I've been reading the forums and this and that about the different monitors and had almost decided on the samsung 22" 226BW(yes and whatever panel it might be) and saw a 22'' HP W2207 at incredible corruption and thought it looked really nice.
How do you guys rate the two of them against each other.
Any opinions appreciated.

The Hp is a decent monitor and a quick google around the web states the following: PcWorld

"What's Hot
Exceptional colour reproduction, Can be viewed in portrait mode, Built-in USB hub

What's Not
Noticeable purple fringing on text, Some noise in dark-grey colours, Screen is too reflective

The Final Word
The only problem with this monitor is its reflective screen, which can be a bit of a nuisance in a well-lit environment. Apart from that, its colours and luminance were exceptional in all our tests. It's well-suited to viewing and editing photos, as well as movie-watching and game-playing."

I really dont like the high gloss when sitting a well lit room it distracts me. I have the Samsung and if you read through the threads I am more than happy with it for gaming, designing, browsing the web ect and if you could find the all alusive "S" panel I can highly recommend it to you.

I've got the LG 22". I compared it with the Samsung. It has better colour reproduction than the Samsung.

Its really difficult. And the issue is the "s" panel debate. If you can get one than ok.But i went today to Incredible and they had the 2 set up next to each other and although the gloss might be an issue in very well lit areas for me it really did look quite a bit better than the samsung.

But yes it would depend on what panel it was and how it was set up.
Its a real headache!

well, where are you going to set it up? If it's by a window, get the samsung. If not, the HP. easy as that.

Fair enough. It would be in a "darkish" area. There are tons of reviews on the samsung but relatively few on the hp.I know their specs are very similar in most regards.....maybe a lotto...or maybe both:D *dreams*

when it comes to monitors i think i will always stick to samsung. there is a sense of quality behind it. I dont think there is anything wrong with HP... LG, good enough for word processing but thats about it. Not to sure about high end LG's

I got a 22" Acer, pretty good, pretty cheap. Happy with it, dunno abt the other brands, tho if u considering the Acer for its price, take it :P

i've seen the HP screen. very nice. I'd go for that, as my monitor is also in a darkish area.

i agree with you on the front that "samsung" make good monitors and probably the best 22" lcd and if i could guarantee that it was the case then yes. Im sure the panel issue might be an overstated issue but it is still a consideration for me.From the few reviews it seems that the hp performs on the same level(except for 2ms vs.5ms) as the "s" panel samsung.I know all my previous monitors have all been samsungs and i've never had any issues.

What is interesting is the HP can rotate the screen to portrait? Pretty interesting. Don't know if you would ever use it though.

Dude, don't worry about 5ms vs 2ms. You won't see the difference. In fact, the overdrive technology used to achieve those fast response times degrades the color trueness of the monitor.

sapphiron.. u got the LG226wtq right? where did u get it from??? i have been struggling to find that anywhere in sa... none of the people on the net who list the monitor have stock and dont know when they r getting either...

I got one of the first that landed at Frontosa back in April. Eta on new ones are about 2 more weeks last time I checked.

I compared it to the Samsung and the Acer. The acer simply cant be compared with the LG and the Samsung does not quite have the colour reproduction of the LG.

The HP is a interesting option. the glossy coating is really superior to the matt finish when you don't have windows or lights behind it.

aaa...ok, ic.. lucky you.. I dont know if its now worth waiting for another 2/3 weeks to get the LG, or just wait another 2/3 months until the updated monitor is released with much better colour display and resulotion...
