playing video uses ~7.5Mb/s

All the vague talk and generalisation when all you have to do read up and understand the significance of window size and bandwidth-delay product.
Then all this surmising and guessing vanishes and everything become predictable.

I have an Openserve 20/20 line and not happy at all. Even with just occasional streaming, I get some buffering. The line also slows down considerably on weekends and early evenings. Considering upgrading to a 100/20 line.

If the line is slowing down something might be wrong and upgrading to a higher speed will likely not resolve the issue.
