21MB Modem flipping between HSPA+ (91-99%) and EDGE (0%)

Hi all,

As posted on the Speedtest thread my new 21MB modem is giving serious issues. During the day it seems to start with HSPA+ (very good signal) and then suddenly just drop to EDGE with no bars. This appears to be random (sitting in the same spot). You have to then disconnect, reconnect etc repeatedly until you get back to HSPA+. And at some point the process just repeats itself. This makes it basically unusable. It wasn't happening at night though.

What could be causing it?

i heard the same advice from a vodacon staff member, so I guess it can't hurt trying.

How do i go about forcing the modem to 3 G only. I go to settings then network -network type is set on WCDMA preferred and Band to All bands. It does not allow me to change these settings.
