22" powered with a 7900gt?

Depends if you going to max the games out in detail or not and the game it self...
Older games mabey... newer games not too sure
IMHO... If you not going to get a 8800GTS/GTX I would stick with the 19" and play it safe at 1280x1024 then be disapointed at the poor performance at higher resolutions "1680x1050"

Go for a 22". So much nicer for browsing and work as well. I have a 7800GTX (should be about the same as your 7900GT stock) and it can run games like prey/wow/fear/doom3/quake4/cnc3 at their max settings smoothly.
Rather get a 22" and upgrade your gfx card next time around.

nope i read wrong thought u where asking if 7900gt would be able to run a 22" lcd

have u had a look at the samsung MRE, not much more hey and much better
why not just try your card out if it does not run them just get 8800gts 320 meg

Well the whole point is that I can't just get a 8800, I can spend a couple hundred more to get the 22", bt not like R2500 for a new card, ..that's why I'm asking.
The Samsung is R200 more, to me it's still a saving as the AOC panel has gotten good reviews too.

WELL MRE your card will run games as that res no doubt, just wont run them on full settings, but if someone can run the games well 7800gtx i dont see you should many problems

i agree. i mean why do u even need a 22", unless ur into some serious pron
i have a 8800GTS with a 19" LCD and it runs fine at 1440 (default resolution), but when u gonna switch to higher resolutions like 1680x1050, that's when ur performance will suffer. the higher the resolution, the bigger the size of the graphics card needs to be(in terms of megabytes) else performance will suffer. then there's the speed of the card and so forth as well to take into consideration. i was faced with the same decision just a month ago and i decided to go for the LG L194WT widescreen LCD. trust me, u can see everything on a 19". there's no need for a 22". having a 22" is just showing off. but it's ur choice.

i have the 22BW samsung and a 7900GT (standard clock). below are some game settings i experienced at native resolution running well (good consistant FPS).
Battlefield 2142: 1680X1050 maxxed settings
Stalker: 1680X1050 med/high to max
Quakewars: 1680X1050 medium
Unreal tournamt 3 demo: 1680X1050 low to medium.
so yes, it should run OK with most games. but dont expect max settings on the newer games.
i sold my 19" for a 22"... even though i declined in performance, im still happy. and sometimes running out of native resolution still looks good, just maintain the aspect ratio...
SO YES, 22inch ftw... my 19" looks tiny now. even on lower settings, but native res, the overall look is more "epic"

I got the 22" for the extra bit of resolution over the 19" LCDs. (total res, not dpi). That said, someone with a 19" is going to be happy with it until they get used to a 22". I have a 22" so those guys with 24" are just showing off as well...
I use photoshop quite a bit and having gone from a 17" crt to a 22" lcd it is absolutely awesome. First of all if you're working concentrating on the screen for hours at a time I'd say you need an LCD. And then the widescreeniness and decent res is just awesome in photoshop because you have space to put all the tool tabs etc etc.
Graphics it's great. but not perfect. colour accuracy on an LCD isnt that good, unless its' an expensive one, meant for design.
but if i had to chose, 19" CRT or 22" LCD for design, im going 22 the workspace is great! small toolbars, large workspace.
im 4 hours a day on coreldraw
1 hour in photoshop
2 hours in MAX
1 hour in ms office
and 4 hours when i get home on xbox & pc... all on 22 inch's...

To answer why bigger: Not bragging rights or showing off, FFS that's jst stupid, you can see everything on a 14" monitor so why not buy one of those!? No offence but that is jst bullsh!t logic/reasoning.

yes i agree u can turn down the resolution of the games, but it performs better when u run it at it's native resolution. and i mean come on, it's 3 inches for goodness sakes. yes u can watch ur movies on a big screen but it won't play as clearly as on a 19" or 17". u will see squares when watching tv eps or movies(avi's or mpg's), trust me i quite clearly noticed this when i upgraded from 17" crt to 19" LCD. a big screen is nice, but u need to consider all the other factors...ie: big square pixels when watching movies and game performance.
